@fuzzmanmatt well you do need ice unless it is winter in which case just leave the bag open and bingo. Frozen cans. Oh wait the goal isn’t to freeze the cans into ice.
@fuzzmanmatt 5L of insulation, 5L of ice, a few liters lost to the roll top is my guess. The 20L is probably the shell fully open and unrolled, estimated by asking mediocrebot what the volume looks like from a photo or holding it up next to another backpack and looking at that label.
People will have zero clue there are beverages in there, unless they read the bag! I guess BAR is the symbol for “No beverages in this blue sack! At least if it was red it could have played into a Santa theme I mean, Christmas is only 344 days away!! Better stop shopping now!

BRR! IT’S COLD IN HERE! THERE MUST BE SOME MEH IN THE ATMOSPHERE, I SAID BRR! IT’S COLD IN HERE, THERE MUST BE SOME MEH IN THE ATMOSPHERE! OH EE, OH EE, OH EE…ice, ice, ice.
@koils I meant to say I use plastic ice packs “instead” of ice. It would seem to me that it would work fine; I was just wondering if anyone else used ice packs in these instead of using ice.
Reviews say strap are weak points. I bought some to make them into go bags. Didn’t realize how heavy and how much space the insulation takes up. Not sure I’ll ever use them.
@qazxto so you do own this product? What bags were you planning on them fitting in? Not sure I understand, but would like to hear more of your thoughts on them. Thanks.
@Commonwealth109 I wanted a water proof light weight bag to stuff things like money and documents in, in the event of some kind of evacuation. I researched poorly, the insulation on this thing makes it pretty thick and while I haven’t tested it doesn’t seem like enough rolls of the top to make it waterproof.
Ultimately, it was my poor research of what I was looking for and what I got. These things could be great for throwing a few drinks and snack in and some ice. Reinforce the straps and you’re good to go.
@Commonwealth109 also below someone mentioned you can get insulated bags from Costco or supermarkets that fit more space. This is true. Ultimately I think this would be good if you just didn’t want to lug something with your hands. Kayaking?
@werehatrack Reasons why I could see using these is
if you only had one day’s use and there is a short hike to the campground where a cooler with wheels wouldn’t work due to the obstacles on the trail.
You wanted to store them in the car (where they’d take up less space than a cooler) to put cold/frozen groceries in on your way home from the grocery store when it is summer. In this case you’d skip the ice.
@Kidsandliz@werehatrack I have a wheeled backpack cooler but the wheels are usable very little for our purposes, which are mostly taking stuff to the beach. To be effective on the sand you need wheels so large you wouldn’t want them on a backpack. It’s easier to put stuff in a dedicated beach cart, with the backpack functionality useful for all the before and after the cart usage.
@Kidsandliz For trips home from the grocery store with cold stuff, HEB sells a spacious insulated bag for five bucks. We have a couple of them, and they work well.
We use a version of this from IceMule and it’s pretty decent in the right applications. All day long at the ballpark in 100° being opened every half hour? No.
Walk to the beach with three rounds of slim cans for 4 people? Perfect. The straps on the ice mule look better than this but otherwise they look really similar.

Owl my god these are baggy.
I don’t have enough chili to need a chili backpack
@phendrick I can help with that. Do you like it spicy?
@yakkoTDI depends on what “it” is
@phendrick The chili you pervert.
Doesn’t come with ice?

Holds 18 cans. How big are these cans? 18 12oz cans is only 6.3 liters. Where did the other 13.7 liters go?

@bigjl98 I mean…to be fair, it’s BRR, not BAR, but yeah.
@bigjl98 #1 bag for carrying your Browning Automatic Rifle.
Yeah I totally read it as BAR too.
@bigjl98 @jkrlvgn @mcanavino I read it as BRA BAG.
@bigjl98 @jkrlvgn @mcanavino @pmarin
BRR as in “brrrr, it’s cold”

@pmarin BRA BAG was my first decoding, too. Didn’t seem like a very useful design for one.
I don’t think I am cool enough for these.
Another solution in search of a problem.
Finally, a way to cool my owl on the go.
I’m am shocked. Just shocked. What the hell does meh think it is doing selling something with 4.3 stars on the “Big Bully Brother” site?
@Kidsandliz Want to bet that these are somewhat less waterproof than usual?
I like to use plastic ice packs over just ice. Will these cool just as well as ice and keep the cans and inside drier?
@koils placing plastic ice packs over ice will keep both the ice packs and the ice cooler
@koils These are insulated coolers, not ice packs.
@koils I meant to say I use plastic ice packs “instead” of ice. It would seem to me that it would work fine; I was just wondering if anyone else used ice packs in these instead of using ice.

These puns were offensive. “Inhalable rods”? Has anyone ever called cigarettes this, ever?
@gageaa75 Guess these chill backpacks aren’t for you.
Great…two giant ice packs just in time for February.
There is a reason why so many coolers have wheels and a long handle. This is a crummy solution in search of a gullible person with a “problem”.

@werehatrack I have some insulated zipper stores flat bags myself.

If I didn’t already have one I might go for this.
@ellebrew mules are known to be better at hauling than owls so the strap observation is probably spot (spotted? I’ll show myself out) on.
