Bought the 120 pack last time and the majority of the batteries were out of the package and loose inside the box. The manufacturer didn’t put enough glue on the plastic package to keep it attached to the cardboard.
@cengland0 they had to save money since it cost more to recycle 4%. Ended up costing them in the end. You can almost picture the corporate meetings about these batteries…
@cengland0 small price to pay (hahahahaha) for such a bargain. Unless you’re reselling, in which case you have my sympathies. I too received a meh package of rolling, tumbling drums ‘o’ power and am cool with it.
@cengland0 OR … They were stored somewhere very hot that melted the adhesive…and also severely compromised the batteries, which is why Meh has them. That was my thought when I go mine falling apart
@cengland0 I compare generic green beans to name brand all the time. If nothing is different but the sticker on the can I am definitely going with the generic. I guess I should be more specific, is there any measurable, quantifiable difference between this battery and any other alkaline battery.
@Jasonf1984 I don’t know how these Energizer batteries compare to any specific generic but my comment was more geared toward comparing prices of name brand to generic (or other name brands).
If meh had a Canon 1dx mark 2 camera for sale for $5,000, would it be fair to say “But I can get a Nikon - COOLPIX A900 20.0-Megapixel Digital Camera from Bestbuy for $400”? It’s not the same product so you shouldn’t use that as a price comparison.
It would be fair if you could find the same Canon 1dx mark 2 camera elsewhere for less and in stock and from a reputable company.
@cengland0 you are right you can’t compare a regular digital camera to a dslr camera, but I could and should compare a Canon dslr to nikon dslr camera. 2 different brands of alkaline battery are comparable. A alkaline battery and a ni-mh would not be comparable. Maybe energizer batteries have a longer shelf life, maybe Amazon basics have a higher failure rate. That is what I am asking. I don’t pay for brand names or I wouldn’t be on meh. I suspect that Amazon basics and energizer are the exact same battery made at same factory in China. Alkaline batteries have been around for over 100 years I doubt any brand is different. In which case I would be smarter going with the Amazon batteries vs the name brand.
@Jasonf1984 Even within the Energizer brand, there are 3 levels of batteries. Energizer Economy, Energizer Standard, and Energizer Premium.
The specs state, “Longer life than standard alkaline batteries”. I cannot confirm if Amazon Basic is a standard battery or not but the name “Basic” sounds like it is. Probably comparable with the Energizer Economy versions.
Doing a little research, these Energizer batteries are “Energizer’s longest-lasting alkaline battery, Battery Capacity: 1250 mAH.”
The Amazon Basic batteries were tested by someone and the results are:
Disch Rt | Capacity | Runtime | Sample use case
100 mA | 997 mAh | 10 hrs | Low-power LED flashlight
200 mA | 914 mAh | 4.5 hrs | Electronic toy / medium LED flashlight
400 mA | 623 mAh | 1.5 hrs | Motorized toy / bright LED flashlight
Alkaline batteries have a higher mAh rating with a lower discharge rate. The Amazon Basic batteries had a maximum of 997 mAh in the tests.
Edit: Unsure if the guy tested Amazon Basic AA or AAA in his review. It was posted on a AA product but mentions AAA in the review.
@canneddirt… alcaline is French. Al Kaline is a hall of fame baseball player who played his entire 22 year career for the Detroit Tigers…He is still alive and Tuesday will be his 83rd birthday.
@JT954 one of my students (I work at a college in Arkansas) went to the school for the deaf! The kids love the play on words. Wonder how the band feels?
Good timing. Most of the Toshibas meh sold me last time have leaked, leaving me with very few I don’t need a hazmat suit to handle. I need more. Or a hazmat suit. I’d dig that as well.

