@eeterrific I’ve been using these extensively for myself and others (I do mask mandatory face to face but somehow people forget, or they think I’ll let it slide, or they didn’t think about whether their mask will hold up to hours of continuous wear) and my experience is that, yes, for what they are, they’re good.
Difficulties I’ve had have been straps breaking loose (I use a band behind my head for better tightness and less ear pulling) and, if I have to talk a lot, I have to remember to breathe more frequently… There is some resistance, which means there isn’t much leakage on inhale (again, pulled tight). Exhale does fog my glasses; I’m considering trying double sided tape next time I do a long stint.
I use the broken strap ones as filter inserts on cloth masks, so no loss there, and the cloth designs let me feel fancy!
I’ve had maybe a dozen people try them to replace their sagging cloth mask and responses were very positive, AND they kept then in without needing to tug them up non stop.
I genuinely do have a box of these in the car at all times, along with my hand sanitizer. So yeah, I think they’re worth it. And, despite spending two hours indoors with someone who was, it turns out, just hitting the infectious point of presymptomatic COVID, I have remained COVID free*.
*Anecdotal evidence, but I do think the masks are better than cloth
@a13z@eeterrific I think it’s minimal and short range (and reducing range/ saturation is pretty much the purpose of non-N95s of all sorts), but yeah, that’s why I’m considering the double sided tape. I’m able to isolate pretty thoroughly, so my exhalation is probably low risk, but if I can lower it further, I will.
I did just check Amazon for N95s, and it looks like they may finally be available. So that’s the next step for any exposures longer than the weekly grocery dash.
@brainmist@eeterrific, I did hear, or read somewhere that physicians & immunologists were saying cloth masks are really not that protective, and heard others suggest wearin two masks, so I assume the outer mask could be a cloth {the kind that look cool, but have no nose guard, and are just 1, or 2 layers thin}. I have a loose-fitting cloth cotton mask with a Pig nose & a fn smile but wear a KN95 mask underneath it for much better protection. I like & always buy the 5-Layer masks. I may buy these to replace some KN95 masks I purchased on Wish which I’m suspicious of & to air on the side of caution!! Sorry, for the long comment; sometimes I get wound-up after taking my pain meds. My Bad!!
@a13z@brainmist@eeterrific, exhaling doesn’t effect, or harm you, but Does protect others IF you happen to be infected [symptomatic, OR nonsymptomatic]!!
@a13z@brainmist@eeterrific In my own experience, anything that’s not a fitted N95 is going to fog your glasses. I have found that the KN95s with the metal strip on the outside (like these) are easier to get a good fit with though. Assuming these are like similar lots sold by Meh, the fit is significantly better than surgical or cloth masks. However, some air will still escape from the top or bottom. I have a tiny head though so maybe YMMY.
@Ayanami Yeah, I need to tighten the straps or use a back connector to get a proper fit. Once it’s tight, I don’t get much leakage (although tightening it does increase the chance of snapping the loops free from the mask). I do end up with facial dents after a few hours, but I’ll take that over catching or spreading this any day!
I knew that as soon as I bought some elsewhere they’d show up here, and sure enough…I ordered a 50-pack yesterday. Still buying these anyway, but the very next day? That’s just cruel.
@benf_dc The masks have the metal strip. The picture of the mask is a marketing photo to make that apparent. The actual strip is in the pocket it is sitting on. You can still see that pocket on the box.
@benf_dc Thanks, @daynew ! Yeah, a closer look at the picture of the mask with strip on top seems to show that there’s a strip inside the pocket, as well.
@RedOx@username Yeah, that looks like a manufacturing flaw. If you want to use it anyway, ideally seal it shut… But even with that, it’ll still reduce the amount of shed virus that makes it from you into the air around you. It’s a bit holier a piece of Swiss cheese, but better than none.
@brainmist@RedOx@username Those are hot seals. They melt the layers in place. You only have to worry if there is a hole, not a translucent spot. The melted parts can’t let anything through provided no hole.
Based on the rants of a previous mask sale I decided to check ebay. Took a risk on some $16 for 50…liked em. My kids school had a donation thingy so I donated a bunch and am currently waiting for my second shipment.
Post covid they will be used in my garage or shop when I’m sanding, painting (yes, I know) woodworking/turning and sweeping so I can’t have too many.
Ebay is always a gamble, at least you know what to expect on meh.
2/$1 ain’t no bad price for yous guys that gets anxieties from eBay crap shoots.
If I weren’t still stocked from previous sales, I’d be in … Individually wrapped is a nice touch. But I’m hoping the next time I have to restock, N95s will be more available
Ordered masks on the last sale and they been sitting at the hand-off to USPS for almost 1 week. I think it’s been 3 weeks and still stuck in limbo. Probably more Covid related nonsense causing delays.
