@Pavlov it was pretty good. Sad thing. I need to figure out what drugs he did in what order. Cause for almost 70. His voice sounds the same as when he recorded Alice's Restaurant and he looks pretty damn good.
@sohmageek He was here in concert a few weeks ago as a part of a (very well [overly]funded) local community college's performing arts series - we had tickets as a benefactor of their series (through my company), however I wasn't feeling well that evening so the Mrs. went with a friend - she said it was incredible.
my local radio station still plays it at noon... right when the parade ends on the TV. Yeah, I know, iTunes and Youtube can get it done... but tradition, ya know?
@andipandi Our local stations play it at noon also - I posted it here for those that may have never heard it before, and for those that will see it over the weekend (and next week) and may have missed it on Thanksgiving!
A guy I know was valedictorian or something in 1968 and won a DAR scholarship he had not applied for. The local DAR, average age prob close to 100 for that particular chapter, invited him to speak. He performed this song for his speech.
I don't think they found his performance appropriate, but some of them grinned, and all of them were most warm and gracious.
@Trillian Thanks to our local PBS, my wife got to hear last night the original of what I have been doing parts of for years. I love that they combined shots from the movie behind Arlo as he was singing.
When I was a kid, my buddy and I had it on cassette and copied down every word on paper, rewinding and replaying every few seconds. Took forever. Memorized the whole thing. Good times.
Listened to it on my drive today. In my Spotify searching, I found there is also a "revisited" version with a somewhat hilarious followup at the end regarding Richard Nixon and recordings that are 18 minutes long.... made me laugh.
Flashback! I remember the alternative radio djs played this when they needed to hit the bathroom and grab a bite.
Happy Thanksgiving!
@KDemo This is an 18 minute 34 second Thanksgiving tradition in my, and many a household.
@Pavlov did you see my response to the best part of thanksgiving? ;)
@sohmageek I did, I did!
@Pavlov did you see the special???
@sohmageek I did not, I did not! :-P

PBS is airing the Alice's Restaurant 50th Anniversary Concert tonight.