Not a good deal especially having to wait for however long it takes @Dave to package them up and drive them down to the post office. I can go to Wegmans right now and beat the small pack with Wegmans brand and the large pack with Energisers. Or, feeling a bit sluggish, I can have Amazon deliver Am Basics this afternoon for a penny less per battery. As Meh has written, Eco-whatever hasn’t any meaning so my comparisons are certainly useful.
@Lighter You are comparing the pricing of generic batteries with brand name batteries. In that case, why don’t you buy the dollar store or harbor freight brand batteries for $1 for a 10 pack? You can use a 20% off coupon to make it even cheaper.
@Lighter Wait, there’s more. Clicking the breadcrumb to “Household Supplies” and then Batteries, you can see they do sell them for $11.99 for a 16 pack. The 24 pack still shows unavailable.
That’s 75 cents per battery – much more than Meh is selling them for. Even the generic batteries that they sell are $4.99 for 8 (62 cents each).
@Lighter I have to admit, that is an awesome price. The 24 pack ($3.52) is significantly cheaper than the 16 pack ($11.99). Doesn’t make sense but it is what it is.
My recommendation would be to drive there and buy up all the stock. You could resell it on ebay or craigslist for a huge profit.
@cengland0 I think it is a miss print. That particular store is very sloppy with stock and pricing. I’ll give a look next time I’m there. Won’t be today!
@Lighter Darn it. I just tried to buy 10 packs from Wegmans but they offer no shipping methods. You can get food delivered but not batteries. I made an account with them and everything just to find out the only way to get them is to drive to the physical store.
Even if I was interested in their groceries, they don’t deliver them to Florida.
It always seems like a good deal, and then you factor in shipping. I’ve been pretty satisfied with Amazon Basic batteries. You get 48 AA for $11.87 and of course shipping for Prime members.
@therealjrn isn’t free if you have to pay for them. I’m not a prime member today, can I get those free videos? Nope because they aren’t free. Pay them $99 and then you get free videos. Doesn’t sound right to me.
@cengland0 Right, your math checks out. I phrased it poorly. I meant along with your $99 shipping charge, they would throw in “free” video and music.
When a store is selling a “buy one, get one” I can’t just pick up a free one. I need to buy the one thing first. But, after the initial purchase, I can get a “free” one. Is it really “free”? No.
We could start talking about taxation too. Theoretically, the “free” things are valued and can be taxed. Be sure to consult your tax professional.
These were 48 for 14 bucks on Nov. 28th now they’re 2 cents cheaper per battery today so from now on i don’t buy untill they reappear at a cheaper price geeze Meh at least wait a few months if your gonna lower the price so soon from original sale stupid marketing actually.
@mellowirishgent They were $24 for 120 a couple weeks ago so the price has gone up since then. If you don’t buy when it’s offered the first time, you roll the dice. You don’t know if it will be offered again and you don’t know if the price will be higher or lower.
@chiefslapaho I’ve had more damaged devices from leaking Duracell than any other brand. Got in on the last Energizer Industrial batteries deal here and haven’t had any leaks yet. Neither have any Rayovac, Panasonic or ACDelco from other sources. I did also have some Microcenter OEM and “Endurance” from Advance Auto I think, which leaked, but they were very cheap, not brand name priced.
Anyone else get shortchanged on their batteries? I did not receive my full order and will now be unable to power all of the gadgets in my home. Oh, the humanity!
@annwat I ordered the 48 pack from the earlier sale. I thought I was shortchanged when I went to put them up except then I remembered I had already opened a package the day they arrived.

@duodec ditto, ditto, ditto!
@duodec AAA was yesterday’s jump starter sale.
@mediocrebot However I will say the item description was worthy indeed.
Put. Them. In. The. Refrigerator.
It’s apparently a thing.
@shahnm being the first to make this comment might be as big of a deal as getting a fuko these days
@shahnm According to Energizer’s own Alkaline Handbook, it does make a difference to the shelf life in colder temperatures.
Bought the 120 pack last time and the majority of the batteries were out of the package and loose inside the box. The manufacturer didn’t put enough glue on the plastic package to keep it attached to the cardboard.
@cengland0 Yup !
@cengland0 they had to save money since it cost more to recycle 4%. Ended up costing them in the end. You can almost picture the corporate meetings about these batteries…
@cengland0 Same here. Cheaper last time though. $25 for 120?
@ponagathos they were only $24 for me.
@cengland0 same problem. I opened the shipping box and batteries were scattered everywhere inside.
@cengland0 small price to pay (hahahahaha) for such a bargain. Unless you’re reselling, in which case you have my sympathies. I too received a meh package of rolling, tumbling drums ‘o’ power and am cool with it.
@AmazingChicken Not reselling but I bought two and had the second one shipped to a friend as a gift. It will now be a mediocre surprise.
@cengland0 OR … They were stored somewhere very hot that melted the adhesive…and also severely compromised the batteries, which is why Meh has them. That was my thought when I go mine falling apart
Think I remember reviews on these batteries sucked
@Stallion But they’re ECO batteries! ECO! That means you must buy them to save the Earth! And if you don’t buy them you’re going to destroy the Earth!
@Stallion No, they don’t. I think you might be misremembering. They just recently were sold.
I bought a pack of these years ago and still have not gone through them.
@Poopy I’ve finally gone through the 48 I bought a couple of years ago, so I’m in for one. Do AAAs next, I need those too!
Amazon basics are cheaper or almost the same price depending on if you use subscribe and save. What makes these better?
@Jasonf1984 The Costco Kirkland batteries are an excellent deal.
@debkellogg unfortunately no Costco anywhere near me.
@Jasonf1984 different brand items obviously have different prices. You shouldn’t compare generic green beans with Del Monte brand green beans.
Costco batteries leak in the device…I thought i was crazy seeing it happen to me for the last 3 years until i read the same thing on the 'net…switched to Amy basics, way happier with the results…https://www.consumerreports.org/products/aa-batteries/kirkland-signature-costco-aa-alkaline-269038/overview/