@Larry1977 Don’t feel bad. USPS “attempted” delivery Sunday and could not find a safe place to leave the package. It seems opening the screen door to an enclosed porch is like, so hard. So, set it up for redelivery Monday, no show. Today, no show. Signed up for notifications today and realized it is a package shipped six weeks ago.
@Larry1977@ponagathos I’ve been seeing a lot of that “sitting in one location for a week”. I had 3 USPS deliveries in January that did that. I live west of St. Louis in the exurbs, and 2 of them just sat in the St. Louis distribution center for a week… probably an hours drive from me.
@Larry1977@ponagathos@TimW I had a package shipped to me from St. Louis that sat there for 10 days before it left. They must really be having problems there.
@Fuzzalini@ponagathos@TimW Just checked and it finally completed the Pitney Bowes to USPS transfer and immediate ETA of today. It sat at a location 33 miles away for 7 days only to be delivered the next day.
@Fuzzalini@Larry1977@ponagathos@TimW -not on a Meh order, but just received yesterday a package that had been sitting with Pitney Bowes for almost 2 months at a location less than a two hour drive from me. Once they handed it off to USPS I had it in less than 24 hours.
During the wait for my package, googled “Pitney Bowes slow shipping”, tons of complaints
@ekyles it’s just common sense, look I didn’t run the numbers myself but 3 masks makes more sense than 2 which makes more sense than 1 which makes more sense than 0. It’s just common sense. Maybe you could accessorize?
@ekyles Its 2 masks if you are wearing a 1 or 2 layer cloth mask because 3 or 4 layers of cloth with a filter is safer. with this one you will be fine with just this one…unless you want a useless cloth one over it so your pretty.
Just to be clear: KN-95 is NOT the same thing as N-95. Do some googling. This is not filtering 96% of particulates. It is a mask and masks are good but if you are looking for N-95, this ain’t that.
@mrdibs Do some searching and you will find that the difference is one consonant in the name and where they are certified. There is no absolute that N-95 are (or are not) more effective than KN-95.
@mrdibs KN is the Chinese standard. N is what we use in the US.
KN vs N isn’t relevant. They both are designed to block a very high percentage of particulates. The piece I get nervous of on KN labeled content is its authenticity. Huge market right not for stamping KN95 on a basic mask.
In my last shipment of these, the ear loop tore out of the mask immediately in about a third of them. So use that for planning purposes. The KN95 can still be used inside a cloth mask, but it’s irritating that the construction is so poor.
So, I’m paying $5/month as a VMP member for (K)N95 masks every other day? I understand the importance of these being sold, but I can’t understand why they don’t just offer these separately on sidedeal, or morningsave. At least give me a damn bluetooth speaker or another Mophie usb charger to mull over.
I have purchased several packs of KN95s (somewhere I heard the “K” was for “korea”) .
Be aware that these “Asian” N95’s in my experience have small earloops are are miserable to wear for anyone with a large cranium. I don’t know if this spec is ever listed anywhere in product descriptions.
@jacqisd Although I SWEAR I saw these advertised as individually wrapped earlier today, I can’t find it now. I ordered these BECAUSE I believed they WERE individually wrapped. I’ve put in a request to cancel my order.
@jacqisd Mine just arrived today. They are not individually wrapped. They are packaged in boxes of 10. My order confirmation did say “individually wrapped” but the shipping notice did not say that. I got my full order. It does say they are good for 3 years with a manufacture date of 4/28/2020.
@carolineecou@jacqisd They were originally listed as individually wrapped. And then at some point Meh apparently changed the listing. Customer service gave me attitude when I complained and said the specs say boxes of 10. Tried to say they earlier sold masks that were individually wrapped. I had to send my original order receipt that shows that said individually wrapped before they emailed me a shipping label to return it.
@jacqisd They were advertised as individually wrapped, but mine arrived in packs of 10, which makes them completely useless to me. (I bought them to hand out to people.)
Someone should start making these with an option to select color based on ethnicity so they blend with the face color better. Right now everyone looks like Extras from General Hospital or robbery suspects looking for a convience or liquor store. Just sayin
@AndyChase I prefer the non-skin tones because it’s easy to quickly identify that people are wearing them, and wearing them correctly. Plus making them visible helps normalize wearing them.
Now, if they had pretty designs, that would be nice.
If these are the same as sold before you really owe yourself to lookup the FDA test results on masks. The box I got from meh last time scored as low as 35%~ efficiency due to what I presume is failures on some of the test batch.
I have found visible holes in some of the masks in the box I last got.

