I And Love And You XOXOs Can Cat Food (Tuna & Egg Stew)
I’ve had canned wet food go bad only a few months after expiration. It developed a weird slime on top of it and definitely had a smell. That being said man I’d love some peach cobbler right about now.
@tysontomko are you sure the can wasn’t damaged? Canned things may lose their texture over time, but unless the can is breached or was contaminated before being canned by something that could survive the heat, they last practically forever.
The pop tops are a weak point, but they are convenient.
I’ve had a pouch of food from this brand and my cat loved it, but he only likes paté textured food, not “stew.” It’s a shame because this is a good brand. I got a lot of the Evolve brand because he acted like he liked it - but then he changed his mind. Luckily my brother’s cat does like it.
@Kyeh my cats love anything, but one of my dogs is a fussy eater. Canned cat food is a good way to get her interested, believe it or not. We normally get our cat food in bulk from Costco, and I’m trying to convince my spouse to give them some variety. I may just buy it out of pettiness.
@Kyeh yeah, my Diva prefers pate, so I’m hesitant to get this, tho it is a good brand and price. I’ve mashed other non-pates for her in the past with good results.
My Sammy would have eaten it, but he’s been gone for about 16 months now.
I guess I’ll get some as I can always mix it in with the dogs’ kibble or give it to a neighbor or shelter.
@DKBingham@baqui63 I’m always a bit worried about finding a food that’s normally expensive at a great price here and then finding out that Toby loves it so much he won’t go back to his cheaper food.
I don’t have a cat, but I feed a few that I’ve trapped and had snipped. They eat pretty much whatever I give them and are happy to have it.
Unfortunately, a neighbor two doors down moved in and has been “rescuing” cats, which she allows to roam freely. I can’t feed “my” community cats without also feeding six to eight or hers (a ninth has been hovering closer and closer. Hers are socialized and are less afraid of me than my regulars are.
@phendrick I don’t think there is a solution. I’m traveling for a week next month. Other neighbors will put out food while I’m gone, but I won’t be there to push (or toss) the others away while mine eat. They can survive for a week, and I suspect they have alternative sources of food.
Taking a chance that at least 1 of my cats will like these.
One of them was just diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, so he’s hungry allll the time. Poor kitty! We feed him wet food frequently during the day to keep his calories up and for the extra fluids, but he will only eat a little at a time. We try to keep a variety of foods in his rotation hoping to get enough food in him daily.
@k4evryng Exactly our situation with a senior cat (in addition to a 11 week old kitten and two year old). Usually with this kind of food they lick the gravy and leave the bits…good luck!
@k4evryng@Kidsandliz@margav A feeding booth with a controlled door is possible if the targets are chipped (and assuming you have the space and skills to set it up), but that’s a bit pricey.
@Kidsandliz that is definitely a problem for us! Mine aren’t ferals, but they are all older, and one of them is already chunky. She doesn’t need to clean up the plates of the other 2. So we’re going to wind up with 1 underweight with hyperthyroidism, and 1 overweight with diabetes if we’re not careful. But it’s just so hard to keep them separated to eat. I swear my chunky girl could hear a can open from clear across the house, lol! (And they all definitely like the gravy the best!)
All 3 are forest cats, so they are supposed to be big…but I really think I’m going to get an earful from my vet when Sophie shows up at over 15 pounds. She’s just…fluffy, right?
I do like that these are smaller cans. Easy to split into 3 small portions and keep the overfeeding of the other 2 at a minimum. I might have to smush it if the pieces are too big though…they prefer shreds or pate.
@margav I might have to smash it together if they just leave the solids, lol!
How do you treat your kitty with hyperthyroidism? We were going to go with irradiation, but with two other cats, and the restrictions on the radioactive litter box (meaning he’d have to be kept isolated for like a month), we opted for the in-ear medicine. He does ok with that. It would really stress him out to be at the vet for @2 weeks and then be separated from the family. So we decided that even if it gives us a slightly less time with him, he’ll be happier overall. He’s going to be 16, so any extra time we get is a bonus.
And omg…an 11 week old kitten? We might need to see a picture here, lol!
gonna try these out I guess. Smaller than the cans I normally split for the Katz but they haven’t been finishing what I put out so maybe that’s good
(they have free range dry food so it’s not like they are starved…)

