I once knew an Esther also, at 70 something years old that “c you next Tuesday” was trying to get into my grandfather’s pants and she was doing it right in front of my grandmother who was literally laying in her death bed!
I’ve never found a poly-Esther I’ve liked since then!
@docflash I find that the older-version silvertone ones from Lowes are not as jarringly discordant, and blend in better with the overall theme of “seemingly organized piles of stuff”.
@clarion47 With you there, in sentiment, but hard to do in practice. According to info at the Meh Amazon comparison link, those there ARE INDEED made in China.
Many things are just not manufactured anywhere else nowadays. India tends to be an alternative for many things, but even they don’t have the best policies toward the West.
But I do look and avoid chinese products as much as I can. I send maybe 20 - 30% as much as I used to in their direction. I plain will not by any food (used to be a lot at “dollar” stores), drugs or pet products produced there, for safety reasons as much as for politics.
If EVERYONE who cannot completely stop buying chinese would at least reduce their consumption of chinese products by half, that would send a strong message to China, since their economy depends significantly on export sales to us/US.
Hopefully US companies doing business will take note and amend their partnerships. And consumers staying away from American partners of chinese manufacturing will also help. (Hello Apple, NBA, sports clothing, dinky hardware, etc.)
China is taking over a lot of American agricultural assets also. Stay aware of that! Or we could see even worse food shortages than during the pandemic, at the whim of the chinese.
Maybe quit supporting chinese-influenced US politicians also (on both sides of the aisle!)

Sack holders?
Do these include rope lights and sausage ropes?
I don’t have so much rope that I need dedicated storage containers for it, but thanks anyway.
@awk I guess I need some of these, because when I made my initial court appearance, I heard them whispering about giving me enough rope.
@awk Let me get some rope first, then maybe I can use some rope baskets.
these are impossible to serve margaritas from unless you can drink really, really fast.
@alacrity But your drinks will be well-aerated.
@phendrick ok, so maybe these’d work better for a dry red wine?
@alacrity Just line them with a garbage bag. Problem solved. You are welcome.
@alacrity
CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!!!
Of course, the main question for Mehmbers is:
Are these made from all cotton ropes or from the dreaded polyester microfiber ones?
@phendrick According to this archived HSN page, if this is the same model (looks identical to me), they are 100% Polyester (under Specifications): https://web.archive.org/web/20220728095609/https://www.hsn.com/products/storesmith-two-tone-25-rope-basket/20341456
@phendrick Polyester, yes; microfiber, no. Of course, it doesn’t say which of the many possible esters they poly-ed for these fibers…
@werehatrack I once knew an Esther, but I don’t know that she ever got poly-ed…

So, they’re about 50 cents an inch?
It looks like about $1 dollar per inch, but you get two.
@Euniceandrich if inches were wings, that’s a great deal these days
Can they be unraveled and the rope used? About what is the lenght of the rope used and how strong is the rope?
@tasco yes you unravel it and then you still have another rope basket to store your unraveled-baskety rope! Genius.
personally, the bright orange ‘Home Despot’ ones are easier for me to find amid the clutter.
@docflash I find that the older-version silvertone ones from Lowes are not as jarringly discordant, and blend in better with the overall theme of “seemingly organized piles of stuff”.
New accomodations for your household pets?
@phendrick I wonder who it was that discovered that cobras were content to stay curled up in a tiny basket like that.
They’re surely strong enough to lift the lid, so why don’t they? But I don’t dare think too much about it or I’ll waste days researching it…
Edit: I’m going to pretend that cobras are secretly cats, and all they really want is to sit in their box.
@phendrick @xobzoo Cobra Kat was just a misunderstanding of Cobra Kai.
Hey @unksol. You need to buy some for the cats. The cats would stack themselves higher and deeper in them and maybe it would give you more desk space.
@Kidsandliz Added bonus:
stack cats is a palindrome
Disclaimer: Not suitable for hangover vomiting.
@detailer You have test results to share?
Monkey is thinking the same thing I am:
Are there no bananas for scale?!!
/showme a modern living room, but cold and empty
/showme a modern living room filled with rope baskets
In! I need a new hamper and I’m sure these will come in useful when I need rope in the zombie apocalypse.
/giphy boiling-grimy-theory

@spavlis Maybe by then, @tasco will have found out how many feet of rope you get from each basket.
I’m in too. The zombie apocalypse/rope justification made all the difference

i am sure these are made in China and I have taken the pledge not to help our greatest threat.