And of course you will only get full benefit of the filtration level if they are fitted so that they have no leaks. That includes with NIOSH certified N-95’s too.
I notice these now say “Sold Out.” But I wonder if that’s really what happened? About two hours ago there was discussion about the “individually wrapped” thing. I think I saw that too earlier today. Which I assumed was the reason they were going for the higher price compared to (admittedly questionable) eBay sources.
But now I’m thinking maybe that was a mistake in the listing, and so it was pulled to avoid more people demanding refunds.
@pmarin They were originally listed as individually wrapped. And then at some point Meh apparently changed the listing. Well, it’s Groundhog Day, again, and masks (60 indiv. wrapped) have not yet arrived. Should I cancel the order or keep waiting? Only ordered these for the individually wrapped feature.

I thought it said individually wrapped when I purchased them. I received boxes of ten that are wrapped. Not cool. If this is the way you do business, I won’t be placing anymore orders. One BIG MEH!!!

@yakkoTDI, Kemo Sah-bee, Blue Eyes!!
Anyone know if these are REALLY good?
@eeterrific I’ve been using these extensively for myself and others (I do mask mandatory face to face but somehow people forget, or they think I’ll let it slide, or they didn’t think about whether their mask will hold up to hours of continuous wear) and my experience is that, yes, for what they are, they’re good.

*Anecdotal evidence, but I do think the masks are better than cloth
@brainmist @eeterrific Do you think there’s anything to the worry that if your glasses fog, the mask isn’t sealed properly for exhale?
@a13z @eeterrific I think it’s minimal and short range (and reducing range/ saturation is pretty much the purpose of non-N95s of all sorts), but yeah, that’s why I’m considering the double sided tape. I’m able to isolate pretty thoroughly, so my exhalation is probably low risk, but if I can lower it further, I will.

did i miss where it listed manufacturer / fda certification?
@outz blame Meh for missing it
Photo of mask shows a metal strip at the top to ensure a good seal. Photo of boxes does not show that metal strip. Which is correct?
@benf_dc Same question here. My guess is they don’t have the metal strip since that pic is of the packaging.
@benf_dc one box fits all. What does it say about the manufacturer who is too cheap to change the box art work?
@benf_dc The masks have the metal strip. The picture of the mask is a marketing photo to make that apparent. The actual strip is in the pocket it is sitting on. You can still see that pocket on the box.
@benf_dc Thanks, @daynew ! Yeah, a closer look at the picture of the mask with strip on top seems to show that there’s a strip inside the pocket, as well.
Anyone else who bought these found the two rows of perforation strange? They are like in the middle of the mask, seems to defeat the purpose
@username
Pretty normal, how they fuse the 5 layers. They aren’t perforations but just melted, uncompromised spots (in all the ones I’ve seen anyway)
@username They’re not perforations, they’re a sort of fused seam holding the layers together and giving the mask more form.
@RedOx @brainmist
maybe i got a bad batch then, they are actual holes in mine
@RedOx @username Yeah, that looks like a manufacturing flaw. If you want to use it anyway, ideally seal it shut… But even with that, it’ll still reduce the amount of shed virus that makes it from you into the air around you. It’s a bit holier a piece of Swiss cheese, but better than none.
@brainmist @username
Holy Crap… .china, is there any thing they can’t eff up? Sure still slow some particulates but that’s ridiculous.
@brainmist @RedOx @username Those are hot seals. They melt the layers in place. You only have to worry if there is a hole, not a translucent spot. The melted parts can’t let anything through provided no hole.
Made in China, for the final insult?
Are remarks like these even helpful?
@haydesigner are remarks like this even useful?
@mekantor Are these remarks about helpfulness and usefulness helpful or useful?
@haydesigner yes
NO. MORE. MASKS. MEH!!!

