@Everbody - I don’t know about ten times, but a while back I got one of those universal chargers that recharge Ni-MH and Ni-CD batteries AND do a fair to middling job recharging (some) alkaline batteries up to usefulness.
Thanks to capitalism, which in the REAL world undermines hubris and punishes perfectionism, just the opposite of all the other systems that pretend to, but don’t. But films can be a lot of fun, I guess because of all that artistic hubris?
@w_a_w Because there’s only one common product left that still uses 9V batteries (smoke detector), and the new versions of them are ditching the 9Vs, so soon there will be none.
As someone who tests batteries and has never heard of this brand I can say with full confidence that I would never put them in anything I care about other than the freezer.
My interpretation is:
-Tweezak is concerned that the batteries in this deal might be of low quality, and might even damage their equipment. They feel confident that if the batteries were up to snuff, they would already have heard of the brand.
-The product write-up on Meh wants to assume all batteries are the same quality, so having these will be just the same as having a pack of Duracells.
-I’m not sure.
@superpope I assume you’re just being pedantic but in case you really are that dim I’ll clarify. When I say “put them in” something I’m speaking of trusting them as a reliable power source. When I talk about putting them in the freezer it’s an homage to the ongoing joke around here about storing batteries in the freezer.
On a serious note, if you are curious I do battery testing under load all the way from 80C down to -40C. So, no, not a strange way to test at all.
Hope that helps.
I have to wonder how long these languished in some warehouse before Meh got them, and what their claimed shelf life is. This is not the first time they’ve been here, so we might see feedback from prior purchasers at some point.
@UncleVinny@yakkoTDI “Here at the Better Battery Company, we do it right. Unlike those other battery companies that outsource battering you to overseas OEMs, we only use 100% American muscle.”
Why don’t you find and sell battery storage solutions for people who already HAVE batteries, RECHARGEABLE batteries, and could use a nice, compact way, to store both AA, AAA, D, and 9-volt… AND with storage for drained, but soon to be charged, batteries? Huh!?! HUH??!
Every time I’ve bought batteries from meh, they were absolute garbage where most didn’t have a charge or were leaking. So they ended up costing me more than duracell or whatever at retail would’ve. It’s a no from me, dog.
@PooltoyWolf the lucas ones were one of them that burned me. I cant remember the other brand but everready doesnt sound familiar. I think they were some kind of eco ones made from recycled batteries or something like that.
@gymgeek@PooltoyWolf There’s an old joke: “why do the British drink warm beer?”
And the answer is, because they use Lucas refrigerators. These are the people who brought you the electric systems on Jaguars…
Absolute garbage, all of the batteries coming out of that country. There’s a reason they are so cheap to buy. They were cheaply made and you shouldn’t trust them anywhere in your house.
Same goes for the rechargeable replacement packs for any cordless tool. I’ve been burned a couple of times, even when I thought I was buying OEM on Amazon.
@aciarlotta@gymgeek Your frustration needs to be directed at the individuals and companies only caring about their own bottom line, not the country of origin.
Quality and lack thereof is a global situation: my last pack of USA made Duracells all leaked at some point and yet, none of my imported Amazon Basics has, so
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@gymgeek But of course they’re old. Expired masks and expired food is enough evidence to me to stay away from something that will be useless if expired. At least the expired strawberry beet sawdust bars went into my compost bin.
@PooltoyWolf How many who buy these believe that there actually is a free recycling program rather than a return-and-they-dump-them-in-the-garbage program?
@ItalianScallion@PooltoyWolf IIANM, it’s only fraud if the company voluntarily continued to ship the merch with that claim present after losing access to, or cancelling the recycling arrangement. If the recycling entity refuses to continue to process them and/or goes under before the batteries come back, that’s not under the manufacturer’s control. (Several times in the past, we’ve had acres of baled plastic “recyclables” accumulate here for which no accepting stream could be found, even at a significant loss. Disposal can be problematic.)

