@AttyVette Are you Canadian? If not, why would you think of that version of the song rather than the Debbie Boone one, which was a monster hit and was released about the same times as the movie the song was written for?
@PhotoJim I didn't know there was an Anne Murray version of "You Light Up My Life", but Google tells me she and everyone else covered it.
On a drive through Nova Scotia I passed Anne Murray's home town (not far from the Blueberry Capital of Canada). I was guessing that maybe her version got more airplay up there, given the radio content regulation.
"A lantern first, a flashlight second: buy it for the lantern, the flashlight is pretty blah" I am thinking this should have read: "A lantern first, a flashlight second: buy it for the lantern, the flashlight is pretty MEH!"
@liz Nice find, I'd looked around a little and didn't find much out there. Most of the positive reviews mentioned the fact these shipped with batteries to be a big benefit... unfortunately that doesn't say much for the reviewer's flashlight knowledge, or the flashlights for that matter.
@belowi Yep -- I also feel like QVC reviews are really just an indication of how polite these old ladies' family members were at Christmas. That being said, I kind of feel like: "hmmm, this definitely isn't the worst thing grandma has ever given me" is kind of on-brand for meh.
If you only knew the things I sacrifice to be here at midnite. But anyway, no bluetooth? I'd love to buy but still have a few Life-Gear auto light multi-tools I need to find a use for.
Normally I would say, "Wow! Three for $8! Well, hell, that can't be passed up!", but I have so many flashlights... Congratulations Meh, you've found my saturation point on flashlights.
Please sell some cheap lanterns that have, say, at a minimum 300- 400 lumens. 26 lumens is like a tiny candle... Well I guess not really, it is more like 2 candles... but still not all that bright.
In for 3 sets of 3. My road from work to home is very dark. I ever blow a tire these will be useful. And we own 10 acres in the mountains. Also useful there
Looking at the map of who the hell is buying these things and I see Oklahoma is lit up like a nuclear mushroom cloud. It makes me laugh because I went to visit over Thanksgiving and an ice storm knocked out power in the rural area I was at and over Christmas same place/same thing.
@Thumperchick I know, didn't think I needed to clarify the difference of 1 vs. 3, I still have hope in humanity to figure out how to do simple math for themselves.
@sexygoldfish Fuckin' infomercials. They always crack me up... example this latern is great for people who need light. NO SHIT. Give it as a gift, use it as a tool, use it in the dark.. FUCKIN THANKS.
I still watch them my existence is a sad one. But yeah, infomercials, man.
At 26 lumens, these are roughly as bright as those solar powered garden path lights you see in the suburbs. A 300 lumen LED lantern will cost you $15 at Wal-Mart.
I might be the only one who bought a set. But my kids complain when they have to read with a book in bed with a flashlight with new batteries. "It's too bright daddy" Well, these 26 lumens will knock their socks off after I find where they hid the buried treasure!
Lastly, when I find @snapster. I will show him all the useless foxurine he has foisted on me over the last number of years. Damn you @snapster. Damn you (and everyone else here) to hell. Luckily, I am better than everyone here at basket weaving using my brand new 26 lumen flashlights!.
Clarence and Sylvia continued their way into the ravine. The bramble thickened and grabbed at their legs as they descended. All they could hear was the snapping of branches, the insistent whine of mosquitos, and Sylvia calling for Tiffany in an increasingly frantic voice. From the darkness they heard a faint cry – or did they?
We were given one of these as a Christmas present a few years ago. It's not horrible, but it assumed the sad role of becoming that light you keep under the kitchen sink to grab in case there is a power outage and you need something to get you to the better flashlights. It excels at that job.
Eventually my three year old saw it and wanted to use it at night, but the flashlight part is too bright for a kid to use in bed. We took it apart and put a glow-in-the-dark superball in the cavity between the flashlight bulb and the cover, but the light was doomed because of three year olds' inquisitiveness regarding the rubber switch cover that was examined, removed, and somehow immediately lost. The bare and brutally exposed flashlight innards are still going strong in their return to their spot under the sink, though.
Oh, and the lantern LED is amber colored.
TL;DR- A bit too bright for child bedtime use, but great as rewards for kids or under-sink flashlight duty. Thanks meh. In for two.
It's not horrible, but it assumed the sad role of becoming that light you keep under the kitchen sink to grab in case there is a power outage and you need something to get you to the better flashlights. It excels at that job.
I was given one of this at Christmas a couple years ago as one of several items in a gift bag from my staff. It lived in my office for several years. The lantern part was fine, not bright, but small enough to stick into small spaces when working on some plumbing. The bungie cord hanger is actually quite handy; it has two places to connect and great for hanging it up in those tight spaces. The flashlight functions well, just not bright. My lantern didn't flash, only had a yellow "nightlight" mode. But come on, it's less than $3 for a multi-purpose flashlight.
Can't have too many lanterns if you're camping (unless you're backpacking light).
I've got decent lanterns for wide area coverage. These will be great for kids so they can turn on light when the breeze causes a pine tree to creek ominously without blinding the rest of us.
Plus last day of VMP membership since Xmas hurrah. Might as well use it one last time before I cancel it. (until the next deal).
@OnionSoup I bought two sets...four of them for grandkids that like to camp or just run around at night exloring and two to stick in my camping gear. You can't beat that price to be able to encourage outdoor activity with the kids (and myself!).
I am one of those "certified" reviewers on Amazon and got to look at what was is basically an LED light inside a fake plastic light bulb with a USB power cable. I bought two more. Why? I use them with those little USB power banks that look like lipstick cases AND my big Duracell one I got from Meh. Hours and hours of light to wait out the outage.
If everyone lit just one little lantern, what a bright sale this would be. BTW, what one-star doofus claimed you can't use rechargeable cells in these?
My first Meh purchase, after following them for a year for the humor. The humor is free, these lanterns only $8! I hope you're paying your writer enough!

