$1/oz for jerky? Not much more to buy fresh from suppliers online. On sale at the grocery store isn’t much more. BOGO sale might even be less. Hard Pass.
@drz@pyroguy7@zatojz29 they use nitrites instead of celery powder (same difference), but OW is sold in bagged bulk and not individual wrappers. Still a better deal, but less convenient for trips.
I had a meat stick phase. I think it started with eating some homemade deer jerky. It was so well seasoned, too. I spent maybe like 3 years chasing that flavor and never finding it. Eventually, I experimented too much and ate a meat stick at a flea market.
Never ate meat sticks (or Jerky) again.
@dpease “How you feel about the texture, what you think of the taste, whether or not you eat meat–these factors will dictate whether or not you enjoy or disavow the entire concept.”
@werehatrack huh. I’ve used old jerky in soups (spoiler alert, year old jerky remains hard and dry, even under pressurized cooking, so chop them up into fine mince and treat them like bacon bits) but never thought to use them in a Mac and Cheese.
@dvermilion I still like HTY jerky; they’re only in pouch/shredded form, but they marinate their meat in fruit preserves, so they’re all soft and tender (and a bit sticky)
I hate to interrupt the clever and enjoyable humor, but permission to ask a serious question? Thank you. Are these regular size (why can’t I insert “meat stick” here with a straight face) product? Similar to those near every checkout in nearly every store?
@lomerson2 An Amazon reviewer said they are 4 inches long. The listing has them at 0.5oz. How that compares to your everyday checkout aisle meat stick, I’m not sure
@vudean Specs say best by 7/28/24, two thirds of the way through summer. For me, that won’t get me through the terribly hot August days of a Texas summer.
@Chronicle@rcwbbb made yes, sourced is never clear for any goods. Most companies would hype things up, like Wendy’s and their North American Angus beef (Canadian).
I can’t say for certain if the Think Jerky beef is grown in Oceana (usually New Zealand) and processed in the USA, but if they were using American cows (I can’t imagine many domestic farms use grass), I imagine they’d bring it up more often.
@Lidio They’ll likely be from the same batch, having spent that time in a Carrollton warehouse as summer gathers strength, so maybe the same description but probably not the same value.
Worth a shot. Good ingredient specs. And price per gram of protein is on par with other sources of quality (read also portable) protein snacks/bars.

The flavor was quite good and they weren’t stringy and you didn’t have to tear it apart with the chompers either. My 85yr old dad was able to eat them easily as well. The only problem was we went through them waaayyyy too fast. Wish they were standard size as opposed to the little short guys. I’d def recommend.

Where’s the beef?
Dollar an ounce?
@Euniceandrich 50 cents a jerk.
@Euniceandrich @mcoffell twss
@Euniceandrich @mcoffell @pmarin TWSC
And to answer your question the word is charged.
How do I offer one to a coworker with out being called to HR?
@Num1Zero just tell them take this. It’s my meat stick it in your mouth. I see no issue with that.
$1/oz for jerky? Not much more to buy fresh from suppliers online. On sale at the grocery store isn’t much more. BOGO sale might even be less. Hard Pass.
@drz what fresh suppliers are you buying from?
@drz @pyroguy7 Old Wisconsin. 45 cents an Oz on Amazon
@drz @pyroguy7 @zatojz29 they use nitrites instead of celery powder (same difference), but OW is sold in bagged bulk and not individual wrappers. Still a better deal, but less convenient for trips.

