@Kyeh@sammydog01 They are made of microfiber “plastic” plastic which breaks down in the laundry and pollutes waterways and entire ecosystems including winding up in our bodies and our brains. Great stuff, eh?
“Is microfiber bad for the environment? Well, yes, according to the experts”, “Microfibers are essentially tiny pieces of plastic — they’re so small that they get into everything: plants, animals, soil, and water,” says Danielle Jezienicki, Director of Sustainability at Grove.
@HALFEEL@Kyeh “Microfiber” is a term used for things made from light denier synthetics. “Microfibers” are tiny fragments of fiber. These towels are not made out of microfibers. The terms are just similar.
@Kyeh@sammydog01 It says right there on the offer page that they are made “microfiber”. If they are not made from microfiber, then please tell us all just WTF they are made of then?
@HALFEEL@Kyeh Yep synthetic fibers create microfibers, tiny pieces of fiber. All synthetic fibers. Larger yarns are typically produced from sticking multiple small filaments together. I can find nothing online that says that microfiber fabrics such as this shed more microfibers than any other textile product. That article you linked isn’t even about microfiber fabric. You’re comparing two different definitions.
40"x24" is big? I guess they’re comparing it to the little microfiber towels you dry your car with. That little logo probably isn’t good for the paint though.
Microfiber becomes a tough, minimally absorbent and rough piece of flexible plastic after some use. I’ve got about 50 of them that suddenly don’t work at their intended function.
@qazxto Yep and the micro means lots of microplastics for our future. Best solution for general cleaning is the large packs of 100% cotton white towels you can get at club stores.
@qazxto don’t know if this contributes to that but when you wash microfiber towels don’t use fabric softener and try to dry on low heat. It’s a constant struggle to keep them out of the regular laundry for me because I might be the only one that cares.
“They wear out” is a weak criticism. Microfiber cloths are the best choice for cleaning some surfaces. I agree that microplastics are an environmental problem we need to know more about. I’m uncertain about how much risk these towels pose to the environment.
I’m thinking if I had a dog and wanted to take it to the beach with one of these, I would just use it once and leave it there with all its imbedded sand.

@katbyter@scorpyo72 Imagine someone picking up a mechanic’s red shop rag and trying to use it to clean their glasses. Even fresh ones can have metal shavings in them if they get processed by certain uniform suppliers.
I received these last week and have used it twice. You know how a freshly shampooed dog still has an underlying funk until it’s completely dry? I noticed the towels dry so well, the boutique smell happens immediately rather than waiting for airdrying. Pretty cool. I like it.

I’m disappointed - I thought the Meh face would be a cute dog.
@Kyeh Missed opportunity.

@HALFEEL @sammydog01 I was referring to the graphic. I’m not buying the towels.
They should have the Meh click button look like
@HALFEEL @Kyeh All synthetic fabrics (and plastics) do that. The word microfiber here isn’t the same thing as what you’re talking about.
@Kyeh @sammydog01
Yes it is: Microfiber = microplastics
“Is microfiber bad for the environment? Well, yes, according to the experts”, “Microfibers are essentially tiny pieces of plastic — they’re so small that they get into everything: plants, animals, soil, and water,” says Danielle Jezienicki, Director of Sustainability at Grove.

I have a dog that drools huge puddles in the car.

@sammydog01 mine like to puke in the car when we’re like 10 minutes from home after a long drive.
@sammydog01 We have a cat that drools when she’s really happy, and she adores being on a lap. You can see where that goes.
What, no PURPLE for the paw prints?

Another set of towels for me, the wife’s pet.

I wanted them because I wash the dogs. My brother said we already have too many towels. We roo shamed. I lost. Screw him, I bought them anyway.
@goldnectar “roo shamed” = roshambo’d (sp?)?
@goldnectar Sham wowed?
Not good for pet fish.

@iggy71 That looks like a Magic Carp, whose only “attack” until a very high level is “splash”.

@pmarin @qazxto this is the absolute truth.

@806D2701 I tried looking it up and it’s not as simple as micro=bad.
I don’t know. It seems cheaper than a Sham Wow, but is it better? Plus Sham Wows now have Zinc and that seems important.
@tommytoad0 it must be important. It’s Zinc!
@tommytoad0 eat a ShamWow at the first signs of a cold, and you’ll be just fine.
When I first saw the picture last night I thought it was a generic brown paper bag with a question mark on it, then I realized oops, wrong site.
Are these compatible with Pekingese?
@dharr18 duck feathers are hydrophobic.
Wyoming Cowboy brown - Go Pokes!
As people above have written, these don’t last forever but they’re a good size for the back seat of my car, so in for four.

@katbyter imagine leaving it in you car after a trip and a friend using them to CLEAN THEIR SUNGLASSES!!!

How does Meh. know how big my dog is?
