Vega is a good brand, but the “gut health” one has inulin as the second ingredient, so enjoy sharting yourself to death.
That’s how these companies get you. They make their stuff make you fart like a horse for twelve hours so that you think that “everything is working down there,” meanwhile everyone around you gets PTSD.
The “all-in-one” version has reasonable ingredients and should be fine for most people.
@ShotgunX I don’t drink a ton of plant-based protein powder, but the all-in-one is surprisingly drinkable.
It’s still a plant-based protein powder, so you have to set expectations accordingly, but it’s way better than any soy-based protein powder I’ve tried. I had to dilute the Iced Coffee protein+caffeine powder because it was way, way too sweet.
They didn’t over-do it with the fake sweeteners in the chocolate all-in-one and the product is much easier to consume because of it. I’m probably going to buy four more.
@ShotgunX Gut health, it’s more like gut hell. I had inulin in a nutrition bar about 5 hrs ago. Still waiting for the pain to subside so I can eat dinner.
@growyoungagain@ShotgunX Inulin is not good. I’ve gone low carb and in a lot of the products they put that stuff in. I will say, everything is moving along a lot faster, but I’m not enjoying (nor is anyone else) the airy farts.
@ShotgunX Pretty much, but evidently too old to build muscle mass. Walk a few miles a day and use some light weights about 3 times a week.
Pea protein is high in purines resulting in excess uric acid. You have to drink massive amounts of water to wash it out. I’m burning the protein instead of building with it.
Still the same lot as last time. Expiration date is even closer. I’d go for it if it were cheaper. I’ve been enjoying the powders, but I go through it pretty slowly. One serving a day, if even.
@bjango Honestly for things like this I don’t worry too much about expiration date. If stored at a constant moderate temp, I don’t really think they degrade significantly and certainly won’t become “bad” (not like old milk in the fridge). Once opened, then moisture and air gets in and then yes best to keep using it up at a moderate pace.
@bjango The Chocolate is a new batch actually that is best by 12/13/21, whereas the last batch was best by 9/18/21. The Gut Health is the same batch as last time.
I have gotten use to the taste of both. The prebiotic orange doesn’t work as well for “Oops I forgot my Lunch at work so I will make a shake instead”. I guess it is suppose to go with a complete breakfast?
@Not_Bot_Not the chocolate can be a meal replacement because it has a lot of added vitamins. The orange is just a protein boost with added probiotics… prebiotics?
The chocolate stuff is fine, tastes decent, bit gritty but not as bad as some others I’ve tried. If you’re lazy it’s a good option. If you’re not, a better one is blending a good protein powder with fresh fruit and veg. That said I haven’t had any digestive issues like the other commenters. Eat fiber sometimes, guys.
The chocolate stuff is pretty OK and I blend it with PB Fit powder for a choc/PB protein shake for breakfast. The orange ginger stuff? Not so good. I feel like I threw away my $$ on that stuff. Will be throwing it out at expiration date, I think.
@cwolfpack3 … Hmm, seems like you are like me about throwing stuff out. “I don’t want it, and won’t use it, but it hasn’t expired yet. I guess I’ll wait till then so I can throw it out!”
And what if there’s a pandemic and it’s all you have?
