@elpepe Yes! Macs don’t have wireless power yet, so they still need cable ties and these are fully universal. Also, if a friendly cat has messed up the display hinge, these might help keep it shut in transit.
@paxrasmussen these are the same brand, at least as linked on Amazon. In for a couple of sets, I believe. I just need to decide if I need the longer ones or not.
@djslack I see that now. And I bought the 24" ones! Without the membership, about the same price as Amazon, but whatevs. I love the ones I’ve got now. I’ve even used them to hang a bike off my roof rack, and they held, no problem. Ditto a couple 2x4s.
@awk@dtwsportsfan@mehcuda67@raymeh
It’s still a 25% price hike. Anyone get a 25% pay raise? Other than corporate executives pocketing their tax breaks. China will pay for it. Just ask Mexico about their wall payments. I’m tired of winning. You?
Uh, nope. But back to the actual product. So I want to periodically secure the leash of my 15lb dog who goes nuts at the sight of all other dogs - this is going to be better than, say, a piece of paracord with a knot in each end? Why?
@aetris@mehvid1 I have rolls of paracord all over the place as it is good for so many things. Tie stuff to the roof rack. Makeshift laundry lines. Garottes.* I even replaced the cord on two big bamboo roll-up window shades with brown paracord and it works better than the original lines. Along with an array of Duck Tape rolls (and actual metal tape that is used on actual ducts), zip ties, and rolls of fine steel wire, I’m well supplied with fix-it stuff.
@medz I use these on my boat, and they’re exposed to sun and salt 24x7x300 days a year, in both the heat and cold. I won’t say they’re indestructible, but they’re extremely durable.
@mollama@therealjrn My first thought was too bad they aren’t locking ones… AKA how to keep a teenager in the house the night of a big party where someone’s parents aren’t home by attaching them to the bed.
I went to the amazon page to actually check out some of the much ballyhooed reviews, and ended up putting one of their shorter-length sets in my cart. I’ll see if I still want to overpay for a bunch of twist ties in the morning…
If anyone can come up with a good general application for heavy duty high quality twist ties of 18-24" length, I’d love to have a reason to consider buying the Meh offering…
@shahnm Only thing off the top of my head is gardening. Such as securing your tomato plants and viney things to a trellis. But most gardeners use strips of old T-shirts or something like that.
@shahnm@therealjrn the shorter ones are probably better for that. I envision these as being better for keeping coiled up extension cords, hoses, etc or tying up bigger things.
If you really want to be stingy, get some wire from the hardware store and cut it to the lengths you want it. Look for insulated solid copper wire, and test the flexibility in the 10 gauge range. Should be less than $.50/ft so you might get 25 ft for this price. If you don’t want to be stingy, these will only cost you a few more dollars, so whatevs.
My Meh drawer just called said it needs company immediately seeing how there are over 100 items in there so I have e to keep the draw happy …In for a 10ski
So, are these Nite-Ize brand? I did buy some of those knock offs from China (you know the ones that range anywhere from 0.45-0.56 cents depending on the tariff schedy and all) and they’re crap. My Nite-Ize have been great!
Would these work well to tie down a 24’ extension ladder to a car roof rack? I currently use 1/4" braided nylon rope but would like a quicker means of attachment and removal. Needs to be secure obviously.
@Jonas4321 Remind me never to drive behind you. Actually, with this exact scenario in mind, I always try to quickly move away from vehicles with ladders, mattresses, etc strapped on them.
Seriously, I would suggest something with a secure strap latch. I think the concern with these on a long trip would be that with vibration they might slowly loosen (like in all those movies when peoples hands are tied and yet they wriggle free and then surprise their assailants! – how many times have we seen that?)
@pmarin Remind me to ignore your judgemental first paragraph. My ladder is secured extremely well, not “strapped on”. You can avoid driving behind me all you want, won’t bother me.
I didn’t think that these would make a good mechanism for that, but having never encountered them at all, thought I would ask. Your thought about vibration is a good one, and I will agree and go along with my first thought, which was to continue to tie the mother down.
@ripper69 Our portable vacuum broke a little over a year after we bought it and one of these has been used to hold the crap-catcher closed ever since. It’s been doing it’s job for almost 4 years now.
For some reason it kept saying it wouldn’t take my order try again later. Then I deleted items and started again (only getting 2 total instead of 3). It did work then. At least it’s an appropriate order name for these:
Once again, I don’t know how I will use these, didn’t know they existed, and probably don’t need them. Being a meh member, I am determined to find a use for them.
@wickhameh Actually that is a good idea – in my case, cat-proof. Sometimes my cat really likes to open up kitchen cabinet doors. Not sure why and he won’t tell me.
@pmarin@wickhameh Yeah I was going to buy child proof hooks to use to keep my cats out from under the sink. Right now I am using parachute cord. The question though is to what extent they can ruin them chewing on them.
And cats, of course, get into cabinets because how else will they hide from us when we need to take them to the vet?
@RedOak Unfortunately I’m not one of the “cool people” and don’t even know what a VMP is. If I knew how to be one, I surely would have done so, but life is full of missed opportunities and we have to make the best of it…
@pmarin Not that big of a deal. As a “Member” (that heart logo next to your username), you have the same primary “benefit” - “free” shipping for that monthly five bucks.

