Bought these last time, have installed them and they look great! My neighbors all like them too.
The app is a little clunky but did end up getting them to schedule how I wanted. Mounting them was simple (with some minor accomodations since they wouldn’t seat over the shallow surface junction boxy previous lights were on). Very glad I got them, use them on the garage, front door, back door and deck
BTW, use Wago lever connectors instead of traditional wire nuts for any light fixture or switch install. You’ll be glad you did! Especially when making solid/stranded connections
I’ve bought 4 2 packs of these for the previous price of $50 each. 6 were installed at church and the last two will be installed on my back porch. They work very well and we use a third party app to control them along with many other ‘smart’ lights. Very pleased with them.
@jaybird What sort of smart home app, or platform do you use to tie these in with other lights or devices? And do they actually play fairly nicely? Referring to the Tuya Smartlife stuff, or something different?
Sconce is a funny word. It sounds like something a British person would call a person who stole their sausage roll. "Get back here with my sausage roll, you cheeky sconce! "
@warpedrotors this sausage roll, is it a high quality bakery, still warm, version or more of a supermarket prepackaged only just worth it kind? I suppose we’ll never know. That blighter absconced with it…
Glad people are enjoying these! I also installed one on my back porch and may pick up another set for my front entryway. And no, I don’t care about furthering the cause against light pollution as someone else pointed out as a negative in the last sale
@snapster, long time no talk. I’d be surprised if you have any recollection that we’ve chatted in the past. I have no clue what we chatted about, but I’m certain we had several interactions, none of which ended with me being escorted away by Security, at least so far as I can recall.
Nice little hack. But I take exception to the last of this:
“So there you have it! They’re not just sconces! They can also be lamps!”
I feel compelled to point out that all sconces are lamps, tho not all lamps are sconces. Therefore they were lamps before you did anything.
I’ll also note that SCONCES is apparently the correct plural of SCONCE. I checked as it feels somehow awkward to me.
They cut in insulation on those wires in that cable when they “connected” the 2 sconces together. It’s not good to have exposed copper lol. Probably don’t do that
Highly recommend putting these on a guest network instead of the same Wi-Fi you have your personal computer, phone, etc. on right now. These companies, especially in China, do not have a clue how to secure anything. Default hardcoded passwords, weak security, gaping security holes, you name it.
@aciarlotta This is actually good advice. All my IOT devices are on a separate network and I use a bridge to get them Internet enabled so don’t have to switch WiFi networks to use them. I don’t really care if you can hack my lights or my fans, but one shouldn’t be able to find out what devices I use for streaming or work.
Don’t blindly trust small devices on your WiFi network.
@MehMom something like this would usually be mounted to a wall, under house eaves, so the light would not be shining up into the sky. If it is on an open wall, it probably would be best to put something above it to bounce light back down, and give some additional weather protection.
@MehMom “environmentally bad news”… are we talking water bottles bad or plastic straws bad? Or tanker ship crash bad? Give us some rating on how bad for the environment these are.
I could not get them to make the triangular shape like on the box. When I called tech support they first told me to play with them the second tech says they dont make that scene! Needless to say, I am very dissapointed!

Wtf, Is it Bob Villa night?
@somf69 I was thinking Bob Ross for a second and “Happy little sconces”
Mmm, I love scones.
I should have put on my close-up glasses, nevermind.
/showme Bob Ross painting happy little sconces.
@OnionSoup Did they confuse Bob Ross with Thomas Kincaid?
@annecat it’s definitely not Bob Ross.

@CraigDanger Any experience with this (competing?) product? https://www.homedepot.com/p/IDEAL-In-Sure-2-Port-Lever-Wire-Connector-10-Bag-30-01L22/320628178
@andymand No, but I reckon they’re decent. Anything other than the old twist style

@troy someone brings it up in the comments below…I guess one person really cares about this.
The installation guide in the write goes a long way in selling these things… NOT!
@hchavers It’s just an alternative way to use them instead of mounting them where they’re supposed to go (pre-wired home lighting locations)
@hchavers
They look like the most painful practical-joke binoculars ever.
/giphy practical joke binoculars
@hchavers @stinks Whoa! It’s pro wrestler Shawn Michael from his Baywatch appearance.
But do the include bluetooth speakers?
Then they’re no good to me.

@baqui63 Security approaches…
Do these lights remember their last color and dim level (as set by the app) when turned off/on from a wall switch? If not, what happens in that case?
@gsipe ditto
Maybe a dumb question, but are these dimmable?
@ronnyd Yes, they are dimmable according to their website: https://atomismart.com/helpcylinderwalllight/
They cut in insulation on those wires in that cable when they “connected” the 2 sconces together. It’s not good to have exposed copper lol. Probably don’t do that
China: Yes, yes, buy much IOT devices. Connect to private networks. Our security great! Promise! Buy, buy, buy, connect, connect, connect!

@aciarlotta Oh I am sure they have a clue how to secure things but they don’t because they have been “bought” by the spies.

Uplights are environmentally bad news. Remember light pollution? It’s really a thing.

Tim, I can’t include enough info here to cover the topic, but suggest you Google “light pollution.” It’s serious.
I’m impressed that someone ordered 10 sets.
I could not get them to make the triangular shape like on the box. When I called tech support they first told me to play with them the second tech says they dont make that scene! Needless to say, I am very dissapointed!
