As I’m getting older, I’m thinking of getting my name and address done on my arm.
@phendrick but what if you move???
@tinamarie1974 Can’t they edit these things?
If not, I guess I’ll just have to leave a forwarding address.
@phendrick I wonder how many stamps it would take to mail yourself home?
A long time ago I realized my index finger/hand makes a great ruler for approximations and I always have it handy!
Not my hand, just my poorly added ruler marks.
@callow Wait, you don’t always have your hand handy?
@callow Clever! I like it.
@blaineg Also, from nose to finger tip: The distance between your nose and your fingertip when your arm is extended is about a yard (36 inches). If you haven’t used this method yourself, ask your mother or grandmother: It’s the traditional way of measuring cloth.
@callow Yep, my wingspan is a bit over 6’, and I’ve use that for cable measurements for longer than I can remember.
I’ll bet my mom & grandmothers would come up short on their fabric measurements though, they were all a lot shorter than I am.
@blaineg Haha! And when buying fabric look for the tallest sales person!
I use the yard measurement for cutting pieces of plastic tubing to bag window treatments. Very convenient.
The temporary ruler, since it didn’t do a thumbnail.
I often thought about getting common motorcycle brand-specific wire colors tattooed on me for doing electrical work. Ground colors, common ignition system colors, and what-not. Controlled/uncontrolled hot, etc.