In the early days VMPrs got some “free” stuff but those days are long gone.

@elpepe or a Tivo?
@elpepe Yes! Macs don’t have wireless power yet, so they still need cable ties and these are fully universal. Also, if a friendly cat has messed up the display hinge, these might help keep it shut in transit.
Tie one on?
Nope
I’m no expert, but this seems insanely overpriced for what it is.
@Dizavid Depends on overall quality. I use these, a LOT, on my truck. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Nite-Ize-24-in-Bright-Gear-Tie-in-Orange-2-Pack-GT24-2PK-31/203597305

Expensive bailing wire, bruh.
@medz Baling wire. As in the kind of wire used to make bales of hay and schtuff.
@mike808 nah. The kind of wire you can use as a zip line when bail from a 2nd story window.
@medz @mike808 I’m gonna bail on this argument…

Seems like something I could order from China in packs of 10,000 for 45¢.
@awk If you can, I’d seriously suggest getting some import going pronto. My business alone would yield you a pretty decent beach house.
@awk thats if you bought before the tariffs on goods from China.
@awk @dtwsportsfan
That’s so day-before-yesterday.
@awk @dtwsportsfan @mehcuda67 it’s only a 25% tariff, so 45¢ becomes 56¢.
@awk @dtwsportsfan @mehcuda67 @raymeh

@aetris We’re not allowed to discuss that until they’re selling paracord here.
@aetris @mehvid1 I have rolls of paracord all over the place as it is good for so many things. Tie stuff to the roof rack. Makeshift laundry lines. Garottes.* I even replaced the cord on two big bamboo roll-up window shades with brown paracord and it works better than the original lines. *Joking! That would be hell on my arthritis.
@rockblossom - OK, but since they’re NOT selling paracord -
/giphy noisy-hesitant-summer
@aetris I think I will just wait until they sell paracord. Because I can always use more paracord.
Twist ties are also technically reusable.
This is so meh it wraps around back to useful

Waterproof and safe for use in fresh or salt water
UV resistant: will not be damaged or destroyed by extended sun exposure
So if I use these to fasten my solar heater panels for my pool to a rack I built, they just bake in the sun and be totes fine?
@medz Sure, for at least 90 days!
@medz I use these on my boat, and they’re exposed to sun and salt 24x7x300 days a year, in both the heat and cold. I won’t say they’re indestructible, but they’re extremely durable.