I wouldn’t feed this gunk to my dog! (World’s un-pickiest eaters.) Been using Royal Canin for decades. Cats can be extremely picky, and can also have a wide variety of health issues, which prescription foods help address. That said, if you are feeding strays, ferals, or a spouse you hate, this would probably be okay to use.
@MrNews All four times that a vet recommended a particular Royal Canin for one of our cats, the entire pride turned up their noses at it. One batch was also rejected by the ferals at a friend’s house. I’m never going to waste my money on it again.
@Trinityscrew No. But if you provide your address, I’m pretty sure I can arrange for you to get one delivered. Or even two. In fact, two would be easier.
Okay, sure, Tapioca is a tuber, not a grain, but the point of “No Grain” is really about the fact that carbs, especially sugars, are bad for cats. Some rice flour would probably be far better than the Tapioca…
If you really need a binder, use a gum, not a starch.
@baqui63
I found out my patience for that wore out after a few attempts. My go-to now is to go directly to giphy.com and pick it myself! You can then cut and paste the share URL and it will show up as your gif
It’s a good price for well-rated stuff. Maybe our cats and cat neighbors will like it, if not the local shelter will like it. Got 4 cases. And 2 packs of cat socks at sidedeal.com.
Food arrived. One can of tuna & Egg opened and presented to our main crew of six cats. Two of them licked up the gravy. Nobody ate the chunks.
Looks like the feral kittens will be the next testers.
OBTW, these cans are the type with the really deep lid that’s hard to reach with a regular Swing-Away opener, but the sidecutter-style works just fine. (I avoid using the pull tabs For Experience-Based Reasons.)

Wet cats are so hard to find good food for.
/showme wet cat
@yakkoTDI Which brings up the obvious question of whether this is safe and effective to feed to dry cats…

@craigthom @tysontomko
yeah, but it shouldn’t be hard to use them up before the expiry date… that’s only less than a 1/4 can a day!
@tysontomko
/showme Homer Simpson, yum, peach cobbler!
/showme a cartoon character entirely unlike Homer Simpson delightedly eating peach cobbler

Fixed that for you… Don’t make our product posts about your political affiliations. -ExtraMedium
Everyone who owns a cat, knows, these fuckers are picky. I could buy this and my Scampers will probably choose to starve.
@goldnectar
that’s why there are drop offs for the shelters…
@chienfou @goldnectar These would probably make good bait for TNR cages.
@chienfou @goldnectar These would probably make good bait for TNR cages.

@baqui63 @Kyeh that makes sense. I have a picky dog, and that’s my concern as well.
I don’t have a cat, but may get some anyway. I hear it’s a great sleep aid.
@NapkinEater I keep a few cans in the car for cats I may run across in parking lots or at rest areas.
@NapkinEater r/CatDistributionSystem
@craigthom @NapkinEater After you run across a cat, is it still able to chew and swallow?
@craigthom @NapkinEater @phendrick
gotta say… I thought the same thing, then thought better of posting it.
Buuuut since you went there already:
@chienfou @craigthom @NapkinEater My social filter is fairly meh hereon.
“Catastrophic” , luv it.

@craigthom I’m in a similar situation. Let me know please if you figure out a reasonable solution.
@phendrick I don’t think there is a solution. I’m traveling for a week next month. Other neighbors will put out food while I’m gone, but I won’t be there to push (or toss) the others away while mine eat. They can survive for a week, and I suspect they have alternative sources of food.
@craigthom @phendrick Solutions are possible if the cats are chipped, but the fix is neither cheap nor simple.
Dogs love cat food. Backup plan…
@bblick it’s much better than them eating what comes out of the other end of a cat…
Taking a chance that at least 1 of my cats will like these.

For this price, these are worth a shot…
@k4evryng Exactly our situation with a senior cat (in addition to a 11 week old kitten and two year old). Usually with this kind of food they lick the gravy and leave the bits…good luck!
@k4evryng @margav Yes mine tend to lick the gravy and leave the rest as well. They are fans of pate.
Good luck with only feeding your ferals and not the rest of them. No idea how to solve that problem.
@k4evryng @Kidsandliz @margav A feeding booth with a controlled door is possible if the targets are chipped (and assuming you have the space and skills to set it up), but that’s a bit pricey.

Cats totally live up to their finicky rep.

@MrNews This stuff is high quality food, usually pretty expensive.
@Kyeh It IS expensive! I’m spending my kids’ college education fund on it. Oh wait-- I don’t have kids! Only cats…
Retirement plan! Can you rerelease this in 2050?
Our cats will probably like this for the first 10 cans, then hate it like all the other stuff we give them.
Luckily I work with a rescue who will absolutely be able to use these once our little princes turn their noses up at it.
Seriously though - cat food makers need to look into ‘butt flavored’ or ‘trash juice’.
@jtallant also “cardboard box”, “important envelope” and “plastic sack” flavors, given how many of ours like to chew on those.
@jtallant or plastic bag flavor, lol! That would be a hit!
Mine lick or chew any plastic grocery bag they can find, lol!
I don’t have a cat. Are they selling cats on SideDeal?
@Trinityscrew No. But if you provide your address, I’m pretty sure I can arrange for you to get one delivered. Or even two. In fact, two would be easier.
@Trinityscrew I can get you some cats.

I just glanced at the picture and the above ingredients. Didn’t realize it was cat food.
Seriously wondered what people food MEH was trying to foist off on us this time. Shudder. Yuck. ???
@romellex It looked like the lunch menu entrees we used to see at school back in the '60s in Miami.
“No grain, no filler”

@gdorn The claim of “no filler” is probably disingenuous in any event.