No 6 volt storage? I’m out.
Can you say TRASH CAN due to leakage? Guess it’s better than diaper leakage!
@mcemanuel Nono you mean recycling bin, not trash can
AI, because the internet needs the big truck equivalent for tiny dicks.
Alkaline can be charged 10 times.

There’s no way I could use that many AAA batteries before they’re garbage.
I’ve never really contemplated the idea of renting batteries before.
Why are there such gratuitous amounts of both As and so few 9Vs?
This whole thing is perplexing.
@w_a_w as a data point I use plenty of AA and AAA but almost never 9v
@w_a_w Because there’s only one common product left that still uses 9V batteries (smoke detector), and the new versions of them are ditching the 9Vs, so soon there will be none.
And the garage door opener keypad.
@bx2a5z @dpease @w_a_w Cattle prods still use 9 volt batteries. I couldn’t imagine a night out without one.
@bx2a5z @w_a_w guitar pedals still use 9v. Most of mine have an a/c adapter option, but not all of them.
@bx2a5z @slagbot @w_a_w Digital non-contact surface thermometers often use them, as well as many volt-ohm meters.
@bx2a5z @w_a_w @yakkoTDI my Taser uses AAA so I’m good
@w_a_w digital multimeter usually use 9V? Not sure if that’s a common enough product.
I use tons of them as a robotics teacher for different circuits or soldering projects but that’s obviously not a common use.
@w_a_w my best quality wireless mics use 9V, but I’ve got newer ones that use AA and AAA so those 9V will simply be fossils
As someone who tests batteries and has never heard of this brand I can say with full confidence that I would never put them in anything I care about other than the freezer.
@tweezak weird way to test batteries you’ve never tested, but okay
My interpretation is:
-Tweezak is concerned that the batteries in this deal might be of low quality, and might even damage their equipment. They feel confident that if the batteries were up to snuff, they would already have heard of the brand.

@shahnm With plenty of room for 6 volt batteries.
I have to wonder how long these languished in some warehouse before Meh got them, and what their claimed shelf life is. This is not the first time they’ve been here, so we might see feedback from prior purchasers at some point.
Better Battery Company?!
…
“Better than WHAT?!”
@UncleVinny Better than Assault and Battery Company.
@UncleVinny @yakkoTDI Seems more like they are only doing half the job.

@kensey @yakkoTDI

@bobthenormal I’d buy batteries that looked like that
Damn meh why aren’t you selling these uh… batrooys?
Why don’t you find and sell battery storage solutions for people who already HAVE batteries, RECHARGEABLE batteries, and could use a nice, compact way, to store both AA, AAA, D, and 9-volt… AND with storage for drained, but soon to be charged, batteries? Huh!?! HUH??!
@Jantho I store mine in a good ol tackle box,
@Jantho They did, a while back. I bought it. It’s great.
I forget where I put the batteries
Every time I’ve bought batteries from meh, they were absolute garbage where most didn’t have a charge or were leaking. So they ended up costing me more than duracell or whatever at retail would’ve. It’s a no from me, dog.
@gymgeek The Lucas were hot garbage, but the Eveready Silver were great! Bought four boxes and not a one leaked.
@PooltoyWolf the lucas ones were one of them that burned me. I cant remember the other brand but everready doesnt sound familiar. I think they were some kind of eco ones made from recycled batteries or something like that.

@accumulator @gymgeek @PooltoyWolf “Lucas, the Prince of Darkness”
@accumulator @gymgeek @PooltoyWolf @werehatrack Lucas, inventors of the intermittent wipers. And intermittent lights.

@gymgeek You spelled “China” wrong.

I bought these last time and have had great luck with them. No leaks, good power, great concept…that maybe didn’t make it? Probably will buy again.
No Georgia Red. . . for that alone. . meh.
But I will consider.
@jrwofuga But they might be able to fire up a battery powered blender to make a frozen margarita.
How many who buy these will actually follow through with the free recycling program?
@PooltoyWolf How many who buy these believe that there actually is a free recycling program rather than a return-and-they-dump-them-in-the-garbage program?
@ItalianScallion That would be called fraud.

I like the Tame Impala mention on the shipping label.
