These things look like they’re about 4 inches tall and 2 1/2 inches wide. I know they come in handy when you have no power but for this size and no batteries, I would say $5.99 would be a better deal.
150 lumens is not much light (I’m thinking 10 watts incandescent equivalent)? So these would be useful as markers or to keep from running into stuff, but I’d hate to try to read by them.
@sfwineguy Here’s a video I just took - plenty of light for reading. It’s decently bright and will light up a tent – probably looks a little less bright in the video due to lighting correction from my phone.
@blaineg Most flashlights that use 3xAAA do so in a little holder that can be replaced by an 18650 battery. There are cheap plastic sleeves that keep the 18650 from rattling around.
@blaineg What would you prefer at this price point, LR44s?? Besides, sometimes it’s nice to have something that just…works, if you’re smart and have stocked up on batteries for emergencies. Rechargeables aren’t always the best solution.
@blaineg@PooltoyWolf I already have a nice set of ecoloop batteries, just need stuff that isn’t airtight. Though I don’t really need lights like this that often either.

Don’t like COB lights that shine straight out. The light is in your face instead of where you need it.
But they do look brighter that way. (And everything outside a small radius way darker.)
@formfeed one of the Milwaukee lights you can change to shine in front or be an all-around lantern I think others do that too. But for $40-80 though using a standard battery system. It’s all a matter of right tool for the job, for your budget, etc.
EDIT your username just brought back memories of early computer days, and for some reason I remembered ASCII 12 or Control-L.
@pmarin There is a lot of nostalgia in camp lights. I think, people want them to look like oil lamps. But sitting at a camp-site, something shaped like a Milwaukee work light would really be better. Maybe a collapsible, low-lumen, light-weight version.
My EDC pocket flashlights are about 300 lumens, and run from one 14500. These are bulkier with less light. I’ll pass. They have a use case, but not for me at the moment.
@werehatrack if I needed one in an emergency I would still be glad to have a COB light but not my first choice. Prefer either traditional flashlights (in door pocket usually) which have many more lumens than these, or grab something from the tool bag which has either Milwaukee or DeWalt stuff already since I learned to carry impact wrench and tire inflator at all times in vehicle so adding one of their high-quality lights (not cheap) just made sense.
@DemonMF777 yup this is true. I have some stupid electronics I have to wrap in Saran-wrap. Or would get rid of them but e-recycling is not easy most places and don’t want to throw them in the trash.
Reading these comments I’m supper happy for dollartree. Since they have an equally “sorta” bright lantern option but for 1$. For 7$ they need to be significantly better than the 1$ option. Stuff breaks in an emergency, and the last thing you want is a broken lantern when you could have had several for that same price thats also just “ok”. This feel like the kind of thing you do 6 for 15$ and hope the volume does the leg work.

@bugger Close! 5.5" x 2.5" x 2.25"
@bugger And the strobe setting is a deal breaker for me. Nothing worse than having to cycle through “strobe” trying to turn it off.
@bugger @lichen no cycling through necessary - you have to hold it down to turn on strobe
@bugger @troy The lamps are the same size as a 12pz (355mL) soda can.
@bugger-Me Too!! 🫣
/showme POGO eating a COB
@mediocrebot which pogo is that??

@mediocrebot Look and learn, @mediochrebot !
@phendrick I have a shelf of those books that my Dad left me.
@duodec Great humor in there. Sometimes subtle, sometimes not. Helped me get my first grasp on politics when i was young.
Kelly would have had a field day with both Biden and Trump (and probably Obama and W).
Both internet archive and anna’s have bunches of them, in case you are missing any of them.
i’ll have to re-read some of these, and then look again at Al Capp.

@duodec @phendrick Pogo was MUCH BETTER than L’il Abner.
@mediocrebot @phendrick “We have met the enemy and he is us.”

3 AA. Yuck. Nope.

@blaineg Well you could use rechargeable triple A’s.
@Kidsandliz ITYM double-A.
@blaineg @craigthom
I was thinking something similar, and I actually custom-designed a 3D-printed part to do this same thing for a previous Meh flashlight, but in this case I think the part that holds the 3x AA is hard-molded into the case, so it would be a much more major operation to replace it.
Would have been better with internal battery with USB charging
AND it’s small… Really really SM ALL!!

‘Rugged rubberized exterior’ just means these will degrade to a sticky mess in like a year or two… No thanks!
