@TehMaliron 15W, so fast charging for phones but not PD. If it were you can bet they’d be slapping “PD” on every square inch of the packaging. Having said that, not a terrible deal & I may bite to replace my shittier taps that only have dual USB-A 2.1A.
@dvermilion yeah, still decent. I went in for a set, I ran out of the last ones that were on here and have had to use power strips since then and can replace those now.
@dvermilion@phr- i do this, also, but use thick extension cords so the cord doesn’t get so hot,… maybe even catch the house on fire & burn it down!! I don’t know quite enough about electricity, circuits, etc, but do know enuff not to use less expensive, or less thick cords.
@dahobbs9@phr The screws aren’t hard to find; my local hardware store even has them marketed for the purpose of “extended outlet plate screws” or something to that effect.
@yakkoTDI I don’t. I think it reflects badly on the designers, who are still stuck in the past. It makes me question whether their products are also stuck in the past.
@werehatrack “A load of very new stuff”? Really? Old stuff, OK, I can get cheap USB-C to USB-A adapters to keep it going. But new USB-A stuff? I’ll buy someone else’s products. I’m taking the last of my USB-A to USB-C cables down to Goodwill, or maybe ewaste, this week. I dumped the last of my USB-A chargers a couple of years ago.
Nope, but I just had to replace 2 surge-protected power strips after we had a brownout to blackout event due to a wind storm dropping trees on power lines.
This was in line with @werehatrack’s statement that when/after they trip, they are usually toast, i.e., bricked…
Fortunately, both my TV and our Sleep Number bed’s compressor/power unit were left undamaged thanks to the sacrifice of those surge protectors.
Luckily, before the 2nd of these, I had replaced them both and the newer one I used for the TV just required resetting via a power button push to reactivate it.
BTW, my knowing what had happened and having spare replacement surge protectors on hand and readily available really impressed SWMBO.
@cfg83@RICHY531 “Just put a USB LED in the USB outlet and write “surge” on it and you will be good.” THIS needs a buttload more upvotes. Get with it, folks!!!
For anyone wondering: we’ve got a 1940s house and these things are a necessity. One pair of outlets on each wall was standard back then, including in a 16x24ft living room. Also, for some reason they were mounting the ground on top, which makes no sense because the nose should be below the eyes
@Superllama7 Nose above eyes is safer. There is discussion in many places.
OBTW, if your house was built in the '40s and you have grounded outlets at all, then it was probably updated at some point. It wasn’t until the 1960s that they became common in residential wiring, and until well after WWII, they were pretty much just used in business and industrial settings. The fact that they’re mounted with the ground up is evidence that whoever did the conversion was really focused on safety.

This is a shocking deal!
I guessing the charging isn’t PD at this price?
@TehMaliron 3.1A @ 5V USB-C which is around 15W, from what I’m reading

Too bad this doesn’t have the screw in the center that stops it from pulling away from the wall when you unplug something.
@phr DRILL that puppy out
though finding a proper screw might be fun. Or go old school and just find something that Fits and will Reach.
@phr I sometimes just use these with a regular extension cable for those poorly-located wall outlets that don’t get much use.
@dvermilion @phr- i do this, also, but use thick extension cords so the cord doesn’t get so hot,… maybe even catch the house on fire & burn
it down!! I don’t know quite enough about electricity, circuits, etc, but do know enuff not to use less expensive, or less thick cords.

@phr just run a screw through the bottom sockets ground hole and into the outlet ( ͡~ ͜ʖ ͡°)

@mediocrebot @zippyus 1) that’s not John Bigbootes 2) “BigbooTAY!”
@zippyus But that’s Lord John Whorfin. This is John Bigbooté:
Also, because I am a pedant: Lectroids. They are Lectroids.
@dethzord you’re right, i’ve fixed it.

@zippyus What is with that outfit it picked? Ha. A lot more Third Rock than Buckaroo.
3 USB-A ports? Obsolete. Obsolete. Obsolete.
@ellett Since when? I still buy new stuff with USB-A shaped ports.
@ellett There’s a load of very new stuff that comes with a USB A-to-C cable and will not charge with C-to-C.
@yakkoTDI I don’t. I think it reflects badly on the designers, who are still stuck in the past. It makes me question whether their products are also stuck in the past.

@mediocrebot @mehcuda67 DAMN
@dvermilion @mehcuda67 Uh, yeah. If she was real and I was forty years younger, even I would politely ask her if she was interested.
@mehcuda67 @werehatrack
People are so picky these days
Meh… no Surge Protection?!? NO DEAL!!
@RICHY531 Because your original outlet had surge protection?
[And have you ever actually had to reset the surge protection button on such power strips?]
@RICHY531 Just put a USB LED in the USB outlet and write “surge” on it and you will be good.
@rpstrong Most surge-protected devices today are one-and-done with no reset button, and some lack a fault indicator. They just fail to “no worky”.
@RICHY531 @rpstrong
I agree with the former of you.
To the latter:

Fascinating
The movie’s obvious, right? There’s some obscure ones coming up that it’ll be interesting to see guesses on.
@dave That’s Bill and Ted all grown up.
@dave something from the Dumb and Dumber group?

these are pretty mediocre, but quite useful, so in for one set.
