My wife had one of these, and after a year it started just randomly turning itself on and off uncontrollably (like on in the middle of the night making spooky noises in the charger, and not on whenever you want to brush your teeth).
Maybe that’s an anomalous lifespan, but I wouldn’t spend $75 on another one after that. (That said I wouldn’t have spent $75 on one in the first place either because I feel like my hand is quite adequate at moving a toothbrush.)
@ravenblack I had a lesser one that got haunted. It turned out that the gasket around the vibrating shaft went bad. The replacement didn’t have that problem and is still going strong.
Did you get a replacement? The warranty is two years.
@craigthom@ravenblack I had problems with this specific model, after owning an earlier model for years with no issues. I returned it and got a less fancy model, which has functioned perfectly. In general, these are great toothbrushes.
@ravenblack I didn’t have this model, but I had the same weird behavior where it’d turn itself on. I’m glad that you brought it up. I thought it was just me. I ended up tossing it down stairs to my garage, which seemed to make it more angry.
Do I have to click through every mode to turn it off like the dumb other one I bought? Also does it stop brushing for a second a bunch of times to try to tell me when and how to brush my teeth? The last one I bought here actually stopped working a few weeks ago. I was going to open it up to repair it, but typing this comment makes me realize I’d rather buy a different one.
@raive my similar model has a dedicated on/off button so no mode cycling. (Edit: Now that I look at the pictures of this one, it doesn’t have the mode button on the front that mine does so maybe that’s different here.)
It does change the vibrations to kind of beep at you every 30 seconds to try to instill order in your brushing routine, but you can just say “you’re not my dad, Philips Sonicare, you don’t tell me what to do!” and carry on brushing as you so desire.
@raive On mine, you only have to click through every mode if you try to turn it off immediately after turning it on or switching modes. If it’s been on in a selected mode for at least few seconds, a single press will turn it off.
@djslack if it just changes the vibration, that’s fine. My old one turns off for probably a full second. My morning seconds are valuable, toothbrush. I got up late… on purpose… every day forever
This would end up where all my other electric toothbrushes go, on a shelf or in a drawer until I get so tired of looking at them I throw them away. Meh
@Stallion OK, but when you throw these away, you can feel good (or bad) that they were better and more expensive than the others.
P.S. Send to electronics recycling or remove the battery and recycle that on any of these – since they will be either NiMH or Li-ion batteries, should not go in the trash.
This seems like a phenomenal deal… Costco has the 2-pack on sale right now for $220. I think I’m in for this since our e-series sonicares are… whoa… 8 years old and one of the 3 just failed
@Superllama7 I immediately checked Costco when I saw this because that is where I purchased my current Sonicare In addition to being $70 more ($130 more without the current $60 off), it has 2 less brush heads.
Very tempting, but that generous Costco return policy has saved me on a Sonicare in the past. Decisions, decisions.
Side note - noticed that these get 4.7/5 stars at Costco (860 reviews), but 3.9/5 on Amazon (1,371 reviews). Seems like a fairly significant difference.
@rrichmon For me, it’s hard to justify a 50% premium for the return policy. I wonder if toothbrushes get the extended warranty from the Costco Citi Visa card
@rrichmon@Superllama7 normally it should cover you for an extra year if it’s anything like my other cards’ extended warranty policies. (AmEx, Chase Visa…etc)
@chienfou@Superllama7 I wsn’t referring to the warranty—more Costco’s, unless it’s a select number of listed things that have a 90-day return window, we’ll take it back whenever for whatever reason without any hassle whatsoever policy. I don’t abuse the policy like some, but has saved a few times because I tend to buy things and leave them sitting around in a box until past when many return policies and/or warranties end only to find out that they are DOA upon opening or shortly thereafter.
