@finalremix I have some. You don’t have to worry about plugging into a foreign usb plug and getting juice jacked because they only pass power, not data.
And if you forget and grab your phone forgetting to unplug, it doesn’t damage anything.
Oh No! It WILL NOT connect to my
Monster Clarity Fit Open Ear Air Conduction Wireless Headphones
with the special one-off proprietary mag-connector.
So, NO.
@blaineg I foolishly bought the Monster Clarity Fit Open Ear Air Conduction Wireless Headphones with the special one-off proprietary mag-connector a few days AFTER the “meh day offer” (you do know most meh sale items remain available for up to 7 days?). And now the battery does not last long at all.
@pakopako Exactly my experiences as well; don’t fit some cases as they are too large, uni-directional but, so far, quite robust for well over a year now.
@ShotgunX Lacking the power wart, how can these have a power rating? 100W!? must have been a misprint, or hype, It’s just wire…
But I do see how those were advertised as that. previous offer
@ShotgunX losing them and needing a replacement was not the problem. They don’t stay connected to the cable. Cats and kids can eat them. Terrible design.
@caseyloreants@ShotgunX you mean the magnet bits were falling off the cord…? Yeah those are supposed to stay in the device bud. If you were unplugging them all the time, what was the point?
@caseyloreants@ShotgunX@thebigtverberg or was it meant to say the magnets weren’t strong enough? IDK. My experience was appropriately meh - as 1 of the 3 lightning tips didn’t work from the get-go. (I probably should’ve returned them, but didn’t.)
Been down to this rodeo years before, g
reat idea that actually works for a while. But doesn’t take long to misplace one end and then the other PooF!!
Being a 3 pack the useful ends will linger around a little longer.
The connection seems to be pretty good until a few months pass by, then you find yourself playing Wiggle Wiggle to find a position to get a good connection.
It Really sux 2 hours later and your battery is Still dead
Then ya have Blind Rage and say Meh!
They work well. Love the swivel.
Sometimes with cases, the round tip won’t go all the way in and won’t charge.
Also with cases, there is a tight fit and the phone holds on to the tip stronger thsn the magnets. Have to slip a card or fingernail to pry it out.
Lastly, like others noted, the tip and the cable just stop lining up the tiny pins and it doesn’t charge the device.
Another thing thats happened, is the tip plating has worn off and wiggling the tip or swiveling the tip will charge. Or it shifts, the wind blows or you look at it wrong and it stops charging. That’s after a couple of months of daily use.
I bought enoigh for every charger outlet location in thr house and some extras. I got the blue led ones.
Eould still recommend. They’re inexpensive enoigh to get some extras.
If your device requires data connectivity in order to negotiate the charging parameters, these cables may not work, or may operate solely as a USB2.0 cable in capabilities; max 2.4A@5V (12W). I have a Canon monocular that is extremely picky about using a C-to-C cable with full data support or it will not charge at all. I don’t know how many other devices may be so restricted.
The magnetic connections can pick up stray bits of rust or tiny shards of iron or steel that you didn’t know were present, and those particles can short out the cable, potentially producing enough heat to cause injury or even start a fire. (I’ve had one literally start smoking.)
Obviously, these will not provide data transfer. Ergo, they’re useless for downloading photos to the laptop or using your phone as a USB-connected music player in the car. (But maybe you use Bluetooth for that.)
But if you like the idea of reducing the wear and tear on the USB port, then these may be just what you want. Maybe.
These are not the data version. I have the data version and they work quite well for me. I have a scanner that the port feels like it’s about to break and leaving one of these in was a good fix. Pulling the cord sideways to remove it helps to keep the plug in the device, BTW.
My son-in-law gave me one when I was visiting earlier this year. I charge my phone wirelessly. But when I travel, I always seem to forget that the port has to be cleaned before I can connect to the rental car.
The little plug may keep the port clean, we shall see.
My experience with them is that they work great with any device small enough to not have a visible operating system, but are pretty unreliable for anything that does. So great for something like earbuds or a BT keyboard, but terrible for tablets or game systems. I’ll also note that the lightning tips seem to fit quite a bit tighter than others, so much so that it pulled the hardware out of an earbud charging case.
I got these several years ago, and then got the Statik 360 Pro tips on a later deal … and have since thrown away all of the “non-pro” tips and cables. Data connectivity, 100W charging capacity, PD support, and USB A/C on the other end of the cable make the PRO ones permanently useful, and these obsolete.
These are pretty cool, the family got some last time. There’s enough of the various plugs to let everyone in the family keep one. You can leave it plugged into your phone port, and then use this as a magnetic cable instead of losing a little piece all the time
Looking for some for my reg desk emergency pack. And since I don’t ever use Apfel products, I have nothing lightening. these will allow me to give something away that I don’t care if I get back without (for android users) screwing myself
Yea, I got a similar set a year or two ago and love the concept, but found it never worked as expected on my devices (apple mostly, some usb-c and others)
@OnionSoup even though I don’t like them this is weirdly a non-issue. Because the tips are magnetic and you get three with every cable, you end up with a large stock pile of tips that you can just put on the side of your PC or fridge or whatever.
@Star2236 the ends can permanently remain in your devices; all you would need to remember is the cable (and to not stick the exposed magnetic end into a pile of rusted iron shavings)
I had a ‘Pro’ set from a previous Meh sale that the USB-A end also pops off to reveal a USB-C end. They work well, though not for my phone, for the same reason of the circular port being too large to fit in the case. USB-C ports are employed with- PS5 controller on the PC, Cloud headset, and wireless mouse charging cable.
The lightning tip is on a set of airpods for when the regular magnetic charging pad isn’t available, and I have an old e-reader and smart-watch dock that take advantage of the micro ports. They’ve been in use for a little over a year, no flaws so far.
Getting these anyway, though they aren’t the ‘Pro’; they will be used for charging PS5 remotes while they sit in a basket, attached to one of those 4 USB-A on an extension cord deals that also came from Meh. Much better than paying the $27 when the USB-C bit wouldn’t get used for the foreseeable with that setup.
Based on their advertising I would guess unlike the Pro version these - don’t do data, don’t have a USB-C hidden under the USB-A, and don’t have adaptive voltage (hence the 10W limit).
Bring back the Pro!
Might get a pack of these for, as people pointed out, the usefulness for charging in public places. But the voltage limit makes that iffy…
Seriously? Data on the previous version? I really like them for charging and only just lost a tip after a lot of usage. (It’s on the floor of my WFH office somewhere but I’m not scheduled to sweep for another month.) But again, data? Gotta try that.
this has probably already been said but you have three different outputs but your input HAS TO BE USB-A??? i dont own one of these fancy cables, but ive replaced all the usb-a cables in my house for usb-c cus thats what the future will run on.