@axemurderer@Fuzzalini There’s always that one guy who goes off on the “I never had any issues so that must mean that you’re all unhealthy” rant. Usually a very close associate of the “I had the COVID and I’m completely fine so what are all of you so afraid of?” guy.
lolz, since you (plural) fearmongered about chicory, en masse. i’m sure you each had problems with chicory, though. /s
and no, not just me. me, my gf, and 2 lifting buddies. but i guess the 5 of us just have some uncanny immunity, since this is such an epidemic. or perhaps we were fine because we didn’t read these silly comments prior… the horror!
@axemurderer@Fuzzalini Then I guess you’re either an Übermensch, or you’ve rammed so many drugs, antibiotics, and food preservatives up your asshole that you’ve nuked your gut flora into oblivion. Most of the population reacts strongly to large doses of prebiotic fibers.
Also, you’re being way too modest on the internet. There’s no way that someone who’s the pinnacle of health and virility that the rest of us mud-covered masses should aspire to has just one girlfriend.
and i looked into it and it seems that the only people that should have issues with chicory are those with ibs. so either 90% of meh are already farting like crazy with chronic ibs… or are just lying/parroting bullshit.
and lolz @ “large doses.” a scoop is only 28g and the main ingredient is pea protein. 10g of inulin shouldn’t do shit to healthy people… and there’s probably less than 10g per scoop, anyway.
@axemurderer@Fuzzalini So, what exactly is the end-game argument here? That all these people with this issue should just man up and eat the stuff anyway because IBS is their fault? Or that so many people are lying about this because of some kind of collective, memetic desire to be drama queens in this specific manner for some reason? Or that this is some kind of deep-state conspiracy to neutralize inulin producers, who are the sole remaining bastions of truth and integrity in our illuminati-dominated society? Throw us a bone here, Mr. Six-Pack McFuccboi.
@axemurderer@Fuzzalini I don’t have IBS, and if I eat even half of a single Fiber One bar, I turn into one of those old-timey steam locomotives. What possible motive would I have for lying about this? Did Big Chicory kill my grandma, and hurting their business by claiming their product causes gas is the only way I can get back at them?
Dude, get out of here with your bro science. All fermentation creates gas. You got lucky (if this is even something that can be considered luck) that your particular strains of gut bacteria don’t metabolize this type of fiber, so you don’t get the side effects. Or maybe your rectum is so large and you have so little self awareness that you don’t even notice yourself flap like a deflating air balloon.
From the few posts you’ve made, you sound like the kind of person who grunts and throws weights in the gym, so I’m kind of leaning toward the latter.
@Fuzzalini@ShotgunX " I don’t have IBS, and if I eat even half of a single Fiber One bar, I turn into one of those old-timey steam locomotives. What possible motive would I have for lying about this?"
you tell me, i’m not the one lying on the internet.
Inulin: bad for your gut, and makes you shart. Acacia gum (organic or not) and xanthan gum: can increase intestinal wall permeability, causing “leaky gut.”
Number of other ingredients that have a Dietary Reference Intake, or that your body has any real need for or makes use of: ZERO.
If you want to eat healthy, by all means, do so! But consuming this crazy concoction of chemicals will not help…