@AaronLeeJohnson oooofffff flea market meat. That’s a strong hard nopety nope!
As Slim Jim would say, “Eat me.”
I hear this stuff is pretty awesome, but I’d be a buyer at $20
LEGOS! EGGOS! STRATEGO! AWESOME!
@bugger and it’s in convenient bite sized packaging; I would be tempted at 25$ (if I didn’t have all this Prevail jerky from the Mehrathon)
Ok, but how does the beef stick eat the grass?
@Willijs3 With a spoon.
Jerkying us around, again.
Last year around this time, there were a similar number of full sized sticks being sold at this price (though it was baja beef and not think beef).
@pakopako Those were good. Can anyone compare these to those?
@Vinito Baja is a lot softer, more moist (some may say greasy). Think is more firm, more peppery.
I miss their Thanksgiving jerky. I thought so their jerky was very good, but the Thanksgiving was the best.
Please buy some of their jerky.
@craigthom Sriracha Honey Turkey jerky?
@pakopako That’s good, too, but the Thanksgiving was turkey with cranberry, sage, and thyme.
@craigthom oh man, now I want some.
I’ve had this brand of beef stick. It’s got the standard greasy mouth feel that makes me remember I don’t like beef sticks.
@dpease “How you feel about the texture, what you think of the taste, whether or not you eat meat–these factors will dictate whether or not you enjoy or disavow the entire concept.”
What am I supposed to wash with these?
@warpedrotors They are good for getting into the crevices.
Are they Mac-compatible? Do they support inductive charging?
@werehatrack huh. I’ve used old jerky in soups (spoiler alert, year old jerky remains hard and dry, even under pressurized cooking, so chop them up into fine mince and treat them like bacon bits) but never thought to use them in a Mac and Cheese.
Biltong is the new beef jerky. (´~`)
@dvermilion I still like HTY jerky; they’re only in pouch/shredded form, but they marinate their meat in fruit preserves, so they’re all soft and tender (and a bit sticky)
Make a Marg’?
These’d make great cocktail swizzle sticks for hangin’ out on the deck in the fading afternoon sunshine.
I think I may be in…

@lomerson2 @SomeGuysLaptop Most guys consider a 4in Meat Stick to be “regulation sized”
@dragoncmndr …and they swear it’s twice that measurement.
@dragoncmndr @werehatrack

These look fairly large for suppositories but, Ok I’ll give it a try…
I came for the comments, and, I’m pleased
I’m in! Cheaper than Costco!

any ideas on expiration date? Will these get me through the summer?!
@vudean ok, I ordered them anyway, but come on meh… my confirmation is “grassy-milky-vein”
@vudean from the description above
“Best By 7/28/2024”
@vudean Specs say best by 7/28/24, two thirds of the way through summer. For me, that won’t get me through the terribly hot August days of a Texas summer.
@rcwbbb @craigthom thanks, how did I miss that!? At least it will get me through June summer sports tournaments and I can feed them to the kids

@craigthom @rcwbbb @vudean you can still give it to them in September; jerky holds pretty well.
Where are these made? Are they USA cows? or we eating some other countries?
@Chronicle I can see that it says USDA inspected. But still. Makes me wonder.
@Chronicle Packaging pictures on Amazon say made in USA.
@rcwbbb Thanks!

Total Fat, Cholesterol, and Sodium in the listing do not match the nutrition label. And what, exactly, are “spices?”
@MrNews
/giphy secret spices
@pakopako Chinese take-out Food Disguise Sauce #3 (of 5)…
I’m sure they’ll circle back with these at a lower price in a couple of months, sooo… ¯_(ツ)_/¯
@Lidio They’ll likely be from the same batch, having spent that time in a Carrollton warehouse as summer gathers strength, so maybe the same description but probably not the same value.

Since this has come up as the May 13th deal on Side Deal, do any of the April purchasers have feedback to report about the quality of the product?
The flavor was quite good and they weren’t stringy and you didn’t have to tear it apart with the chompers either. My 85yr old dad was able to eat them easily as well. The only problem was we went through them waaayyyy too fast. Wish they were standard size as opposed to the little short guys. I’d def recommend.
Very lasting aftertaste.
@blaineg good, indifferent, meh, or ick?
@werehatrack Exactly the same flavor as the stick, but it hangs around a while. So it depends on how much you like the flavor.
For me it makes it more for camping use than snacking.
