I picked one up, but instead of counting to xmas I’m counting days of work till I get some time off, since I will abstain on the weekends I’m already 7 in.
I had self control and sent the aldi Belgian chocolate advent calendar to my niece.
I wanted to get a cheese advent calendar for my sister but the sold out too quickly. Of course I see them on ebay for inflated prices. I hope they choke on it.
I did get the cats their own calendar. So far, they approve.
@ironcheftoni I really wish we had aldi or primark. When I lived England I was introduced and fell in love. I get jealous when I hear others talk about them. We need them in the PNW!
Here the various Aldi stores didn’t get most of their calendars on November 3rd like they were supposed to, except for the beer, wine, and dog/cat ones. But they trickled in over the course of the month, and as in the past the likely scarcity had me buying multiples. We shipped some of the deluxe ‘stand up’ ones to relatives who are sadly sans Aldi stores.
Some of my coworkers got the deluxe calendars and their kids and grandkids all got the little chocolate ones this year, except for the weird one who doesn’t like chocolate so they had to find something different for them.
Wine calendars sold out same day as usual but two stores still had beer calendars this past weekend. The Disney and Marvel storybook calendars are also still at the store where last year (and prior) they sold out in the first few of days.
I think enough other stores jumped on the advent calendars of everything bandwagon so Aldi no longer has quite the pull they did before.
I also just picked up the twelve days of Christmas Irish Cream “calendar”, which will help deal with the meh days after Christmas.
I’m still going to line up on calendar day next year
@duodec@mikibell i have a friend that builds their own advent calendars. Her husband makes hers and she makes his so they won’t know what they get. One year they did liquor shots using they airplane size bottles
@ironcheftoni that is awesome… hubby doesn’t drink, so I am outa luck there!!! I did have the coffee advent calendar last year, and he was feeling left out, so I made him one with condiment containers full of hershey’s chocolates, and such
@ironcheftoni@mikibell Williams Sonoma has a popcorn advent calendar. I would like one but they went for $54. Half price right now but not available here. Even at half price seems like a lot for popcorn.
@mikibell@sammydog01@ironsheftoni Last week a set of “Elf” and “A Christmas Story” advent calendars were released at Aldi. A bit pricey but one of the people at the office is a major fan of Christmas Story and had me buy one for him for work. Its got little figurines in it; Ralphy in his winter overcoats and scarves, Mom, and a Bupkus dog have made an appearance so far. It isn’t numbered so you just pick a random door each day.
I got my wife The Office mini pop figurine advent calender. No advent calendar for me, I told myself last year if I couldn’t keep up with opening the days then I needed to take the next year off.
@mikibell - She had a hard time recognizing the first day’s character. I figured it out and I thought I didn’t know the show that well. Spoiler it was Michael from one of the Christmas episodes. The figures are the perfect size to scatter about among desk tchotchkes.
I started my Aldi Belgian Chocolate advent calendar already!!! Have about 10 days left
@tinamarie1974 Belgian Chocolate! What an evil Advent Calendar! A true test of willpower.
I couldn’t pass the challenge!
@lonocat I MAY have cheated the first day. I think I had two or three pieces. I have been very good since then, only one piece per day!
According to my chocolate advent calendar, Christmas is tomorrow. Yay!
@heartny
So @lonocat isn’t the only one with no self-control!

@ironcheftoni Awwwww, nice!
@ironcheftoni Just don’t buy them all up and then try to resell them like this person
@ironcheftoni I really wish we had aldi or primark. When I lived England I was introduced and fell in love.
I get jealous when I hear others talk about them. We need them in the PNW!
@mbersiam I just wanted one and I see them on ebay now for up to $99. I think they were less than $20 at aldi
@ironcheftoni @sillyheathen
We need them here in CO as well!

@duodec I tried to find the irish cream calendar last year and the guy at our aldi’s looked at me like I had 10 heads or something… sigh…

I got the cheese calendar last year. Quite yummy
Day 1 of my Bonne Maman jam calendar and my Funko Five Nights at Freddy’s calendar:

Day 2:

Did THIS one for the SIL. He seemed pleased when we gave it to him over Thanksgiving.

I got my wife The Office mini pop figurine advent calender. No advent calendar for me, I told myself last year if I couldn’t keep up with opening the days then I needed to take the next year off.
@UpbeatDuck I got the same for the daughter’s boyfriend… no feedback on it from him yet. Does your wife like it?

I’m a little sad they went for quality ones this year instead of the usual crap.
They keep talking about yuzu on the Great British Baking Show and I don’t think I’ve tried it before. It’s pretty good!

@sammydog01 Nice color match (well, kind of - yellow figure, yellow jam.)
@sammydog01 I LOVE yuzu! Well any citrus really. I debated on the maman calendar. I’m kind of kicking myself for not getting it!
@sammydog01
@sillyheathen - did you harvest the Buddha’s Hand?
@Kyeh @sammydog01 not yet! It’s still growing and has more blossoms and fruit.
This is our family advent. Each bag is filled with chocolate treats. The kids bring it up every thanksgiving dinner.
@sillyheathen Wow!
@Kyeh thanks! I made it years ago when I was prego with my youngest. They love it.
@sillyheathen Would you adopt me?
@sillyheathen I’ll bet they do! And I second @Barney’s request!
@Kyeh I’ve never had a sibling.
@Barney
That’s a mixed blessing, I’d say!
(Mine are pretty good but there are times …)
@Barney @Kyeh well if y’all ever head out to Oregon you’re more than welcome to hit me up!

@Barney @sillyheathen
Road trip!
@Barney @Kyeh yes!!!
@Barney @Kyeh

/giphy do it!!!
@Kyeh @sillyheathen Aw… I’ll never get to Oregon, but I thank you for the kind words.
@Barney @Kyeh well if you change your mind, you let me know!
Looking forward to this spread.
My wife got this crazy one full of bath stuff and candles.
@fibrs86 That one is beautiful!
@fibrs86 so pretty!!!
@fibrs86 @Kyeh I love that it lights up.
