@shahnm
I’m naturally a lil skeptical of consumable on Meh to begin with. In my experience it’s often right at or just past the best-by date or has been discontinued for whatever reason. As an adult with a developed immune system who’s had Taco Bell more than enough times I don’t mind taking the plunge.
But for my little one? Nah, hard pass.
And apparently most agree as only 10 have sold at the time of this post.
@shahnm@theonlybuster Expiration for this is October 10th. So there are 5 of months left for this formula. It’s a problem for the company to sell it that fast, but it wouldn’t be a problem for the baby to eat it that fast.
@KristiLis@theonlybuster
For the record, I was just being snarky (as is my way…). This is probably a good quality product at a very good price. No one (really - NO ONE) on the interwebz should give any fucks at all what I have to do say about random products sold at quirky websites. If you need this, buy it and save some money toward the rugrat’s future braces…
Is baby formula really the best one can do when breast milk isn’t available? Because from my understanding, Formula doesn’t give the baby all the benefits breast milk does.
If breast milk isn’t available, what other options are there? After formula, goat milk is all I’ve ever heard taken seriously. It seems to me that there would be a bigger goat milk market if it were universally better than formula.
I think it’s pretty uniformly agreed what is best, but “when breast milk isn’t available” basically eliminates any remaining discussion (unless someone has other alternatives that haven’t been said yet).
@chienfou@ciabelle@yakkoTDI
Dilbert creator went a far-right way I didn’t agree with. He’s free to do it but all his stuff that was already becoming less-funny became not funny at all to me after that. Plus didn’t want more reminders of the days of “cubicle culture.”
One of the few things that the FDA actually mandates standards and might enforce before RFK.
That’s being said, I do have questions. Considering where things are heading and what happened during the pandemic… Where on earth is meh getting half priced formula?
@chienfou@pmarin@PooltoyWolf it’s a normal phrase. But it also indicates you’re not willing to debate the issue. So maybe it’s not worth your time. The opinion is formed so why bother?
My opinion is formula is fine and it’s BS to blame/make a mom feel awful for using it. And they are correct. My opinion on mistreating people will never change.
You want to sling some scientific studies my way sure. Never mind there’s antibodies and other good reasons to breast feed. Some people can’t. Some people need a break. Some can’t all the time.
Normally donating product to food banks is inefficient; they can get a lot more cereal than you can for the retail price you would have paid. This formula might be a good bang-for-buck to help your local hunger charity.
From the write-up “What if, in twenty-four years, your kid’s GRE scores are two points lower than they need to be to get into Harvard Law?”
I was about to snarkily comment that its not the GRE but the LSAT for Law School. Until I looked it up and they changed it in 2018ish. I learned something new today. Having had to take the LSAT twice in the before times, I wonder what I could have achieved with the GRE
@earl_danger can’t speak for now. I took the Gres on a win a number of years ago. I didn’t need it I just decided to take it. I got a 99 across the board. 99%, so I found it much easier than any other pre-grad school test I ever took
@Kyeh@pmarin lol she said “let’s give Joseph a breast” cause she was making us read out loud a paragraph at a time. and my bad it was middle school… Maybe 8th grade. We were too immature not to snicker.
@Kyeh@unksol my name is Peter and in high school English class a teacher used the phrase “to Peter out” which I didn’t know but me and a few neighboring students chuckled.
Timely Pope fact learned today that as each new pope adopts a “Pope name” they cannot adopt the name Peter by unwritten Vatican conventions.
@Kyeh@pmarin that kinda makes sense because of Simon Peter and the whole “on this rock I will build my church” thing. So… They probably hold that name a little sacred?
The Catholic church history… Is mostly political and wrapped up in monarchy so. Eh…
They seem to be better now. But. It’s worth knowing the history
@DrunkCat I mean there were just a few comments on bad parents around @shahnm post. But most people were normal.
And they list the expiration dates. There’s nothing wrong with using formula.
Use by/best by dates are not normally required and I dont throw out food Unless it’s bad.
But with formula the FDA requires them to verify the nutrients will meet those levels till that date. Basically the only thing they mandate at that level.
I mean I’d prefer a nice tit too. But sometimes (most of the time here) it’s not available

Baby formula at Meh… For cheap-ass parents who hate their kids…?
@shahnm

@theonlybuster
The next round of IRKs is going to be… interesting.
@shahnm @theonlybuster ?? You don’t want some portable mothers milk for the coming apocalypse?
@shahnm @theonlybuster @unksol Can I get it at the survivalist store along with freeze-dried rations and 30-round clips?
@shahnm @theonlybuster Expiration for this is October 10th. So there are 5 of months left for this formula. It’s a problem for the company to sell it that fast, but it wouldn’t be a problem for the baby to eat it that fast.