I got the 120 pack last time, none arrived leaking, the test batteries are still working fine.
Triple A’s. That’d be great.
Finally I realize where I got that fetish of asking my girlfriends to dress up in pink spandex…
Will these fit the charger sold yesterday?
Lowe’s has Rayovac 60 Pack AA $12.97 for 3 more days as a special value.
@martycaw 3 more days? Their website says “Save 35% thru 12/24/2017” for me. Either way, good deal so thanks for the heads up!
@Stormchaser My flyer has a 12/14 to12/18 only for this item

Can you get some in AAA @Dave?
That gold Power Ranger is definitely someone I don’t want farting in my general direction!
@Freedom1958 And his father smells of elderberries.
@Freedom1958 …the completist in me wishes you to know his mother was a hamster.
I would not be interested in these (I bought them last time) except I can’t buy them right now. Why does that make them more desirable?
By 8am I’ll be doing Saturday chores so I won’t be here to buy them. Whew.
Not a good deal especially having to wait for however long it takes @Dave to package them up and drive them down to the post office. @cengland0 Since when is Energiser generic?
@Lighter That’s not a name I’m familiar with. They are selling Energizer batteries today.
Anyway, can you provide a link to the Wegmans site that has Energizer Alkaline batteries for 23 cents a battery?
@cengland0 Sure. Wegmans even spells it correctly! https://www.wegmans.com/products/household-essentials/household-supplies/batteries/batteries-alkaline-aa-653320.html
@Lighter Funny that your link shows it’s not available in your area and it doesn’t show the price either.
That is, of course, if you gave me the link to the one in your area.
Edit: Actually, I tried 7 random stores and couldn’t find it available in any of them. It’s vaporware.
@Lighter Wait, there’s more. Clicking the breadcrumb to “Household Supplies” and then Batteries, you can see they do sell them for $11.99 for a 16 pack. The 24 pack still shows unavailable.

Seems like a good deal, but I think I still have the Eveready Gold’s I purchased from here in 2015. I’m with everyone else – AAA is where it’s at.
50 years ago we were able to put a man on the moon but we still can’t make a battery that doesn’t leak! How hard could it be?
@lvmarks I ordered these before–no leaks. I haven’t had any battery leaks–any brand–for years–even the cheapo Dollar Tree Sunbeams.
It always seems like a good deal, and then you factor in shipping. I’ve been pretty satisfied with Amazon Basic batteries. You get 48 AA for $11.87 and of course shipping for Prime members.
@lasdeauna Makes the batteries $11.87 + $99 for prime shipping for a total of $110.87 for 48 batteries.
@cengland0 Yeah but you get some free videos and musics.
@therealjrn isn’t free if you have to pay for them. I’m not a prime member today, can I get those free videos? Nope because they aren’t free. Pay them $99 and then you get free videos. Doesn’t sound right to me.

@cengland0 And that would assume that the only thing you ever buy in a year is a pack of batteries.
Meanwhile in Alabama, Judge Roy Moore gets a new job at the local Shopping Mall.
@Brasssong meh. You’re trying to hard. You should of said: “Meanwhile in Alabama, Judge Roy Moore is handing out free samples at the mall.”
If they always sell out, the price will go up the next time…meh trying to find the sweet spot.
These were 48 for 14 bucks on Nov. 28th now they’re 2 cents cheaper per battery today so from now on i don’t buy untill they reappear at a cheaper price geeze Meh at least wait a few months if your gonna lower the price so soon from original sale stupid marketing actually.