That was what happened with my prior Sonicare. It sat in the linen closet for more than a year a half & then died after a little more than a year of light use. I brought back to Costco, and they issued a refund no problem. I bought the same one again, and it had worked fine for probably about 6 years of moderate use. Recently, one of the two handles stopped charging. I figured it’s the battery but it doesn’t seem replaceable. Feeling like it died about when they seem to on average rather than way sooner like the first one, I am just going to buy a new one rather than bring it back to Costco. I guess it’s essentially buy it here and risk having to buy another one (or mess around with warranty service) within a few years versus pay the extra $70 now and know that I won’t.
@iPooOnUFirstMeh The glass is so you can use it to rinse after brushing. I bought one of these about 6 months ago for each of my kids, since they refuse to use the same (regular) glass. They also refused to put their other electric brushes on those little charger bases. So now they have their own rinse glasses and they just pop the toothbrush in it when done. Makes their bathroom so much cleaner. Also, these are awesome toothbrushes (I had one first and loved it which is why I got them for the kids). Anyway, probably more info than you really needed or cared to have.
I am still using the Sonicare knockoff Meh sold me a while back. Plus, I have some funky Kickstarter in the works that supposedly will clean your entire mouth in 30seconds. I think I will spend my $150 on another knife.
Hey Meh! What happened to the knives!
Soniccares are incredible…but they don’t last. I’m on like #5 right now. Register those suckers so you can get warranty service when it starts morse coding on you. And the “portable charger” is a good alternative to the glass. But be prepared to access that warranty. You’ll be lucky to get 2 years out of one.
@laurelnev I agree wholeheartedly. I actually just initiated a return for my toothbrush over the weekend. They come with a 2-year warranty, and past experience suggests you can expect to return it two to three times during that period. Luckily, Philips are cool with the returns and cross-ship the replacement, but it’s still annoying.
Usually every fall, Sam’s and Costco have a 2-pack just like here for $90 on sale. The rechargeable batteries in anything are shot after 2-3 years without teardown and rebuild refreshes or replacement. Since these are sealed, they’re designed to be replaced by a new purchase.
They just tart them up each year a bit, but it’s the same thing they’ve had for at least a decade now. The travel cases are nice if you travel.
What sucks is there is no carrying/storage case for your supply of heads. And you get three different heads, so if you like one, you’re hosed at replacement time.
Oh, and good luck finding those black heads in a 6-pack for replacement. Youll have to settle for radioactive waste Chinese knockoffs.
@pmarin I wasn’t saying the seasonal deals are for equivalent items - although they both do what you expect. I just don’t need any of the “bells and whistles” these come with. Brushes teeth? Check. That’s it. Everything else is the same - the battery tech, the motors, the “interface” (an on/off button), replaceable heads (even cheap “compatibles” are available).
This is probably a good deal for this luxury bundle. For someone wanting just a basic Sonicare electric toothbrush deal, not so much.
And they are the best tootbrushes, no matter the model, IMO. Most people are either on Team Sonicare/Philips (vibrating heads), Team Oral-B (rotating heads), or Team WaterPick (high-pressure washer). They all get the job done.
@earmstrong no real knowledge here but if I was to place a bet with the information I have on hand, it would be that this is last year’s one they need to clear out to make room for a sightly dolled-up version. This is long proven technology that isn’t making a lot of changes right now.
@earmstrong I think kind-of like iPhones, there is a new model every year or so, often just marketing differences, new packaging, etc. Agreeing with above comment, I doubt there is any significant difference and no actual “problem” that had to be fixed.
Bought these for hubs and I at Xmas to replace 15 year old Sonicares which were fine but I was feeling the consumerism. Spent more than this even after using Costco sale for devices and Kohl’s sales/coupon/kohl’scash/rebate for brush heads. Nothing beats a Sonicare if you actually plan to have teeth in your old age.
