@SoftAsFur- No, no, no, you put one in the living room, one in the bedroom & one in the solarium(?) {whatever the hell that is} or bathroom! If you put them in the frige you couldn’t use them & they may need defrosting in the microwave to Nuke’um!!
I use my Pixel 3 with the last 5W charger pads deal Meh had, and it’s great. Certainly not as fast as the regular adapter but much more than sufficient for overnight or setting on your desk while you use a computer etc.
Good price, if only because most Qi chargers don’t come with the AC adapters and expect you to supply your own.
Is anyone an expert on which Qi charging standards are compatible with what devices? I think Samsung fast charge means Apple only gets 5W, but I don’t know if , say, a Pixel will accept the fast charge or not. (Edit: @harveydanger has me covered above. No fast chargey on Pixel 3 means I’m out.)
@adamselby Thanks. I’m not going in for their stand anytime soon. I was hoping this might be an upgrade over my current pads for the iPhone X or the Pixel 3, but looks like it’s not.
@r0xor you could get yourself one of these here wireless micro USB jacks to convert the wireless power back into wired power for your phone.
If you wanted to expand that setup, you could put together a whole thing where some dominoes fall into a ball which rides on a rail then knocks over a cup that fills a bucket that releases a hammer that swings over and turns on the power for the wireless wired charger setup.
@r0xor Nothing proprietary looking about that AC adapter. Got a source? Looks like a regular old 2.1x5.5mm plug used on just about everything these days.
Anyone know if these work if your phone/case has a metal plate in it? Some (or maybe all) of these charges warn against using them with those metal plates you use for magnetic car vent phone holders.
@jsh139 Metal plates specifically defeat wireless charging. No charger will, so you have to make the choice between magnetic mounting and magic charging.
@jsh139 unique solution: use an otterbox universe case. I use the plastic plate that came with it to glue on a slab of metal. Then you can slide the case on and off the “car” universe accessory. Works pretty well.
@jsh139 if you only have half of the back taken up by mag metal it should charge fine. …does for me. Just makes finding the maG-spot a little tricky sometimes ¯_(ツ)_/¯ worth it
Pros) comes with AC adapter
Cons) unknown if it supports “fast” wireless charging for iPhone 8/8+/X/XS/Max/XR (7.5W)
Wireless Qi chargers need to specifically state that it has the 7.5W Qi power profile for Apple’s “fast” wireless charging. Otherwise it will just default to the lowest profile (5W)
Something tells me that since this was released during CES 2016 that would be a no…
More importantly, what if I’m 40 and I have a Pop Socket on my phone? What does that even say about me? Should I be embarrassed about this? Or is this squarely in the realm of dad jokes, straight-legged jeans, and an obliviousness to popular music trends - stuff I should be embarrassed about but no one cares to notice because I’m too old to be relevant?
@johninmpls You should indeed be embarrassed by sporting a pop socket on your phone. Just get a damn phone with a bezel or a case so you don’t keep activating shit at the periphery of the display. Also if you’re 40 you have at least two excuses to go retro. I’d go for an old-school bezel. This whole bezel-less design trend is ridiculous; you can’t use your phone properly while holding it unless you fit that paper-thin (and flexible) expensive gadget with a fat case or just plain silly pop socket.
@PocketBrain My phone has a bezel. And a case. And a Pop Socket, which allows me to hold the pone one-handed without resting it on a finger, which eventually causes wrist pain if you do it enough minutes in the day. It may seem silly, but it’s a useful tool.
@johninmpls the popsocket will prevent direct contact from being made, thus preventing charging from occurring. You could take off the case(with the popsocket) every time you charge the phone, but that would be hassle and defeat the purpose of having a wireless charger.
This thing clicks like crazy and gets hot af… The whole back of my phone was ridiculously warm. I have other wireless chargers and none of them produce any heat…
@Tronne Or noise. My Belkin wireless charger is silent. The Belkin does get a bit warm; it’s a battery doing fast charging, so I don’t think about it at all. I was just surprised at the loud clicking.
My first one of the three doesn’t make any noise and charges LG G7 quickly but yeah, the phone and the charger get quite warm, almost hot. My other wireless charges don’t do this. Will open another one and see what happens.
@soopabox I have to try my other ones too. The one I took out has a clicking sound that is surprisingly audible. I didn’t plan on using these in my bedroom, so I’m able to live with it, but I’m also very surprised. Mine didn’t seem to get too hot, but I do expect a bit of heat.

