@finalremix Bubba bottles were great, except the lid closure would break on every one. Usually when you put it on the roof of your car loading the car and first maneuver, saw it rolling away at a stop sign.
Yeah, these are not dishwasher-safe [even with the power bank removed] and since you have to unscrew the whole top to drink, they’re not really any good for drinking [nonalcoholic, of course] and driving.
Also, because the lid isn’t tethered when it’s open, it can get dropped and irt always requires using 2 hands to drink from it.
The final 2 negative comments [offered by SWMBO] was that especially with the [fairly hefty for its size] power bank installed, it’s quite heavy when full, and that it’s hard to gauge how fluid much is left inside without looking because of how the weight is distributed.
@finalremix@PhysAssist Yeah, I have noticed that unless the water is down at least 1/4 from full, the water sloshes out the top when I go to drink from it in the car. I still think bottle+power pack is a good combination, but the design could be improved: thinner with smaller opening.
@finalremix@ItalianScallion@PhysAssist I actually like the wider opening on these. Lets me use the ice maker directly from the outside of the fridge instead of manually putting ice into it one by one.
@mcanavino
While I get whet you mean, these probably aren’t made under government contract, which is where the lowest bidder reference is most salient.
Somehow, I don’t think these are dishwasher-safe. Or “fall down in the stream/lake” safe. Or “get stashed in the cooler by a helpful person” safe. And maybe not even terribly “still functional after a little of the premixed mimosa dribbled down across the USB port” safe.
@PhysAssist@werehatrack Almost all double-layer metal bottles will say that. (And I do usually hand-wash and have a perfect round brush). I would say (guess) that most are dish-washable if you have a newer dishwasher without the big red-hot burner at the bottom, and don’t use the high-heat/sanitize cycle. My newer dishwasher even has fold-out tubes that spray directly into bottles and there’s a button for that. I think I can control it from the internet but never got it to connect. Oh, maybe that was the stove. Or the washer. IoT getting out of control!
@PhysAssist@pmarin@werehatrack
You just got me all excited about getting a new dishwasher! Mine was here when I bought the condo and it’s not only the loudest dishwasher I’ve ever heard but the shortest wash cycle is about one and a half hours! …can’t wait until it craps out!
@Lynnerizer@PhysAssist@werehatrack
Check Costco for promo deals especially in the “slow” season (maybe not now). Free delivery; free haul away of your old stuff. I got a $1600 retail induction stove for like $849, but it said if I buy over $2000 of appliances I would get $400 off. So I got a nice washer/dryer stock combo, and they hauled away the old ones that came with the house. That weighed 320 lbs but 2 young guys carried it in. I had a scrap foosball table a friend left there and I gave it to the 2 delivery guys as a tip.
@PhysAssist@pmarin@werehatrack
Yes, thanks! Those are the little extras that make a big difference!
When my parents had their appliance & TV business they offered removal of the old, free local delivery and installation, and my dad serviced everything we sold. These days It’s a real plus to find a place that offers all of those things.
BTW, that foosball table was a great score for them! Woohoo!
I bought these from meh several months ago. Aside from drinking from them being kind of awkward with the size and amount of lip around the top, neither one would power on for wireless charging unless you plugged it in with a cord first. The touch sensitive buttons you’re supposed to be able to turn them on with didn’t work. They got junked.
I got one of these months ago, and it works great. The container kept my drink at a reasonable temperature for many hours. The charger is fine - it’s only 5700mah - but that’s just an added bonus to me for times when I won’t be at home/office. On days it was just those two, I would usually just leave it at home, since why carry the extra weight (I use a bike).
Want to buy these as gifts but reading the Amazon reviews of dead on arrival and two out of three did not work at all plus missing cords give me pause.
Can you guarantee very soon that these are good units? As I am taking them overseas negating the return process and further costs.
@craigcush@werehatrack For anyone flying (I had not for many years but recently tried again), as you may know you have to carry it on-board. Dump the water before TSA then refill at water station. Airlines might give you water but some charge for it. Bastards. The battery can’t be in checked luggage.
