@ACraigL Voted! I’m shocked, though - once again, it seems to me that the “Pup Actually” Snoopy and Woodstock shirt is just asking to get slapped with a copyright violation suit! I like it, but geez.

@Kyeh I know, I know. Woot used to be very careful about things like that, but they have relaxed to the point where it actually has become frustrating to many of the older artists.

@ACraigL Has anyone ever gotten into legal trouble for it?

@Kyeh No individual as far as I know. Usually it comes down a cease and desist from the copyright owners and the shirts are simply removed from the catalog. I recall a few years ago there was a pretty wide wash of Lord of the Rings designs (parody or not) and several dozen were taken out of print at woot.

But it’s been a good long while since I’ve seen anything like that happen there.

@Kyeh Thanks so much! The disco owl was going to be on black, but then last minute I decided I liked purple more (though probably not as popular a color).
I do love cats, but sometimes I make non-cat designs too

The owl is my favorite of the three!
And I think it looks way cooler on purple than it would have on black.

@jasneko I just saw that a cat shirt won the last derby, so there’s hope! Also, where do they show the winners when each week’s derby ends - is there a reveal page, or do they just show up for sale?
And finally - I see that this week is one of those “vote-to-unlock-a-discounted-price” weeks.

@Kyeh Hoping!! The winners show up as the featured shirt of the day after the derby ends, each spot having it’s own day (or at least this is how it used to work?).
How often do they do those “vote to unlock” themes? It’s a little over halfway there…

@jasneko I don’t know how often those votes happen; @ACraigL usually lets us know when they’re happening so maybe he knows.

You can view any previous derby by adding the archive ID. Every derby is numbered:

So if you go the previous number, like so:

It will will display the ending tallies. Just remember to sort by votes as that is not the default view in this case.

Shirt-O-Meter derbies are a little random but they usually show up in conjunction with other sales and marketing stunts. Like it might be part of the President’s Week Sale shenanigans. We (the artists) don’t know that these are coming either, so it’s just as much a surprise to us as it is to everyone else.

@jasneko @Kyeh They pre-announced the winners (third place is running today) and unfortunately, Jas didn’t place. She’ll likely be in the $10 group sale tomorrow though!

@Kyeh @narfcake Thank you! Sadly though it came in 3rd, it did not print or get the 3rd place spot due to my sending in the art files by email (before the end of the derby) instead of through the portal. It was a big shock/ disappointment!

Yes I was considering mediocritee, though I’d have to make a design pair for it.

@jasneko @narfcake Well, I have no doubt you could make a good complement to that design! So is it a new thing that you have to submit the design through a portal rather than email? Seems so harsh that they wouldn’t give you the chance to just do that once you’d won.

You have some great beer shirts, I’m surprised more of them haven’t won. But again I’m partial to your humor. You should make a beer one that when you read it out loud, it says something different. If that makes sense. I have it in my head but can’t explain it well. Oh and voted

@Kyeh @Star2236 Nope! But that would be a fun project. I feel like beer parodies are a pretty common thing though, so it’s certainly not a specialty skill. I just really like doing them.

@ACraigL @Kyeh @Spiritgreen In the past, designs that got the same number of votes would all place on the same day, but having since moved to a votes + editors based system, nothing is firm anymore.