@wyk3d Manufacturer: Dongyang Yige Metal Products

@SCHORERT the Korean standard is KF94
@SCHORERT I have some I just got from Amazon whose straps are too loose, and I have an enormous noggin.
@danpritts @SCHORERT Yup, I have to knot mine.
Are these masks individually wrapped? Or boxed in 10s? Please advise.
@jacqisd Although I SWEAR I saw these advertised as individually wrapped earlier today, I can’t find it now. I ordered these BECAUSE I believed they WERE individually wrapped. I’ve put in a request to cancel my order.
@jacqisd @Trinityscrew I remember seeing that too but not now. I’m still getting them though
@jacqisd @Trinityscrew the ones from the 14th were individually wrapped. Maybe you’re thinking of those ones?
I agree. The page said individually wrapped. Mine have arrived and not only was I shorted a box of 10masks, but they are packed 10 in a wrap. Grr.
@jacqisd Mine just arrived today. They are not individually wrapped. They are packaged in boxes of 10. My order confirmation did say “individually wrapped” but the shipping notice did not say that. I got my full order. It does say they are good for 3 years with a manufacture date of 4/28/2020.

If you decide to use these, check the data and inspect each mask before using.
I found these on Amazon that are $13.59 for 50. Never says KN-95 but references the GB/2626-2006 standard for them.
https://smile.amazon.com/Face-Mask-Disposable-5-Layer-White/dp/B08P4MTFL8/
Not sure whether to get those or these. Can anyone tell which ones are actually better?
For those who care, these have not been tested by the CDC as I don’t see them on the Jan 27th list
https://www.cdc.gov/niosh/npptl/respirators/testing/NonNIOSHresults.html
That being said they are going to have less air leakage than rectangular masks so in that respect they will be better than those even if filtration is subpar.
And of course you will only get full benefit of the filtration level if they are fitted so that they have no leaks. That includes with NIOSH certified N-95’s too.
@Kidsandliz I just got mine today. But couldn’t find any info if these are approved or not shrugs
I notice these now say “Sold Out.” But I wonder if that’s really what happened? About two hours ago there was discussion about the “individually wrapped” thing. I think I saw that too earlier today. @pmarin I remember seeing “individually wrapped” too. I bet you’re right!
@Kyeh A comment from @brainmist 20 hrs ago said: “Individually wrapped is a nice touch.”
@brainmist @pmarin Hah! Proof!
@pmarin They were originally listed as individually wrapped. And then at some point Meh apparently changed the listing. Damn. I hate bait and switch.
@Rooksie You said it.
just got them today, i used one and they have a peculiar smell anyone has the same experience.? thanks
Well, it’s Groundhog Day, again, and masks (60 indiv. wrapped) have not yet arrived. Should I cancel the order or keep waiting? Only ordered these for the individually wrapped feature.
@Mangonumerouno please read the description before you buy the item
<Estimated Delivery
its currently Feb 2

@Mangonumerouno
@communist meant the top of the product thread where Meh gives additional product specs.
Many listings have a wide estimated delivery date window. In this case, the window goes from February 2nd to February 8th.
While the estimated delivery date could be earlier, it’s only an estimated date, much more so when carriers are backed up.
@communist @Mangonumerouno
I just realized that the two of you were talking about two DIFFERENT mask listings.
I thought it said individually wrapped when I purchased them. I received boxes of ten that are wrapped. Not cool. If this is the way you do business, I won’t be placing anymore orders. One BIG MEH!!!
@customers Hi! You bought KN-95 masks from us back in January of 2021. We’ve got them on Meh again today, and I’d love if you could share any creative uses you’ve found for them with the community in our forum.
(Also, feel free to pick up another batch, they’re a whole lot cheaper now.)
I wear them daily
Yup. Used them, gave them to others.
These were super handy, I could throw a pack in my bag and I knew I had at least a mask and a couple of backups in case the strap snapped.
Also caught the dreaded virus (I’m fine now) after dodging it for 3 years so definitely not letting up on the masking in public. Thanks for the not so subtle hint to buy today’s meh!