These are actually pretty good for golfers. Most golf carts still aren’t equipped with chargers and between tracking apps and streaming music, your phone battery can get pretty drained during a round of golf. I have these to my golfing buddies at Christmas last year and they all use them and love them on the course. I bought a total of 6 and all of them worked great.
@motronib Mine worked OK too. Haven’t used them a lot though. I hate to say “first world problems” but on the list, “my golf cart doesn’t have a charger” would be up there. Even my lawn mower (which is not working at the moment) had a USB charger!
@ItalianScallion@quattrose
That article was great. That Chinese guy was hilarious and nailed Americans to a T. We are so wasteful and need to have everything. My boyfriend gets on me bc when something breaks I try to salvage what I can from it to use for something else and he’s like “just throw it away and buy a new one”. I hate that bc of all the shit this country puts in the dumpster. I’m always looking for was to donate old stuff that doesn’t resort in things going into a dumpster. I found a place that will take any kind of material. Good stuff they sell to 2nd hand places and everything else they breakdown and make new fabric out of. At least I can feel good about getting rid of old clothing, bedding, rags, any kind of material to them.
I never use the bottles. I have one of the power banks sitting on my nightstand and I use it every night to wirelessly power one of my phones. It works great.
I just used mine a few days ago on a road trip for both carrying cold water and for charging my phone. The only annoyance is that the water bottle is just a little too wide to fit comfortably in a cup holder. I’m glad I got it. (I gifted the second one to a friend who likes it too.)
Got one of these in one of the IRK boxes. It seems to work well. Put ice water in it and it was cold the next day. Battery seems to work alright and it’s easy to store a cable between the battery and the bottle.
I bought these previously. They’re well made. Battery works well, in fact I’m using it right now. The only negative is they are supposed to be hand wash only. Probably b/c when inverted there is a large bowl for water to accumulate on the bottom (where the battery screws in). Also the dishwasher, hot/cold cycles may mess with the seal.
Would recommend if you want to carry battery pack with you & water.
@redjeep0 I had the same feeling. Seemed solid and well-made. See my earlier comments for careful dishwasher-ness.
If on a brief day-hike I would suggest take it without the battery or probably use a cheaper lightweight bottle because it is quite heavy, but if you’re not packing it that’s a good thing. If you expect a blizzard or Zombie Apocalypse then take the battery.
@pmarin@redjeep0 I haven’t had a dishwasher for years. It takes me less than two minutes to wash the bottle and lid by hand with a dish brush, and I don’t have to worry about the cable-holding bowl becoming a mini swimming pool.
these have been up for sale a few times and each time I think to myself “wow this is an even worse idea than I thought it was last time”. I’m not sure how low my opinion of this product concept can go but that’s just one of life’s little voyage of discoveries.
I bought these a while back. The wireless charging rarely works and the usb c port is super to slow to charge a device or charge itself. I ended up taking the battery portion off and tossing them.
@kris3038 Hopefully all the people saying “toss” mean properly recycling it. My neighborhood collects battery products weekly, and there are household hazardous waste events nearby twice a month. A local place will take a carload of electronic items of any kind for $10. Look around, but please don’t put it all in the landfill. Even the TrackRs.
@kris3038@Kyeh Actually West now, Portland Oregon area. More liberal hippies; like me I guess. How did you know I was Asheville? (I am sometimes).
Asheville does have collection events but not weekly curbside pickup. As I mentioned in the wine thread, styrofoam recycling is the most problematic. But I found a place here (West) that will take a carload of styrofoam for $10. Or electronics. Haven’t tried a mixed load but I assume it might be $20 then.
@kris3038@pmarin You’ve mentioned Asheville before, like when it was flooding there . I just heard from my brother that Maryland has bad floods right now … (he’s not there, just watching the news.) There are places here to drop off batteries and some appliances and plastics, but it’s a distance from me (I’m glad it exists at all, though!)

@PhysAssist @werehatrack Almost all double-layer metal bottles will say that. (And I do usually hand-wash and have a perfect round brush).