Bright deal
@Stallion how's that for timing .. Both said similar things at the exactly same time :)
@AttyVette GMTA:)
Bright idea
No Purple one either
@rileyper
Boooooo!!!!!
Bright package
@CrossIT that's the brightest quip ya got?
So do the batteries fail rapidly and the light is lost forever?
@thismyusername Of course they do, and thanks a lot for that, goat...
@thismyusername - You got the one that worked??
@KDemo haha nope...
Going to hide this one under a bushel.
@MehnofLaMehncha
I'm gonna let it shine
Looks like a mini vitamix.
@MehnofLaMehncha And since this is meh.com you might even get a vitamix blender cup instead of a lantern.
@einrad Meh.
Pun related to light, flashlights, or batteries.
@awk Humorous retort
Neckbeard comment to show I have no sense of humor.
@awk very late joke that has already been used above.
@awk Non-sequitur showing that I didn't read anything
@awk Long and boring explanation of the joke directed at a sarcastic response, because I totally missed the sarcasm.
@awk Generic insult with specious racial undertones
@ManBehindPlan Outraged overblown reaction to undertones.
@awk Accusation of trolling behavior
@awk Awkard, slightly funny comment trying to lighten the conversation in a desparate attempt to fit in
@awk vaguely relevant meme
code word that won't actually get anyone anything.
@Thumperchick @awk @liz Tangental comparison to NSDAP, fulfilling Godwin's Law
"Flash" light sale I guess -- sung to the words of the song .(you needed me)..."You light up my life... " by Anne Murray --
@AttyVette Are you Canadian? If not, why would you think of that version of the song rather than the Debbie Boone one, which was a monster hit and was released about the same times as the movie the song was written for?
@craigthom I'm Canadian and it's Debby Boone's version that I think of. Anne Murray was all about Snowbird.
@PhotoJim I didn't know there was an Anne Murray version of "You Light Up My Life", but Google tells me she and everyone else covered it.