This is Phillips top tier of E-toothbrushes which uses WiFi capable brush heads for syncing to the handle and the software. This model Bluetooth syncs with an app which can show you improvements on brushing as well as if you putting too much pressure on the brush and the handle flashes purple to warn you if you are in front of a mirror. Also when you change the brush heads the app will update what is currently hooked up and the handle vibration speeds used changesfor each type of brushhead. those who say they already own one but don’t know any of these details you don’t know what you’re talking about. Before I bought my navy blue setup last year I had the set from Costco which was a decent set but it still used the old original heads and there wasn’t anything smart about those units. The only thing that I miss from the original collection is the brush head light sanitizer base. I still have my original sanitizer base but I’m not going to have a bunch of crap on the bath sink just to be able to use it. This toothbrush gives an unbelievable clean feeling when it’s done right is all I can say!! meh!!
@bigsnappy This particular model does not seem to be compatible with the BrushSync brush heads or the app. While it still may brush better than manual toothbrushes, it’s lacking some of the premium features that you’d find in newer models like the DiamondClean Smart.
I own this and love it. Teeth feel so clean after brushing. Bi-yearly cleanings at the dentist are a breeze. At this price, it’s a steal. I may bite on this but am just trying to find a good place to store these until my current unit breaks down. The wife won’t understand why I purchased another, and two of 'em!
Meh, when you gonna sell me a garage storage cabinet? One with a lock on it?
/giphy toothbrush hoarding
If you don’t use a sonic-type toothbrush, you are dumb, and these are very good at a very good price. Unfortunately, I have one that functions just fine, and a new backup ready for when it fails…
Considering I have a Pursonic I bought here that I haven’t opened yet, I’m torn as to what to do. These are obviously waaaay better but are they worth shelling out the $$$$?
I bought one of these at Target on clearance last year (similar model anyway). It’s super-nice. I gave it to my future-ex-wife so I’m stuck with the older crappier ones. Now I’m gonna get 2 more, I guess one for me and one for my next-future-ex-wife?
@rgallmann Quip - even if free - are a RIP OFF. My old Sonicare slings toothpaste across the bathroom if I forget to turn it off before removing from my mouth. The Quip? Only the faint hum belies the fact that it’s “on”.
( unsafe-irreverent-finger ) This is by far the most I’ve ever spent on a toothbrush/toothbrushes but I guess if it’s that great of a deal I can just be broke and have clean teeth…
Sonicare is definitely the best electric toothbrush you can buy. I already have two- one for AM, one for PM- or I’d grab this deal in a heartbeat. My Sonicares have lasted 7+ years. Your teeth will be 3-4 shades lighter after a few weeks of regular use, and after each brushing your teeth feel like you just came from the hygienist. Forget the cheap imitations- these are the real deal, and a bargain. Sad that I already have them…
I had an Oral B and an ultrasonic toothbrush I was using after my good ultrasonic toothbrush company went under. I ended up having so many cavities and fillings break while using them that my dentist GAVE me a Sonicare. I’ve only had 1 cavity in the 3 years since. It’s made me a believer.
This is the exact model I own and use every day. I am on my 4th or 5th Sonicare, I’d say (in around 20 years). A few of them petered out after around 2 years, but Sonicare replaced them when they did. So I ended up getting about four years of mileage out of each one.
This model is great and all, but I do miss the separate on/off and mode functionality I had on earlier models. Sometimes it takes a while to let the thing go before you can turn it off, if you accidentally hit the button and put it into the wrong mode. I used to like my old model for the fact that I could leave it on one setting and never change it. Still, though, it functions very well at the, you know, cleaning teeth part. The travel case is nice - sure - but it’s big and bulky, so I rarely take it with me.
I have a cheaper Sonicare that I use for travel, and it just isn’t as good. Only one setting, and it just doesn’t feel like it’s as thorough.
I bought the Diamondclean (this one) from Best Buy, and I got it for $100 back in December of 2016. I thought that was a great deal. It was, but this one is even better. Plus you get three brush heads with each one. I feel like I only got one when I bought mine, but I could be mistaken.