“Built-in LED glows while in use”
Well why else would it be there?!?
@shahnm if it glows when not in use, this possibly indicates a malfunction, or a truly wireless power miracle!
@shahnm Night light?
Should I put these in the fridge?
@SoftAsFur Microwave.
@SoftAsFur
@SoftAsFur- No, no, no, you put one in the living room, one in the bedroom & one in the solarium(?) {whatever the hell that is} or bathroom! If you put them in the frige you couldn’t use them & they may need defrosting in the microwave to Nuke’um!!
Note: this will not support rapid wireless charging on the Pixel 3, because that only works on Google approved chargers.
https://www.theverge.com/circuitbreaker/2018/10/23/18016492/google-pixel-3-fast-wireless-charging-approved-chargers-restriction-qi
I got Google’s own stand at a discount and while it’s worth the $30 I paid, it certainly ain’t worth $80.
@harveydanger insert comment about how Apple is the worst here
I use my Pixel 3 with the last 5W charger pads deal Meh had, and it’s great. Certainly not as fast as the regular adapter but much more than sufficient for overnight or setting on your desk while you use a computer etc.
Good price, if only because most Qi chargers don’t come with the AC adapters and expect you to supply your own.

@djslack 1st-gen iPhones with Qi (iPhone 8/X) did 7.5W and I think the 2nd-gen ones can do 10W.
Pixel won’t, except from Google “Certified” chargers. Last I looked, there are only two of those and one is Google’s $80 Pixel stand thing.
@adamselby Thanks. I’m not going in for their stand anytime soon. I was hoping this might be an upgrade over my current pads for the iPhone X or the Pixel 3, but looks like it’s not.
Good timing. Apple just released a Qi-compatible iPhone case.
Oh, hell. I’d order one of these, possibly even two, but THREE? Meh keeps lumping things together in silly bunches. Poop.
@gertiestn If you hate three, you could also get six or nine
/giphy resplendent-creepy-spring
Hopefully these aren’t horrible.
“With 3, you can put one in the living room, one in the bedroom, and one in the solarium.”
I’d hazard a guest that most phone users would also put their phones down when in the loo. I’d go with that over the solarium, most days.
@phendrick About that… https://www.themarketingscope.com/how-many-people-check-their-smartphone-in-the-bathroom/
@Bretterson I
standsit corrected. Thanks for the interesting link.So are these QI only? Do they have a USB output for plebs like me with Nokia 3310?
Edit - appears that way. Not only that but they use proprietary charger. That’s a no from me
@r0xor worst unboxing video ever??
@ilovereality @r0xor It’s got my vote. (Also, replies to comments are fairly lame.)
@r0xor why would you want USB output on a wireless charger? That kind of defeats the point, no?
@r0xor Nothing proprietary looking about that AC adapter. Got a source? Looks like a regular old 2.1x5.5mm plug used on just about everything these days.
@djslack Rube Goldberg ftw
I won’t need one in my solarium. I’ll let the butler have it in his room under the stairs.
/giphy magnanimous
How long is the cable??
@wilymon you can see it in the worst unboxing video posted above… Looks like average ac adapter cable length (I know that’s not super helpful).
@wilymon i just set up a few and they’re … i’m going to say maybe 6’ / 2m ?
This definitely isn’t a face pop
If I stack these, Will they charge three times as fast?
It depends, @Bumplepimp. Where were you going to stack them into?

Anyone know if this is one of the rare Qi chargers that works with an Apple Watch? Asking for a friend.
/giphy apple watches are pretentious
@stinks Nope – we just tested and these don’t charge apple watches. But they charge iPhones just fine!
@troy Dang. Thank for checking!

These are SO AWESOME they’re being clearanced in large batches on a DaD site!

@djslack That’s extremely annoying

@johninmpls 66 years & popsocket

These things, uh…they really do make a noise, don’t they? Like a little just-quiet-enough-to-drive-you-crazy cicada.
@gracefulfailure they definitely are not silent charging. will not be useful as a bedroom charger, but if there’s some way to