@mcanavino You should try adulting sometime.
@mcanavino @mike808 I’ve tried it and it’s overrated IMHO.
@mcanavino your time will come. No amount of snow plowing can prevent it.
Knot going to do it.
And nobody beat me to this bad knotty pun?
@arrakisforce I was a bit tied up…
@arrakisforce @shahnm Such a cut up.
@arrakisforce @mike808 I think we’re all a little twisted…
@arrakisforce @shahnm We all have our hang-ups.
What the heck, Meh?! Another thing I feel like ordering from you?! Are you improving, or am I slipping, or both?!
Or interrobang?!
@UncleVinny Yes‽

So these are giant twist ties?
Can these be used for a tourniquet? Asking for a friend.
@ShotgunX only one way to find out…

Buying the 10 pack gets you 3 extra feet or 45 six inch ties…Ty team Meh you guys really stepped up in 2019
@mellowirishgent 30 six inch ties not 45 duh me lol

@Jonas4321 @pmarin I don’t think strapping Mom to the roof is a good idea either.
@therealjrn So you’re just going to leave her behind, you callous selfish asshole?!?
@Jonas4321 @UncleVinny Yep!
Do these return to their straight shape?
@hchavers Yes, but prayer won’t do it. To do that requires a hand job.
@hchavers @mike808 You meh’ed me laugh!
Pass. No baby arm. No irk.
Someone tell me why I would want to buy these? I don’t go camping and I don’t tie ladders to the top of my car. Any other suggestions?
@ripper69 You buy these to put in the drawer along with that HUGE paperclip you bought at the fair that one year.
@therealjrn That is what I was afraid of!!
@ripper69 Our portable vacuum broke a little over a year after we bought it and one of these has been used to hold the crap-catcher closed ever since. It’s been doing it’s job for almost 4 years now.
@ripper69 To tie a kid into their car seat after they have learned how to undo the straps? To tie an alligator’s mouth shut?
@ripper69 I use them for my garden, Easy way to guide my Shrubs and young trees. Tie the branches together quickly easily, and adjustable.
think reusable zip ties.
@ripper69 Garden hoses, extension cords, small annoying pets/children, etc. The list is endless is the list!

Aw, the 18" are sold out. Would’ve been 2 purchases in one week, which would’ve been an all-time record for me.
Oh well, maybe for the best.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Well that sucks I wanted the 10 pack of 18 inch but I guess if you snooze you lose so I’ll settle for the six pack of 24 inch ones
@bigtom67 I won’t. Was already on the fence on the deal. Tipped in favor of my bank acct due to 18" sellout.
had to meh since $10+$5 shipping doesn’t beat a variety pack on Amazon: https://amzn.to/2LMCaZO
@nebulous yah, $10 with Prime for that variety 8-pack via Amazon makes missing this sold out $10 18" 10 pack Meh deal not a big deal.
@nebulous Yeah, should pay for the “membership,” 'cause why? 'cause I buy too much wine on the related site.
@pmarin that’s different. Money can’t buy happiness, but booze can.

These are handy for child-proofing double-doors.
@wickhameh Actually that is a good idea – in my case, cat-proof. Sometimes my cat really likes to open up kitchen cabinet doors. Not sure why and he won’t tell me.
@pmarin @wickhameh Yeah I was going to buy child proof hooks to use to keep my cats out from under the sink. Right now I am using parachute cord. The question though is to what extent they can ruin them chewing on them.
And cats, of course, get into cabinets because how else will they hide from us when we need to take them to the vet?
Maybe a dumb question, but are these 18"/24" from the middle out, or a total (each of the legs 9" or 12" which double to total the 18"/24")?
@tohar1 Possibly.
I want a tarp!!!
Well that was a wasted trip at 4pm ET. No 18’’ versions saved for VMPrs.
@RedOak they never save specifics, just some product.
@RedOak Unfortunately I’m not one of the “cool people” and don’t even know what a VMP is. If I knew how to be one, I surely would have done so, but life is full of missed opportunities and we have to make the best of it…

Basically, Very Meh Persons also have that 4pm window where a few of the deal’s items are made available to VMPrs. Not that it mattered today since only the less desirable version was saved and offered. And during the Meh-Rathons there can be an hour where deals are only available to VMPrs.
In the early days VMPrs got some “free” stuff but those days are long gone.
And is the /buy command to trigger an order in the deal’s forum really a benefit? I’ve never been tempted to use it.
@pmarin @RedOak /buy works for members as well now.
These look really cool. Bring them back somedayyyy.
These are really nice, even for non-sex things. If you sell more I’ll definitely buy them.
@Seeds I was impressed as well. They are very sturdy
