@blaineg@ironcheftoni You need to speak to @shahnm about battery refrigeration. Of course if there is cold beer in the fridge then hopefully the AA meeting is not in the fridge. (snicker).
Many years ago extra batteries went in the freezer along with film (remember film cameras?), especially bulk film. But it’s the closet shelf for batteries these days.
I’m just trying to fan the flames of refrigeration. (Wait, what?)
The first time I saw a propane fridge at a remote cabin in MN. and was told I had to light a flame to make it get cold I totally thought they were pulling my leg.
@chienfou And then there are the 3 way fridges that many campers have - they cool using propane, 12V and 120V. I suppose you could use ice too as long as you had the ice frozen into bottles with lids or in zip locks.
Also when I worked in NW Ontario one winter everything was propane in the winter - light bulbs, stove, fridge but not the heat. It would would have been too expensive to heat with propane at those temperatures (eg generally 20-60 below F; -40 is about the same in C and F). For heat we burned wood in home made wood burning stoves made out of 2/3 of a 55 gallon drum. We had to thaw it first or it would put the fire out. The “chimney” pipe coming out of that was also a very good creosote still at any right angle bends that had a hole. We hada #10 cans hanging from a number of them to catch the drips (which helped, although not completely, prevent chimney fires). Oh the satellite phone ran off of a car battery, not propane.
@ThunderChicken … hmm… but did you wake up cold when they got to the part where you were supposed to chill out in the refrigerator to reduce stress and save energy?
Disclaimer… This is 2 AAs with plastic wrap that gives you a form factor that fits… It’s just a plastic shell. You can buy them for 50 cents. Do not buy this
@Kidsandliz@ThunderChicken@unksol I use 4 of the ‘C’ size adapters with rechargeable AAs in an old Sharper Image shower clock/radio/alarm.
Long since paid for themselves…
@compunaut@Kidsandliz@ThunderChicken I used 4 AAs with out adaptors in a baby swing… Multiple times lol. Springs were enough to hold them if you were careful putting them in
But yes cheap adaptors and willingness to swap cause no one wants to make c/d cells a few companies do but. AA is just easier
@compunaut@Kidsandliz@ThunderChicken for what it’s worth these were the ones I meant to get but they have been sitting in my cart for years and the whole need for c batteries stopped. So there may be better options
@blaineg@compunaut@Kidsandliz@ThunderChicken the mag light would have been my last use for D’s and the capacity was not needed once they introduced their led bulb. Someone stole it from my car well over a decade ago. C’s were baby swing and AAs did fine. But you know some people have some old devices
@blaineg@Kidsandliz@ThunderChicken@unksol
I’ve got a boombox device for a satellite radio receiver that takes 4 ‘D’ cells, but usually use it with wall wart adapter; almost never use it with batteries.
Unsure if it was in a refrigerator.
@blaineg so I’m not the only one that stores extra batteries in the fridge?
@blaineg @ironcheftoni You need to speak to @shahnm about battery refrigeration. Of course if there is cold beer in the fridge then hopefully the AA meeting is not in the fridge. (snicker).
@blaineg @ironcheftoni @Kidsandliz The fridge is definitely the place where the cool batteries chill out…
@blaineg @ironcheftoni @Kidsandliz Is it just me, or is anyone else “hearing” a British type accent in that gif?
@blaineg @ironcheftoni @Kidsandliz @shahnm Just you. I hear a criminal…errrr…I mean Australian accent.
@blaineg @ironcheftoni @Kidsandliz @shahnm @yakkoTDI
/google why is it bad to store batteries in the fridge
Should You Store Batteries in the Fridge?

@blaineg @ironcheftoni @Kidsandliz @RiotDemon @yakkoTDI Never bore me with science, infidel.

I sat in on an AA meeting for rechargeable batteries. They were discussing their 12-step program.
Feeling drained, I fell asleep after that.

@ThunderChicken

Poll: AA meeting or porn?

@mike808 I get this now (thanks to your explanation lo those several fortnights ago…)!
I’m just offended that the Cs and D’s and AAAs weren’t invited…
They have adaptors you know
@unksol Are you sure you didn’t mean “enablers?”
@ThunderChicken @unksol Don’t you C you really mean enAblers?
@Kidsandliz @ThunderChicken they have “adaptors” for everyone these days
Even enloop will make your AA look like a real D. Course you lose all the capacity

As far as D’s. You can do the same thing spacer wise or you can get three into a single D cell spacer. Something like this. Again dont own any but
options are out there
https://www.amazon.com/DSLRKIT-Parallel-Battery-Convertor-Adapter/dp/B00OUM17AQ
All that gets you is more capacity but still not what you would get out of a real D but since you can use all your AAs and they are rechargeable…
And of course some make actual c/d batteries but then you need a charger to fit. Depends on how many you need/use

@Kidsandliz @ThunderChicken @unksol
I really like those 3xAA ‘D’ size adapters, but I only have 1 use case for them
@compunaut @Kidsandliz @unksol I currently have no devices that use Ds, and I can’t even remember my last device that used Cs.
@compunaut @Kidsandliz @ThunderChicken @unksol I’ve got an LED Maglight and an LED candle that use D cells.
The candle runs forever.
