@troy Didnt even realize there was a mehrathon until 1158 but then wanted to say something snarky exactly at midnight and be first and this is a literal fan so I though why not?
@dagirlgenius I was coming to ask the same question. My guess is that nobody purchased them at that price. Maybe they listed them there at that price just to sell them cheaper on sites like MEH.
@dagirlgenius I know. These seem like they’d be $39.99 retail. I can’t figure out what makes them so expensive as likely these were likely in the USA prior to the tariff fiasco.
My understanding of Ring lights is for when you want good lighting for a selfie or a self record with a webcam. Is this supposed to be for when you want to record yourself with your hair billowing in the wind?
@AaronLeeJohnson Yeah, looks like that’s what it’s for. It doesn’t make much sense as an everyday light that’s used as a fan at the same time since the light would most likely be aimed at the desk and the fan at one’s face.
@jmrobinett According to the manual, you control the fan and the light separately. I don’t see a transformer, though, so I guess you have to plug into a computer.
But also, since you’re working from home, you end up on a lot of Zoom calls. […lighting problems…]
So what do you need then?
A ring light.
I thought the sole purpose of a ring light is to have your camera viewing through the center.
But this has a fan in the center where your camera is supposed to go, making it land squarely in the “got too greedy” category of product.
I did a (very brief) amount of research, and it turns out I am wrong.
Although “camera in center” is still the primary reason for a ring light, avoiding any fancier setup (buying and fiddling with more lights), this seems to be the new definition:
ring lightnoun
any light source with a diffuser built in, typically shaped in a ring (for historic reasons), intended to give aspiring influencers a quick way to feel more confident
(I found a video of a photographer demonstrating the “correct” way to use a ring light. Although I understood everything he was saying, the ultimate result — from what I could tell — was that the ring light should be at a significantly different angle from the camera, and thus there was not much purpose in it being a ring. In short, he gave a quick presentation on how to position a diffuse light in your setup, effectively ignoring that it was a ring light.)
But I’m just a random jaded/cynical guy on the internet. My opinion is barely worth what you paid for it.
@xobzoo Inventing a definition doesn’t change the purpose of a thing.
Ring lights originated for macro photography - giving even lighting on tiny objects, many were actually very fast flashes to freeze motion with longer shutter times.
A ring light with a fan in the middle is just a light with the fan in the middle. I suppose for the “video influencer” crowd it will give a pleasant ring reflection in the eyes.
@Pufferfishy@xobzoo Do people think that ring reflection is pleasant? I can’t tell if you’re being sarcastic. I’ve always found it to be distracting and off-putting, especially when the person on video is wearing glasses.
@Pufferfishy@The_Tim It’s like literally an “evil eye”
It seems that any good movie/video director, even amateur (got to start somewhere) would be careful to avoid that unless you were trying to scream I AM A BLOGGER AND I HAVE A ROUND LIGHTY THING!
@Pufferfishy@yakkoTDI Sometimes I hear the laughing at 3AM when there is no-one in the house. Should I be concerned? Or just welcome them?

Seems like someone needs to resolve this with a “dual….” See what I did there?
The 2-packs on Tuesday kind of became a thing, but wait; it’s not Tuesday.

One ringlight to rule them all, one ringlight to find them… etc, and there would be no darkness as long as the light kept working. But One does not simply carry a USB powerbank into Mordor!

I’m not a fan of the last mehrathon
@shiranissosexy Why not?
@troy Didnt even realize there was a mehrathon until 1158 but then wanted to say something snarky exactly at midnight and be first and this is a literal fan so I though why not?
@shiranissosexy Somehow I missed the fan joke
@shiranissosexy @troy yes it totally Blows as a joke!
@shiranissosexy @troy my xennial heart has been warmed by your snark, carry on!
@seraphimcaduto

@shiranissosexy @troy
Is this your flower?

@phendrick @seraphimcaduto @shiranissosexy @troy maybe it was millennial?
Veho? More like lame hoes use “AI”.
@DrunkCat That’s quite deserving of the award @mediocrebot gave you. They will never come back if that’s the best you can do.
@mediocrebot @yakkoTDI Please resubmit your comment in the form of a showme prompt.
I didn’t see this as one of the combo item options a couple polls ago.
Was Meh trying to see if anyone already had their future products? No, they aren’t that conniving, are they?
@lonocat been there

@lonocat I think this may be a common problem with laptops. Warranty doesn’t cover it apparently.
Why would these be $92 each? Serious question.
@dagirlgenius I was coming to ask the same question. My guess is that nobody purchased them at that price. Maybe they listed them there at that price just to sell them cheaper on sites like MEH.
@dagirlgenius cheaper than Wally’s world.
$149.99 at Walmart
@dagirlgenius I know. These seem like they’d be $39.99 retail. I can’t figure out what makes them so expensive as likely these were likely in the USA prior to the tariff fiasco.
@dagirlgenius @Kidsandliz probably the ring light being marketed to “influencers” or some dumb crap like that.
My understanding of Ring lights is for when you want good lighting for a selfie or a self record with a webcam. Is this supposed to be for when you want to record yourself with your hair billowing in the wind?
@AaronLeeJohnson I thought that too.
My initial thought was to help someone not sweat.
@AaronLeeJohnson Yeah, looks like that’s what it’s for. It doesn’t make much sense as an everyday light that’s used as a fan at the same time since the light would most likely be aimed at the desk and the fan at one’s face.
Did anyone make a “not a big fan” joke yet?
@RonJ24069 The very first comment lol
@PooltoyWolf @RonJ24069 That one just circulated right past him.
@PooltoyWolf @RonJ24069 pun intended

Can you turn the fan and light on and off individually? In other words can I use the fan without the light, or the light without the fan?
@jmrobinett According to the manual, you control the fan and the light separately. I don’t see a transformer, though, so I guess you have to plug into a computer.
Are these edible?
@posmr15 Breakout the Blendtec and let us know.
@posmr15 @yakkoTDI contains less micro-plastic than the other leading brand?

Literally laughing out loud
@Pufferfishy That’s the sound I heard earlier.
@Pufferfishy @yakkoTDI Sometimes I hear the laughing at 3AM when there is no-one in the house. Should I be concerned? Or just welcome them?

The Exorcist! I’m loving all these horror movie references in the photos.
So buy one? Looks like that’s not an option.
@BethanyAnne this is a 2-pack deal
@Ignorant oh, I was just being tacky.
@BethanyAnne
I’m too use to hanging out in the old MorningSave and SideDeal forums.

Oh sweet I can finally look like a shampoo commercial while making those business calls
@DLPanther might be hard to explain the nakedness on the call… but then again depends on where you work.
@DLPanther Or you could look like you’re dreaming about taking a ride on a big jet plane.