@AaronLeeJohnson from your understanding, what would be better?
@AaronLeeJohnson @TheUnion I, too, am puzzled by this question.
@AaronLeeJohnson @TheUnion
Breast milk
@AaronLeeJohnson @TheUnion @xobzoo Rat milk.
@AaronLeeJohnson yes
@AaronLeeJohnson @Drez143 @TheUnion so what female is offering it?
“Can it make a margarita: This is a wildly inappropriate question”
you say that like it’s a bad thing
Non GMO?
@phendrick
Label clearly says GMO free…
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
why get it when you don’t even have kids?
@mycya4me To make margaritas!
@mycya4me @yakkoTDI Maybe if you mix it with tequila and the pink lemonade mix from yesterday?
@ciabelle @yakkoTDI

@chienfou @ciabelle @yakkoTDI
That was a great time in comics:
A bit of Doonesbury still.
The far side.
Calvin and Hobbes.
@ciabelle @pmarin @yakkoTDI
and Dilbert…
@chienfou @ciabelle @yakkoTDI
Dilbert creator went a far-right way I didn’t agree with. He’s free to do it but all his stuff that was already becoming less-funny became not funny at all to me after that. Plus didn’t want more reminders of the days of “cubicle culture.”
There’s nothing wrong with formula. Full stop.
One of the few things that the FDA actually mandates standards and might enforce before RFK.
That’s being said, I do have questions. Considering where things are heading and what happened during the pandemic… Where on earth is meh getting half priced formula?
@unksol
And pre-tariff to boot!
@chienfou @unksol Don’t take it personal, but when someone emphasizes with a “full stop,” I generally stop reading.
@pmarin
And don’t take it personal, but I wish people would stop lumping everyone into the same reply.
@chienfou @pmarin @unksol This is the second time I’ve seen this reply and I don’t understand why someone would be averse to a perfectly normal phrase.
@chienfou @pmarin @PooltoyWolf it’s a normal phrase. But it also indicates you’re not willing to debate the issue. So maybe it’s not worth your time. The opinion is formed so why bother?
My opinion is formula is fine and it’s BS to blame/make a mom feel awful for using it. And they are correct. My opinion on mistreating people will never change.

Show me how using formula has provable harm
Apparently I have some work to do. Can you get another batch in about 9 months?
@cinoclav Just make sure you don’t fuck around.
@yakkoTDI No one will find out!
Normally donating product to food banks is inefficient; they can get a lot more cereal than you can for the retail price you would have paid. This formula might be a good bang-for-buck to help your local hunger charity.
So meh is going to baby us now?
Okay, so this is really a niche product for this site.
Sometimes I’m relieved when I know at a glance that the item of the day is one I don’t even have to think about buying.
@IAMIS
70 years (and one vasectomy) later, I’m right there with you!
Now they sell just about everything
Thanks. In for one. Have a newborn. 90% breast fed but takes about one formula bottle a day when I’m helping mom
@user18400606
Seems like a good balance.
Congrats on parenthood, kudos on taking care of mom!

@earl_danger but were you breast fed or bottle fed? This is the question lol
@earl_danger can’t speak for now. I took the Gres on a win a number of years ago. I didn’t need it I just decided to take it. I got a 99 across the board. 99%, so I found it much easier than any other pre-grad school test I ever took
As I recall, I liked to get my breast milk the old-fashioned way.
@pmarin i mean. Who doesn’t enjoy a good breast?
Omg I meant break… Er rest
Basically quoting my high school English teacher as she turned bright red.
But also true. Boobies
@pmarin @unksol OMG - your poor teacher!
@Kyeh @pmarin lol she said “let’s give Joseph a breast” cause she was making us read out loud a paragraph at a time. and my bad it was middle school… Maybe 8th grade. We were too immature not to snicker.
@pmarin @unksol I’m pretty sure we’re all too immature not to snicker.

Was gonna do the regular “AI” quip but honestly the formula hate in this thread is horrific enough.

@DrunkCat No, your comments are way more horrific.
@yakkoTDI Whatever you say you anti-formula conspiracy nut.
@DrunkCat
Incorrect, just like an AI bot would be.
I’m late to this one, but fed is fed.
Also, I sent an order of this to the local housing for teens and young parents, since they burn through formula like it expires in October.
@Thumperchick
Shouldn’t they be on solid food by that age…?
@shahnm @Thumperchick lol but you know what she meant
