Major good thing: They don’t use electronic switches that will drain the batteries even when the light is off. The flashlights are kind of anemic by current standards, but they’re still OFW-level better than a 1995 Maglite, and the lanterns have roughly the output of the old Coleman single-mantle fuel-burners minus the heat and the fragile-as-shit mantles. You can use these inside your tent or blanket fort safely.
@hchavers, Well, I’ll B d 1st 2 admit, I’m not dim, but I Am dimmer than most of dim other dim wits who don’t know they’re ass dim as a battery flashlight with zero batteries, AND dim got a box Full of Energizers in d Fridge! Yeah!!
@awk@werehatrack Ultimate at night calls for a glow-in-the-dark (or lighted) disk; not to mention that players REALLY need to wear glow bracelets & necklaces.
Don’t ask me how I know
I wish these would work with 18650s, like many flashlights that use 3-AAA batteries do. I just pulled 20 working cells out of a broken hoverboard. Amazon has flashlights that can use 18650s so I’ll have to go there.
@aarond12 Just be aware that hoverboards typically have the protection circuitry in the control board, so those recovered cells most likely will not have protection chips on them. This matters, because without the chip, you have to take care of preventing full discharge yourself. Most unchipped lithium cells will become permanently dead if allowed to fully discharge even once.
@aarond12 OBTW, SideDeal had some small floodlights that would take an 18650, for $19 per each (OUCH!) recently. They came with a pitifully dainty USB Micro charging cable, and I very much doubt that they had battery discharge protection in the light, but if they show up for less money here, it might be worth grabbing a couple.
@aarond12 I was thinking the same thing. There was one sold on meh a year or so ago that takes a little 3-AAA barrel adapter, which if removed can be replaced with an 18650. If that were the case I’d pick this set up; oh well.
Just want to say, mentioning QVC around anyone who has a packrat in-law retiree in the family, who keeps QVC or its competitors on the TV twelve hours a day, is not a way to impart the idea that the product is useful or valuable. For that matter, mentioning QVC can put it into the class of “things whose arrival is likely to produce outright dread”. (But at least it’s not a collectible plate. Or a collectible anything.)
Now, there’s a relatively terrifying thought that just occurred to me. Collectible flashlights and speaker docks. It’s too late to dread collectible knives, that ship sailed a long time ago.
@werehatrack Wow - that has become a much more valuable flashlight after all that effort! Good to know, although I wouldn’t be equipped to do a rescue like that myself.
@detailer@thechilipepper0@werekong
It’s not hard to see why I can’t recall having ever heard of them, and I’m ancient enough to remember bands that are older.
Yes, the flashlights are plastic; yes, they focus, but it’s via a twist collar. No, they are NOT weatherproof. The stated brilliance, 50 lumens, is probably not far off; still better than a traditional halogen MagLite, but not OMG-better. The battery cavity is about 3mm too short to accommodate an 18650 cell, and since the cap goes on with a twist-lock instead of screwing in place, you can’t simply swap to the single rechargeable lithium cell that you might prefer. (I tried.)
As for the lanterns, they’re what they say they are. No surprises there.
Tonight’s sale is canceled due to lack of interest.
@phendrick
Deal with it.
Look! Up on the internet! It’s SUPER MEH!!!
@yakkoTDI Will light up that trunk real good.

@werehatrack What does OFW-level mean? I have a Maglite, and still like it (I think) Thanks!
@mrbillmc Oh Fucking Wow
Flashlights and lanterns again? Meh, how dim do you think we are?
@hchavers Dimmer than the lanterns?
@hchavers I think you really don’t want to know…

How I plan on using mine
@GenWithaG123 That made me think of OwlKitty.
@yakkoTDI Oh my gosh, the purr
@GenWithaG123 @yakkoTDI OMG… Never saw that one. Still giggling. Wait til it gets a whiff of your trunk.
@GenWithaG123 @yakkoTDI
My God, it’s full of cats
/image 2001 my god its full of stars
@GenWithaG123 @pmarin @yakkoTDI, Alright, HAL, ya weren’t that bright!!
Wow, it’s the ULTIMATE bundle. There is no other flashlight bundle in existence that can possibly reach this lofty pinnacle of excellence!
@awk No, man, this is the bundle for people who want to play Ultimate at night.
@awk @werehatrack Ultimate at night calls for a glow-in-the-dark (or lighted) disk; not to mention that players REALLY need to wear glow bracelets & necklaces.
Don’t ask me how I know
@awk @werehatrack Maybe, but the PENULTIMATE bundle is always nipping at its heels.
@awk @compunaut @werehatrack, Okie Dokie I won’t ask you How You Know, but I’m still a bit curious of How D0 You Know¿?
Thinking this set might be good to stash away and dedicate to emergency use during power outages.
@ashemo Batteries packed separately, just in case they leak. (Unless you plan to regularly just replace them as a precaution.)
@ashemo This is exactly why I picked up a set. Damn hurricanes

Crap, I just realized something. I have a collectible flashlight.
@werehatrack Pretty!
@Kyeh Typical MagLite in one respect; the second set of batteries leaked badly, leading me to actually figure out how to extract such a mess.

@werekong what is this, some kind of Walmart brand Beatles?
@thechilipepper0 … Elitist.
@thechilipepper0 No need for disparaging comments. They are clearly the Kmart Beatles. See logo on top left.
