@awk@brainmist@Kyeh I was equally impressed by the correct digits. And the appropriate use of the chopsticks, as compared to the three sticks used by the penguins recently.
@mbimeh@ponagathos Same here. My ears tolerate silver pretty well. And gold, probably, but it’s not my thing.
I actually prefer manufactured bling. Let’s normalize NOT valuing things more because people, especially kids, had to go to ridiculous, dangerous risk to get them. I’m basically a magpie: I like sparkle, and honestly? I like it better if we made it cheaply by being clever.
@brainmist@mbimeh@ponagathos I did a Google image search & found the original seller; unfortunately, their listing doesn’t give that info, either, but the original price was $60, and a listing came up from MorningSave, where they’re selling it for $19.99. I’m guessing something being sold at $60 would probably use hypoallergenic posts, but if not, maybe you could give them to a non-allergic friend or relative…? Or, I’ve heard some people can get away with painting the posts with clear nail polish, but I’m sure that wouldn’t work with a severe allergy, just minor irritation.
@brainmist@mbimeh@ponagathos Oops, the MorningSave link changed to the image above, but i can confirm they did mention that original company name in their listing, so it’s definitely the same item.
@werehatrack I’m finding it hard to believe I just ordered 3 sets!
I justified it by telling myself that these will be cute stocking stuffers for next year, and that I’m ahead of the game by starting my Christmas shopping extra early!

@IndifferentDude This woman would rather receive a set of genuine Vice Grips than jewelry that she didn’t pick herself, and as for the two wild and crazy guys, alligators are a little in short supply here, but Louisiana is not that far away.
I am in the camp that holds that it is difficult to have too many pairs of vice grips. Screwdrivers, yes. Hammers, maybe. Crappy substandard combination end wrenches, oh hell yes, I’ve actually chucked some of those in the metal recycling bucket. Crappy, misdesigned attempts to copy good special tools- don’t even get me started. But genuine honest to god made by Irwin vice grips? Get me the weird ones if you must, but even the ordinary ones are welcome, because you never know when you have to clamp down something using a half a dozen pairs.
And if that doesn’t sound like female arts and crafts, well, you just don’t know me very well. My range extends to building high performance engines. I haven’t done it in a while, but the skills are still there, even though some of them are obsolete. I used to be able to make a pair of Weber carburetors sing. Hell, I was even the one who came up with a solution for one of the long-standing problems with the old DCNF series carbs. And it was so simple. Just add two short pieces of brass tubing that you could get at a hobby shop. Simple, obvious, and damn effective. That was back in the '70s. Ancient history. I would probably have fun building one of the new engines, but it’s not on the menu.
@IndifferentDude@werehatrack Welp. Color me impressed and also wishing we were neighbors, because you sound project-ready, and whew! that has been in sore absence amongst many of my friends!
(I am also rusty, but lean towards home projects like plumbing, tiling, and basic electrical.)
@werehatrack I share your same affection for true [branded] Channellock pliers! In all sorts of sizes and goofy jaw shapes. I have a “V-Jaw” that I have probably used less than a dozen times but still fun to have in the armamentarium. And the 20-inch BIGAZZ is just impressive to pull from the toolbox.
@JWhirly Channellock is really good stuff, particularly given the reasonable price. I like Klein for certain things, but otherwise, if Channellock makes what I’m looking for, I’ll take it.
@somf69
There is a slight difference in the colors that refract from a CZ versus a diamond (regardless whether the diamond is natural or lab grown), but generally only experts or an avid amateur can tell the difference.
Also, and I’m going off memories that are 40 years old so don’t quote me, but I think CZ has a hardness of around 9.5 while diamonds are a hardness of 10.
But all in all, the differences are small, & unless you appraise it people won’t see the difference.
Oh, and diamonds have a MUCH bigger PR department & hype surrounding them, thanks to the virtual monopoly DeBeers has on them.
@mbimeh@somf69 My wife worked in jewelry for a while (and also liked diamonds) and we had a little diamond tester that would distinguish a real diamond from a CZ. Not sure how it worked but it was pretty small and inexpensive. This was a long time ago so I’m not sure how well those really worked, or how they would handle lab-created (didn’t exist at the time) and as I understand it lab-created have the principal flaw of being just like natural diamonds but too perfect.
/showme an anthropomorphic Cubic Zirconia Necklace with Matching Earrings eating a bowl of instant noodles
@awk Kind of impressive…
@awk @Kyeh It added bracelets too… and has an appropriate number of fingers.
And appropriate ramen-slurping countenance. I quite like this.
@awk @brainmist Yeah! Better fingers than the more realistic looking people, usually.
@awk @brainmist @Kyeh I was equally impressed by the correct digits. And the appropriate use of the chopsticks, as compared to the three sticks used by the penguins recently.
Are the earrings, especially the posts, also sterling silver?
I’d be buying them for someone with severe metal allergies.
@mbimeh Wondering the same for the same reason.
@mbimeh @ponagathos Same here. My ears tolerate silver pretty well. And gold, probably, but it’s not my thing.

@mbimeh The earrings appear to be stamped “925”, indicating 92.5% silver (“sterling silver”).
@ircon96
Thank you.
I’m finding it hard to believe that I just ordered jewelry from Meh.
@werehatrack Lookit, it’s shiny and pretty, probably cheaper than you’d find it elsewhere, and the silver wards off werewo-
Um.
Wait.
As a werehatrack, can you even wear silver?
@werehatrack I’m finding it hard to believe I just ordered 3 sets!
I justified it by telling myself that these will be cute stocking stuffers for next year, and that I’m ahead of the game by starting my Christmas shopping extra early!
@k4evryng @werehatrack I’m finding it completely in character that I never even briefly considered ordering any, as a gift or otherwise!
@brainmist Silver doesn’t bother me, I think that’s just an issue specific to werewolves and werepenguins.
@werehatrack
Hey, it’s an insanely good deal.
Are these “real” cubic zirconia? Or that knock off crap. When I dump big cash like this I just have to know!!
@bugger The guy behind the 7-11 last night said for sure they were “real.”
No pearl necklace?
@yakkoTDI That’s okay, squirt, I’m sure you’ll get a Valentine next year!
More diamondinium, set in real silveresque, paid for with moneyolio!! All that glitters is not gold…
@MrNews And much that is gold does not glitter.

To heck with diamonds … real, fake or grown! Give your woman something she REALLY WANTS fellas!!

Lab grown or this?

I would be seriously tempted if the settings and chain were gold, but not the cheap, electroplated gold.
Put it in my IRK, please.
@phelmurh Sorry, box will be too full after all the Trackrs.

@TK4TWO1 Health Advisory: do not eat the Trackrs you got in your IRK.
@pmarin @TK4TWO1 This too shall pass.
Hopefully.