Any glowing reviews?
Hm. Sort of wish meh would do some sort of review if reviews are scarce.
Could be bad for business possibly. Oh well

@Skylord123
Flashlight Friday? Is that a thing?
@Mehrocco_Mole I sure hope so, I'll buy more if they keep that up :)
@Mehrocco_Mole That would not be good for me. I have a flashlight obsession!
Is this the Manufacturer's web site?
@webender Sure looks like it is.... Good catch.
"A lantern first, a flashlight second: buy it for the lantern, the flashlight is pretty blah"
I am thinking this should have read:
"A lantern first, a flashlight second: buy it for the lantern, the flashlight is pretty MEH!"
Wow, a lantern with 26 whole lumens... Hope you don't need to be able to see much.
@Fen_Star But you have three! The power of 78 lumehns all to yourself. That's how that works right?
I found this price comparison. $19.97 + $5.00 shipping at QVC. 4.5 stars. Hmmm.
@liz great find. Wonder if these have the little gift boxes.
@ceagee Yep.
@liz Nice find, I'd looked around a little and didn't find much out there. Most of the positive reviews mentioned the fact these shipped with batteries to be a big benefit... unfortunately that doesn't say much for the reviewer's flashlight knowledge, or the flashlights for that matter.

Normally I would say, "Wow! Three for $8! Well, hell, that can't be passed up!", but I have so many flashlights... Congratulations Meh, you've found my saturation point on flashlights.
@Tin_Foil If only Meh would find my saturation point on rechargeable power packs.
@heartny I "need" a bunch more that are 10,000 mAh or more. They can power a Raspberry Pi for more than 8 hours, or an Arduino for days.
@Tin_Foil Hear, hear! Well spoken, Bruce!
@jasontoon Do they find the cat? Do they fall in love with each other? Do they have enough batteries? And what about Naomi?
Please sell some cheap lanterns that have, say, at a minimum 300- 400 lumens. 26 lumens is like a tiny candle... Well I guess not really, it is more like 2 candles... but still not all that bright.

@mtinks88 That's 13.5 pounds of not very bright lanterns! But I guess if you do get lost in your woods, you could drop them like breadcrumbs.
Looking at the map of who the hell is buying these things and I see Oklahoma is lit up like a nuclear mushroom cloud. It makes me laugh because I went to visit over Thanksgiving and an ice storm knocked out power in the rural area I was at and over Christmas same place/same thing.
$9.99 = http://www.farmandfleet.com/m/products/808812-atak-lighting-multi-func-lantern-flashlight.html
@opiemeh for 1, it looks like. meh is selling them as a 3 pack.
@Thumperchick I know, didn't think I needed to clarify the difference of 1 vs. 3, I still have hope in humanity to figure out how to do simple math for themselves.
For a camping lantern the low lumen output is just right. But smaller and without the flashlight would have been my preference.
Great story. Reads like it was written by the guy Frank Underwood hired to convince America that America Works works.
I like that batteries are included. But, if they don't work, does that mean there's no charge?
@lskeele1 Just get some NiMeh rechargables.

@gossipninja but it's Friday!

@wronkerville - I just looked up fox urine, it looks pretty useful!

Great new Three For Th....riday... deal!
I gotta say, I loved the writeup. I wasn't sure where it was going at first, but it ended up being rather sweet and touching. Good job!
@Bandrik yeah, I was sure cat lady was going to devoured by her brood as soon as the power was out. Nocturnal monsters.
@pajamma You need to sing more Soft Kitty
Thank you for the writeup. It reminds me of the old home.woot saga of Lesley, Brant, Sylvia, and Raoul.
For reference:

@lumpthar God, I miss that little soap opera. And the kids.woot family, too.

If I'm lost in the woods at night, would this LED me home safely? Sure it would, just go straight fer 'bout a mile lanTERN left!!
applause
@invalidmicah cool story. Very illuminating.
PLOT TWIST!
Tiffany is not a cat. She is Sylvia's sister (who scares easily, and is delicate).

Hey MEH! Yeah you! How about some of these crappy lanterns at the same price as the crappy flashlights you've got on today? (Color mix is up to you.)

No Georgia Red. . . for that alone, meh.
Ramsey Street = neighbours

Got these today (yay!), but batteries in one are dead (boo!).
Bought these and they arrived thursday - 2 are broken...