NEAT! Still have one of these from the last meh-rethron, which, according to my calculations, will never happen again.
Didn’t use it, but hey, it was nice and bulky and surprised me, so, um yay?
I’ve always wanted to pea protein.
sooooo what’s the argument against blending these with rum?
@alacrity the waste of good (or mediocre, or heck any) rum?
@alacrity @ybmuG
Exercise milkshake
One thing I want in cocktails
It should be chewy
@alacrity don’t waste your tequila on Vega margaritas either.
@growyoungagain nope- there is no way a chocolate or vanilla margarita will work.
@ybmuG hey, it’s the only thing that makes juice cleanses worthwhile
@replicacobra @ybmuG exercise? hell, I’m just trying to make it worth drinking
@alacrity @replicacobra
Seems like a fool’s errand
@alacrity @ybmuG
Make it worth drinking
Make the knife worth being stabbed
Dying worth the death

According to amazon reviews, lead is a problem with this stuff. Meh.
@finalremix Well, lead is an organic material.
Got this, tried it, got gout.
Doc said too much protein, stop it.
Gout is God’s revenge on men for not having babies. Hurts like holy hell.
So they have lots of protein, if you can tolerate it.
Are you active?
@ShotgunX Pretty much, but evidently too old to build muscle mass. Walk a few miles a day and use some light weights about 3 times a week.
Pea protein is high in purines resulting in excess uric acid. You have to drink massive amounts of water to wash it out. I’m burning the protein instead of building with it.
PSA-Ingestion of Flaxseed will make you feel like you are dying, you are’nt so do not go to the Emergency Dept.
@growyoungagain
Hurtling toward death
At one second per second
Sleep is expensive
@growyoungagain @replicacobra
But not to worry
At the end permanent sleep
That you get for free
@growyoungagain What the hell is wrong with your body that flax does that? That’s like the least offensive thing in these
@Telanis Lots of major GI issues. I have a very delicate system. Flaxseed can have a laxative effect for many.
@growyoungagain @pmarin
The rest may not cost
But ceaseless oblivion
No variety
I must say I really hate my bloated gut. But not enough to drink this stuff.
@hchavers If you drink this, I can promise you that you will have a bloated gut.
The farting
Oh my god the farting
/giphy vitameatavegamin
The original Vega.
@growyoungagain
For some reason that is one of the episodes I remember to this day. That, and the chocolate factory one.
@pmarin Lucy and Ethel at the candy factory-Classic!

@troy oops my bad. Boy, I really need to get going on the last order.
@bjango @Not_Bot_Not If I am in favor of prebiotics, am I proprebiotics?
Probably tastes like somebody already passed out their body…
How the hell did I get subscribed to this thread? I blame Mediocrebot and/or whoever still hasn’t fixed his ant problem.
This stuff sucks.
@Telanis Not all fiber is the same.
@Telanis Inulin can really affect some people negatively. Google it. It’s not that we aren’t eating fiber.
@Fuzzalini @Telanis sure, if “some people” have ibs. everyone else should be just fine.
and lolz @ people complaining about this (farts) anyway… regarding protein powder.
Hard pass…Gas!
Holy shit, so incredibly fake sweet. I mehgret my last purchase.
Chicory root/inulin is fantastic at enforcing both mask wearing and social distancing.
The chocolate stuff is pretty OK and I blend it with PB Fit powder for a choc/PB protein shake for breakfast. The orange ginger stuff? Not so good. I feel like I threw away my $$ on that stuff. Will be throwing it out at expiration date, I think.

And what if there’s a pandemic and it’s all you have?
Oh wait…
if all of you guys fart (and apparently, a lot) from one of these, i think it speaks more about your own health (or lack thereof) than these ‘shakes.’
i bought these at a previous meh (and used 1+ jars of each) and i don’t recall any fart onslaughts, ever. ffs.
@axemurderer Inulin can really affect some people negatively. Google it.
@Fuzzalini “some”
but yeah, i’m sure all but 2 of us here are afflicted by this grave condition. /s
i’d bet most of you would drink shakes with/without inulin and not notice a difference/be able to tell which has the dreaded chicory.
i saw some other brainiacs fearmonger about… flax, so… it’s a pretty safe bet.
@axemurderer @Fuzzalini There’s always that one guy who goes off on the “I never had any issues so that must mean that you’re all unhealthy” rant. Usually a very close associate of the “I had the COVID and I’m completely fine so what are all of you so afraid of?” guy.

@Fuzzalini @ShotgunX i’m accusing most of you of lying, that’s all.
it’s statistically unlikely (understatement) that everyone here bitching about inulin has ibs.
@axemurderer @Fuzzalini I don’t have IBS, and if I eat even half of a single Fiber One bar, I turn into one of those old-timey steam locomotives. @MrNews “chemicals”
@axemurderer @MrNews Hey don’t tarnish the good name of Monsanto corp!
@axemurderer @pmarin
As Homer Simpson probably said: “Mmmm- chemicals…”
@axemurderer @MrNews … and they cut off the diagram right before the good parts!
[ew that sounds creepy… yes, a woman is all good parts!]
@pmarin Eh, I’m not sure about the “all good parts” bit. Like, I’m just not very fond of their spleens, for example.
Read the fine print. These products expire in two months. Good luck using it in that time frame.
The orange one sounds yummy. Tired of seeing chocolate and vanilla flavors all of the time.
Have to pass, though, since I have leftovers from a previous order right now.
Tried it. If we had salmon around here, I’d swat them out of the rivers instead.
@werehatrack
OBTW, Gollum might like his salmon as sashemi, but I’ll stick with baked in butter with herbs.
