I never WORE one of these like some creepcam guy, but when you consider the first Kodak camera held 100 shots and was close to the size of a small shoebox, it’s pretty amazing. 5MP shots are fine and these are great for artsy LOMO or “toy” camera fanciers.
@OnionSoup@radi0j0hn would be nice if these things took an SD card. A 32 GB microSD card and a decent battery and the ability to automatically take pictures every n seconds and you’ve got your own time lapse machine.
@OnionSoup@radi0j0hn I thought the higher the MP in a given aperture the greater the pixel density and therefore the cleaner the image and the more after work can be done. Please edify me if this is not accurate.
@Philosopherott@radi0j0hn megapixels does indeed measure pixel density but doesn’t measure fidelity.
There will be more pixels stored the higher megapixels and theoretically a better picture can be stored. However, there are lots of cameras out there with large megapixel ratings that take terrible photos.
5mp is very low by today’s standards and won’t be an excellent picture (and this price almost certainly isn’t a good picture) but that doesn’t mean it isn’t necessarily worse than some 20mp cameras out there today.
Already got a bunch of glasses in previous marathon. Curious to see what kind of shenanigans can be had with these. Guessing nothing too shenanigany but hell if I’m not going to try my best.
I kinda wish these could work as webcams, because most of those have an impractically wide field of view while these have pretty much what I’d like to get. But that’s apparently not an option. Rats. So close.
I bought the version of these that was sold here a couple of years ago — they were fine but a little inconvenient to use. This fixes at least one of the inconveniences (attaching/detaching from glasses), so why the hell not.
@hamjudo@werehatrack Or going to do something to try to get on America’s funnest home videos… (which is probably the same as doing something dumb and risking injury).
Amazon ratings tell the tale: 48% positive (4+5) while 35% negative (1+2) is about 42% out of my comfort range. While appearing to be a fun gadget, these are actually an exercise in frustration and failure. Like I need more of that in my life right now…
Pogo=nogo.
Yesterday I was thinking I needed a crappy camera, not attached to my phone, to take pictures of eBay items. And these things show up today. I’ll give it a try for $20.
@Fuzzalini The still photo quality on this product will be absolute garbage unless you’re taking all your eBay photos outdoors in sunlight. This will not help you sell things.
@Fuzzalini Hunt down a Canon Powershot A1200 for about $20 on eBay. Simple camera with a "live view " setting to adjust the image without dealing with numbers, f/stops, etc. Also has an optical viewfinder and 12 MP resolution, uses AA batteries.
@KENSAI@ybmuG I also think these will be stupid and fun to play with for 5 minutes. And I am seriously considering something with a flash on it, though my living room gets full sunlight.
AVI video files? Those would be all but useless. You’d have to use Handbrake to convert them to MP4 just do do anything with them. And 10 seconds is a long time to hold a button to start a recording of only 30 seconds. I understand why there are so many negative reviews.
@cchristiansen
I think the implication is that the Smartcase requires charging from some other source. Given the overall probable level of satisfaction with the performance of the item, I wonder how many people will be flinging these across the room with great vigor before reaching the third recharge from that Smartcase.
Previously purchased one of these. It came with the glasses, and it has horrible video and still shot quality. Honestly can’t believe these are still around. Bought mine about 2/3 years ago and these are the exact same. No wifi capability means you have to transfer to the “smart” case and then onto a computer.
We’ve thought about attaching it to a small scale train to record it crashing into a wall.
It says “No glasses included”, but it also says “Sunglasses Not included.” So we don’t get sunglasses, but what kind of no glasses are they? Proscription? Conscription? Inscription? They can’t be prescription, obviously.
Yeah, these things are awful; little documentation, had trouble even figuring out how to charge them. (It appears you have to turn the smart case on in order to charge the camera….) pictures are mediocre at best and 10 minutes into my first session using one it froze and completely stopped working…
Add to that, there are no firmware updates and the help forums appear to have been shut down, these things do not appear to be useful at all.
If tech guys got together and TRIED to come up with a product that was just horrible, they wouldn’t be able to come up with anything else than this “camera”.

With 2, does that mean I’m shooting in 3D?
/giphy pogo 3D
@ybmuG Only if you take pictures of a Necker Cube…
@ybmuG You’ll need 3 for 3D
@asplus @ybmuG 2x 2D = 4D
@asplus @marka11111 @ybmuG
4D last time, that’s not how it works.
I feel like I got the glasses in an IRK last year….
So these are for making 3D POV videos?
Interesting.
@mike808 with 30 seconds of video, what movie will you make?
@hchavers @mike808 For most men, or Meh-n, 30 seconds is plenty. Oh wait, what kind of POV are we talking about here?
You’re looking at this all wrong. What you’re selling is two kinda expensive USB-C charging cables, that come with these nifty FREE little cameras!
Wow, these things still exist?!?!
@Gumby
Apparently. They even upgraded it to USB-C!! Because that’s the only thing that needed an update… apparently.
Maybe if it was a PogoStick…
@eeterrific
Hey, what a coincidence, I just bought a pogo stick last week!!
I never WORE one of these like some creepcam guy, but when you consider the first Kodak camera held 100 shots and was close to the size of a small shoebox, it’s pretty amazing. 5MP shots are fine and these are great for artsy LOMO or “toy” camera fanciers.
@radi0j0hn MP is how much space the pictures take up. It isn’t how good quality the pictures are.
A 5mp from one camera can be better than a 20mp on another camera. MP are mostly irrelevant.
That said, I highly doubt these take great photos.
@OnionSoup @radi0j0hn would be nice if these things took an SD card. A 32 GB microSD card and a decent battery and the ability to automatically take pictures every n seconds and you’ve got your own time lapse machine.

