4-4-20 (Mel Tillis lights up day)
11Day 4, it’s the end of the world as we know it…
So…Last night our governor finally got around to issuing a stay at home order for all the citizens of Alabama. thru 4/30/20 Hmmm, that’s when my goat duties end. Wonder if that is a coincidence??
/giphy Nah…
Thankfully it goes into effect at 1700 on Sat (today) so I have to get to the winery where I have a $50 gift certificate before it starts. It’s about 90 minutes from here, and the credit expires on April 5th so it’s now or never.
They are still doing take out meals, as well as casserole-type foods that you can buy and prepare at home, and you can get wine as well. I am thinking maybe go up, get some food and a bottle of wine or 2 and burn thru the $50. On the way back I may stop by a friend’s house and dig up some blueberry bushes from where they are spreading around his plants. Time to replenish the ones that I have by replacing the ones that are dead.
The goal is to go, spend, dig and return to the house (practicing social distancing) and be home before 1700 and the roadblocks go up.
Wish me luck!
Today’s question(s):
Are you confined to your house? And if so… is it by state edict? Self-quarantine? Personal prudence? Court order (stupid ankle bracelet)???

@chienfou is hoarding all of the toilet paper… again.
Gov Parsons just signed Missouri’s SAH executive order Friday.
All the states holding out against stay-at-home orders have Republican governors, and almost all refused the federal Medicare expansion money.
Karma is a bitch that way. My state has the two biggest sycophants in the Senate, Josh Hawley and Roy Blunt, who are so far up Trump’s duodenum that they meet up with Hannity to eat shit sandwiches for lunch.
@mike808 Iowa and the Dakotas are the only holdouts, aren’t they? I wonder if trump calls the governors daily to tell them to don’t do it or else.
Wonder if the constituents will vote them out for endangering the population… probably not.
@mike808 I bet it doesn’t mean anything to you that Ohio was one of the first states to take action, and they have a Republican Governor. I’m also not even sure why it’s important which political party they belong to.
@JnKL They haven’t voted them out for the tax breaks to the 1%, cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, the ACA, forced birthing, cutting education to kill the teacher’s union (and pensions of the mostly women members for a two-fer), keep the population mostly ignorant and too stupid to see the water warming up as their elected politicians make frog soup of their electorate.

@jst1ofknd
precisely my thoughts when I posted that.
I’m in Oklahoma and I don’t pay attention to the news. I know what the state is doing from the wife that has been paying slightly better attention than me. I think we are under some sort of unenforced stay at home thing.
NY here…it’s lock down for us. 4 of my hubby’s coworkers tested positive on Wednesday and he had to be tested on Friday due to shortness of breath and not feeling well. Since I’m Immunocompromised he has to stay out of the house for now. Please everyone take this seriously, it’s honestly no joke here. On March 13th my daughter gave birth to her first child and we were asked to leave the hospital for the safely of her and the baby. She was only allowed to have her husband with her. In Connecticut a 6 week old baby died. Self distance, wash your hands until they bleed ask your neighbors if they need anything if your running to town. Be safe not just for yourselves but for those you love. We can get through this together
Here in our SF Bay Area county, we had our first local case on March 2 (from a traveler returning from China) and first socially contracted case a few days later. After paying attention to what was happening in Washington State, the local consortium of 7 counties pro-actively set up regulatory safety protocols for nursing homes and care facilities, closed the schools, limited large gatherings, and on March 16th issued one of the first Shelter-In-Place orders. So we’ve been tucked away for about 3 weeks now. California issued the state-wide order on the 19th.
It was only a week or less than others, but I’d have to say it made a big difference, as we went from national hotspot to below the national averages on new cases and deaths, and our curve is flattening out. The recommendation for masks will only help. Currently we’re projected to have enough medical resources (except, of course, for ventilators) to handle the peak of the outbreak in a couple weeks.
I’ve never been one to be thankful to the politicos, but these actions, led initially by the SF mayor, have definitely made a diff.
If you’re interested in seeing how the different states are doing in term of projected cases and resources to deall with them, easy to read, daily updated graphic charts of the models are at http://covid19.healthdata.org/
I am “essential” so still working. I am also boring so home unless need a quick run for food. Not much change for me. I am washing my hands more frequently than normal. I am very aware of what I touch or what gets touched at work. I have always been aware of personal space.
Officially we are to stay at home. I have heard there is some enforcement but it seems like lots of people are out doing stuff. I see an increasing number of masks and gloves being worn.
I’m in Ohio, and there is a stay-at-home order until early May. I go out to go to the store or work, and I’ve been washing my hands more often and more thoroughly lately.

Shit, I just got the Mel Tillis lights up reference.
Well played.
Oh yeah…almost FORGOT!!
▪Yes
▪Kinda but the city beat 'em to it
▪Sure
▪I guess we can call it that
▪Not that I’m aware of
@llangley Thanks. I was hoping someone would get it and not be put out by the “making fun of a disability” issue. I know some stuttererers and most of them are the first to joke about it… it just takes them a while.

We’re under stay at home orders since March 13th. Which means I spend most of my waking hours trying to find novel ways of keeping my kids engaged. We’re all gamers, so that helps. But there’s only so many games that a five year old and a twelve year old will play together. We go out for walks, but can’t use the playgrounds, just the parks and trails. They really wanna be rolling around in the dirt and riding bikes with their friends, not stuck hanging out and playing catch with their dad. Mom’s an essential employee at the Children’s Hospital, so they’re stuck with just me 80-90% of the time. It’s great to spend so much time with them, but it’s not easy.
@Nate311 Thankfully our kids were readers so that was always an option. Even with the libraries closed now you can use an e-reader (aka Kindle or Nook etc) and still read whatever you want. If you have any projects to do around the house now is a good time to teach them those skills, as well as routine car stuff like major parts of an internal combustion engine etc. which gives way to learning about assembly lines, aerodynamics, style/color trends, etc, etc, (did I mention we homeschooled our kids??) School doesn’t have to be taught at a desk/table. A simple shop project that they can do would be great as well. One year I made banana hangers with my 11 yr old as Christmas gifts for all the relatives. I know at least 4 are still in use over 25 yrs later.
This may be a dumb question but anyways, what do you people mean when you say you have roadblocks right now? I live in Michigan (right outside Pontiac) and we don’t have road blocks, road tolls or anything like that.
@star2236
You people? What do you mean you people?
j/k It was @chienfou that said it. I think he may have been exaggerating a bit.
@star2236 @therealjrn Yes, I was being presumptive/snarky. OTOH they are a real thing in the Florida Keys.
@chienfou @therealjrn
It’s a northern thing, and how I speak. meaning you people that are talking about the road blocks.