Shockingly good deal.
@yakkoTDI People are shocked when they find out I’m not a licensed electrician.
@blaineg @yakkoTDI You have to keep a current license.
Are these any good, though?
@finalremix I have some. You don’t have to worry about plugging into a foreign usb plug and getting juice jacked because they only pass power, not data.
And if you forget and grab your phone forgetting to unplug, it doesn’t damage anything.
@finalremix
Nopers- the magnets pulled the wires apart.
@finalremix 10 watts is extremely anemic if you’re charging something modern with a nice charger.
Depending on your device, you may be used to 40-100+ watts.
Oh No! It WILL NOT connect to my
Monster Clarity Fit Open Ear Air Conduction Wireless Headphones
with the special one-off proprietary mag-connector.
So, NO.
@JohnQ118 well then yeah why bother
@JohnQ118 I was sure you were making that product name up. But of course, Monster.
I like the cable; I think I bought six and their all still functional. Two small gripes:
For some of my older phone cases (back when phones were USB-C and under 6oz), the circular plug is too wide to fit through without a good push.
Second, the cable (despite being USB-C with an A adapter) is one directional for data (bi-directional if you’re just charging C to C).
@pakopako Exactly my experiences as well; don’t fit some cases as they are too large, uni-directional but, so far, quite robust for well over a year now.
@pakopako the flared base is an important safety feature
@jouest @pakopako
I understood that reference…
Do note that these are the 10W version, and not the 100W version that were sold about two years ago.
@ShotgunX noted
@ShotgunX Lacking the power wart, how can these have a power rating? 100W!? must have been a misprint, or hype, It’s just wire…
But I do see how those were advertised as that.
previous offer
@rjquillin Additional wire channels inside the cable plus a regulator chip in the tip to support higher wattages, usually.
@rjquillin @ShotgunX i think i wrote about that offer without noticing that it was rated high enough to run my dryer
The tips are terrible and so easy to lose. Do not buy these. I threw all mine away
@caseyloreants You can buy replacement tips, they’re fairly cheap.
@ShotgunX losing them and needing a replacement was not the problem. They don’t stay connected to the cable. Cats and kids can eat them. Terrible design.
@caseyloreants @ShotgunX you mean the magnet bits were falling off the cord…? Yeah those are supposed to stay in the device bud. If you were unplugging them all the time, what was the point?

@2many2no Used an earlier variant of these with my 2017 MBP a few years ago, and yeah. THIS was the MagSafe substitute I’ve needed for that machine.
They work well. Love the swivel.

Tempting, because wire breakage is so constant an aggravation.
Really, the only kink I’ll shame.
@brainmist There is risk of premature disconnection with these, though.

/giphy premature disconnect
These are not bad, but I find the magnet is not strong enough to pull the plug out of phone. Then I am left with getting the tip out.
@hchavers The whole point of magnetic cables is that you leave the connector attached to not damage the port from repeated use.
They don’t work with our phone cases - not deep enough. ,:(
Shit wears out in a few months and won’t charge anymore, don’t waste your money.
@dmnhntr86 people don’t think it be like it is, but it do.
But if you like the idea of reducing the wear and tear on the USB port, then these may be just what you want. Maybe.
@werehatrack Not having data connectivity might actually be a benefit for some people.
No need to use a USB-Condom when charging at the airport/hotel if you can plug the cable straight into the wall and not worrying about being hacked.
These are not the data version. I have the data version and they work quite well for me. I have a scanner that the port feels like it’s about to break and leaving one of these in was a good fix. Pulling the cord sideways to remove it helps to keep the plug in the device, BTW.

The other end being USB-A feels like impending obsolescence.

Got the similar ones here a while back, they didn’t work out for us. SWMBO kept disconnecting the cable almost every time she move a little.
Yea, I got a similar set a year or two ago and love the concept, but found it never worked as expected on my devices (apple mostly, some usb-c and others)
What’s better than a USB cord?
A USB cord with pieces to lose!
@OnionSoup even though I don’t like them this is weirdly a non-issue. Because the tips are magnetic and you get three with every cable, you end up with a large stock pile of tips that you can just put on the side of your PC or fridge or whatever.
Not for me, I’d loose all the end pieces.
@Star2236 the ends can permanently remain in your devices; all you would need to remember is the cable (and to not stick the exposed magnetic end into a pile of rusted iron shavings)
@pakopako
Too much for me to deal with.

Ok, I get why some things like batteries, or liquids won’t ship to Alaska, but these? Seriously? UGH!
I miss the older version. They were great and transferred data. I’d use them in my car for Android Auto.

@Frcal What, you didn’t get the Static dongle-search bot? It only costs $200 extra and it can find metal buttons too!!!
@Frcal I use a Roomba to find small things that I drop on the floor