I purchased this set earlier today but didn’t get a chance to post - a backup for me and one for a gift. I would say that, if you have reservations, you should go for it.
@jeffcohen I really want to, but there are still at least 1 or 2 sets of the Pursonics sealed in the box laying around the house! My current Panasonic just won’t die and all the 1 star reviews on Amazon of the Philips dying prematurely or just after the warranty expired and Philips just giving the finger isn’t exactly reassuring. If this were 1 for half the cost I might’ve been more willing to risk it.
Just looked and I got the Panasonic here in 2015, talk about getting my money’s worth!
@therealjrn So if you are going to include the entire membership for one item, then OK.
They also have a 100% money back guarantee on that membership, so you can cancel it after you buy the toothbrushes amd get your $60 back.
So the $60 membership isn’t a factor. Do you count $60 a year in VMP fees here at Meh whenever someone buys their first item to get free shipping? Because Meh has the same money-back offer as well.
If you plan on buying other things from costco, then you also get 1% cash back from Costco. If you get the Costco Visa you get 1% CB, plus 3% restaurants and 4% on gas (anywhere, including Costco gas) on top of the Costco 1% CB. The cash back doubles for Costco purchases for the $120 Executive membership for from both Costco and the credit card, so basically 4% CB on Costco purchases.
But if you’re not, then get your $60 back and it is a non-issue.
Or, get a friend that has a membership to go with you and use their membership to get in and let them get the $1.20 CB for your toothbrush purchase for bringing you along to get the deal.
@mike808 I believe the member ship can only be shared within a household. So you are advocating cheating Costco? Or are you advocating entering into a contract for your membership knowing full well you plan on “being dissatisfied” and defaulting on your agreement? No wonder there is a bad taste in your mouth Mike. Enjoy your toothbrush.
@therealjrn Anyone you like can accompany a member into the store. The member presents their membership card at the register and you can pay with cash or any Visa card. The payment card doesn’t have to be the member’s payment card. Just the member’s account.
You were the one raising the $60 membership fee as an impediment to obtaining the deal I posted. I posted a way that eliminated that, if that was truly were your concern. I suspect not, and that you just like being a goat’s rectum because you’re so good at it and it just comes naturally, and certainly not because you do so intentionally.
@mike808 There are “ways” to avoid paying for lots of things–but I didn’t raise the question of the cost of membership as an impediment, just as an additional factor. That you responded in such a knee-jerk visceral fashion says far more about you than it does me, Mike.
I bought this June 2019 - Philips Sonicare DiamondClean Toothbrush. It just DIED, barely 2 yrs later (coincidentally, or not, it has a 2 yr limited warranty). Never buy Phillips again. Basically just an expensive 2 yr rental.

The charger is great.
meh.
I have the white one and it’s fantastic. Definitely recommend.
Are these going to come up stolen, then I buy it again but this time get a T-shirt for it and a sweet coin?
What’s the over/under on this being another great toothbrush journey?
I wish I didn’t already own this, because the price is a steal. I LOVE this toothbrush. It is fantastic!!
I wish I had a witty quip for this.
@cinoclav i see what you did there
@cinoclav We had some but Quip would just brush them off.
Sorry, I only buy my toothbrushes from the back of a truck…
@larryg18 I love that toothbrush truck
@craigthom @ravenblack I had problems with this specific model, after owning an earlier model for years with no issues.
Have you seen dental cost these days? My dentist JUST recommended this puppy.
Schrödinger’s toothbrush goes electric. Bob Dylan did it first back in the '60’s.
$149, good lord, does it LOOK like I’m made of money??
@nolrak (you get two!)
@nolrak I mean…
“nolrak is a hardcore meh fiend having placed 94 orders”
@nolrak @Superllama7 that’s a lot of orders
My manual version, with the natural quiver, works well.
@hchavers Natural Quiver…we found Michael J Fox
@hchavers @mydrivec …that’s harsh… funny , but harsh!