@kus @OnionSoup @radi0j0hn
And you could then strap it to a dog or cat’s head and see what sneaky things they were up to in your absence.
/giphy cat wearing spy camera
@kus @OnionSoup @radi0j0hn I give up on giffy for what I was looking for but that gif is pretty cool - outer space on your camera lens.
Looks like your urinal cake there needs replacing, buddy! Let me quickly snap a photo, aaaaand, we’re good!
But plenty of plastic.
You guys did a really, really good job of not making these sound creepy.
@nayten Except for that last photo maybe?
Already got a bunch of glasses in previous marathon. Curious to see what kind of shenanigans can be had with these. Guessing nothing too shenanigany but hell if I’m not going to try my best.
The main page says a 30 second video clip & the specs section says 6x 30 second video clips
That’s a big difference
Which section is correct
Amazon & every other website says 6x 30 second video clips
So I assume the Mehmployee who wrote the description Meffed
What the Meh is going on
Maybe the writer was Mehssed on some thing from out of this world
@sumthakkar The charging case holds six videos. The camera holds only one.
@hamjudo @sumthakkar The specs above say six on the cam itself, 180 in the smart case:
I kinda wish these could work as webcams, because most of those have an impractically wide field of view while these have pretty much what I’d like to get. But that’s apparently not an option. Rats. So close.
Is it bad that i was considering getting this until I saw the horrible reviews? Not even sure what I had in mind for it. Nothing malicious… I think.
What’s up with the lenses on your glasses bro?
Ahh, my bad, I bought them on a discount website.
The lenses I mean. The cameras
Then I had to buy glasses for them.
You wouldn’t understand.

@relm256 It worked! Your order number is: baleful-usual-dove

I will buy these if they come with a friggin’ laser beam attachment.
I bought the version of these that was sold here a couple of years ago — they were fine but a little inconvenient to use. This fixes at least one of the inconveniences (attaching/detaching from glasses), so why the hell not.

@kensey “why the hell not”
The meh slogan
Pogo!
People won’t think you’re creepy if you mount these on a helmet instead of mounting them on glasses.
They will think you are about to do something incredibly stupid and get injured.
@hamjudo
Yeah, they do kind of reek of “Hold my beer”, don’t they?
@hamjudo @werehatrack Or going to do something to try to get on America’s funnest home videos… (which is probably the same as doing something dumb and risking injury).
So inconspicuous… Completely undetectable.
30 seconds of video was a lot…15 years ago

Yesterday I was thinking I needed a crappy camera, not attached to my phone, to take pictures of eBay items. And these things show up today. I’ll give it a try for $20.
@Fuzzalini You’d have been better off using the $20 to buy an old Samsung Galaxy S3 on eBay…
@Fuzzalini The still photo quality on this product will be absolute garbage unless you’re taking all your eBay photos outdoors in sunlight. This will not help you sell things.
@Fuzzalini @KENSAI maybe they’re selling vintage things and are going for a vintage look to the photos. And by “vintage” I mean crappy.
@KENSAI @ybmuG I also think these will be stupid and fun to play with for 5 minutes. And I am seriously considering something with a flash on it, though my living room gets full sunlight.
@radi0j0hn Thank you! That’s exactly what I need. A good, old camera.
SIX 30-second videos - now that is a game changer!
~ Someone in 1998, probably

Does this mean after the third time, you throw these away, or just throw the Smartcase away, or something less obvious?
@cchristiansen
I think the implication is that the Smartcase requires charging from some other source. Given the overall probable level of satisfaction with the performance of the item, I wonder how many people will be flinging these across the room with great vigor before reaching the third recharge from that Smartcase.
Absolutely changed my life. Put these babies on my glasses and was immediately voted president of Nerd Club of America.
Forget these for videos, just a fun camera the size of a pencil stub for snapshots.
Glasses mounted camera with out the glasses…? Definitely meh

@trailtroll Please do! Maybe with some Legos to bust up?
@sammydog01 @trailtroll Yes! Yes! Please do! Come to think of it, this might be the perfect use for these, bad quality and all. It’s artsy!
@sammydog01 @ybmuG I see a new gif on my horizon
utter POS. Tried it. about as good as my ancient Palm pilot for pix.
PASS.
Why do I have the grim suspicion that these will feature prominently in future IRKs?
@werehatrack worse - they’ll be nonfunctional returns with missing bits.
@ybmuG
Yeah, no cables; that’s my personal bet.
It says “No glasses included”, but it also says “Sunglasses Not included.” So we don’t get sunglasses, but what kind of no glasses are they? Proscription? Conscription? Inscription? They can’t be prescription, obviously.
It’s the roaring 20s version of a fucking speaker dock.
Yeah, these things are awful; little documentation, had trouble even figuring out how to charge them. (It appears you have to turn the smart case on in order to charge the camera….) pictures are mediocre at best and 10 minutes into my first session using one it froze and completely stopped working…

Garbage. Throw them in the trash.