A toothbrush with 6 heads should have been named Philips Cerberus. Perfect for your trips to the underworld!
Meh
@Stallion Like me
@Stallion OK, but when you throw these away, you can feel good (or bad) that they were better and more expensive than the others.
P.S. Send to electronics recycling or remove the battery and recycle that on any of these – since they will be either NiMH or Li-ion batteries, should not go in the trash.
Pass.
This reminds me to try out my Waterpik some time.
@JT954 Oh, I do have 1 of those.
This seems like a phenomenal deal… Costco has the 2-pack on sale right now for $220. I think I’m in for this since our e-series sonicares are… whoa… 8 years old and one of the 3 just failed
@Superllama7 Sorry for the excessive ellipses

TYPO!! Decimal point is in the wrong place. Try moving it one digit to the left.
The toothbrush is to be charged by inserting it in a glass and then on a charging stand. The glass idea is crazy.
@iPooOnUFirstMeh The glass is so you can use it to rinse after brushing. I bought one of these about 6 months ago for each of my kids, since they refuse to use the same (regular) glass. POPSOCKETS! SPA KITS! POLLY POCKETS! AWESOME!
@iPooOnUFirstMeh my hubs uses the glass for his whiskey. You don’t need to use it to charge the brush.
I love my diamondclean. Solid deal for anyone who was looking into getting a sonicare.
I am still using the Sonicare knockoff Meh sold me a while back. Plus, I have some funky Kickstarter in the works that supposedly will clean your entire mouth in 30seconds. I think I will spend my $150 on another knife.

Important Question
Is meh an “authorized dealer” for these or will we get hosed by Philips if they go tits up in 18 months as some suggest?
@chienfou Important Answer
Should you have an issue needing warranty support, you’ll have no problem getting it from Philips.
@Jdub That’s good to know. I have gotten screwed in the past when buying things from ‘untraditional’ retailers then trying to get warranties honored.
I bought one of these at Target on clearance last year (similar model anyway). It’s super-nice. I gave it to my future-ex-wife so I’m stuck with the older crappier ones. Now I’m gonna get 2 more, I guess one for me and one for my next-future-ex-wife?

@pmarin (replying to my own post so giphy doesn’t change): Oh, maybe there she is now!
Quip! Enough said…
@rgallmann Lol. I participated in Schrödinger’s toothbrush, and Quip brushes belong in the litterbox
@rgallmann @storunner13 agreed. they’re weak garbage. i don’t get the hype.
@rgallmann Quip - even if free - are a RIP OFF. My old Sonicare slings toothpaste across the bathroom if I forget to turn it off before removing from my mouth. The Quip? Only the faint hum belies the fact that it’s “on”.
My bf and I both own one (we live together, but i don’t want to settle for regular brushes when I travel for work and he’s at home). They are great!
( unsafe-irreverent-finger ) This is by far the most I’ve ever spent on a toothbrush/toothbrushes but I guess if it’s that great of a deal I can just be broke and have clean teeth…
I just realized that would’ve made a really good GIPHY, well my unique order phrase that is
@bigtom67

@bigtom67 @cinoclav That’s just wrong on so many levels. On the other hand (literally), I guess it is a form of dental hygiene.
@bigtom67 @cinoclav This has been on my screen for 38 minutes now (according to “said xx minutes ago”). Two thoughts:
@bigtom67 @cinoclav
@pmarin Hint… it’s a loop…
can I make several orders? Want to get some for gifts
@atinge when ordering you click add another if the button is there.
This one doesn’t have it, so you can only order the one set.
I broke down.

Alright, I’m in…

@mehmoth Wow! Serious chafing happening here!
@mehmoth that is just wrong

I’m not usually here for expensive name brand products but I’m not mad at it.
Costco has the Philips Sonicare 7000 2-pack bundle on sale for $120 starting June 26 through July.
@mike808 Plus $60 membership fee.
