@dpease no, those suck. I have several glass Lock 'n Lock (and a couple dozen at least of the plastic) and I HATE the glass ones, they easily chip into sharp edges and the lids are hard to clasp closed, but they do have nice vents built into the lids… still I won’t buy any more.
@dpease totally agree. Glass is way better for heating in the microwave. Although I really hate the Snapware set I got at Costco as they don’t stack & the wings on the lids are massive & also difficult to store.
@dpease@JohnQ118- you’re correct to be weary about storing food in plastic containers. Although, they are BPA-free, many manufactures use BPF, or BPS & those chemicals are just as bad! In order to be more safe, glass, stainless steel, or ceramic containers are better, but if you Do use plastic then to be safer, Don’t stick’em n the microwave, or a dishwasher!!
@dpease@JohnQ118@Lynnerizer Years ago I picked up some Bormiolo Rocco Frigoverre glass containers at TJ Maxx and I’m still using them. They’ve never chipped or cracked. I way prefer them over plastic because they don’t stain or hold food smells. (I’m looking at you, tomato sauce!) Weight doesn’t matter to me because I use them around the house; I keep some of those cheap Glad plastic ones for taking stuff to parties, so I don’t have to worry about forgetting to bring the container home.
I did get a set of plastic Rubbermaid containers in an IRK. It’s the clear, rigid plastic. I use those for dry goods, like flour and rice, and storing non-food stuff, like hardware and electronic parts.
@dpease@JohnQ118@phendrick She had pointy boobs and if they were sharp, I would still have taken one for the team. 2 actually. What team you ask? I dunno he answered.
@dpease@ItalianScallion@JohnQ118
I used to use glass for all of the reasons that you and others have stated but after I shattered my hand several years ago I can’t hardly lift anything with it, and that was my good hand. So these days weight makes a difference. And because I use a crutch on my left side, my dominant side, I really can only use one hand. I’m still waiting for help to finish cleaning up the bottom of my oven from dropping a pan and getting grease all over. I don’t want to THINK about everything that could happen if I dropped a glass container.
@dpease@ItalianScallion@JohnQ118@Lynnerizer as I am getting older and have some muscle issues I have the same concern with heavy glass containers. But I’m also eager to clear out a lot of old and unmatched plastic. I like the stacking of these. I generally don’t microwave so that’s less of an issue. I was trying to go all-glass but these may give me an option.
@Lynnerizer Ooh, I understand. I just moved into a new apartment with all tile floors. I quickly and unintentionally found out what could happen if I dropped a glass container! That wasn’t any fun to clean up.
@ItalianScallion@JohnQ118@Lynnerizer makes sense. I don’t care at all about weight of these and am not worried about dropping one. I guess we’ll keep limping along with the Pyrex round glass sets with thrashed lids that we have and replenish next time Costco has them on sale. It is so obnoxious that they don’t sell the lids separately.
@dpease@ItalianScallion@JohnQ118
I know, right! Big mess cleaning up broken glass! I have the whole scenario pictured in my head, - glass breaks, I clean it up the best I can, a week later when I’m not even thinking about it I get a shard of glass in my diabetic foot and end up in the ER. And it’s more than likely going to be more involved than pulling it out with tweezers.
I swear my life is a page out of Murphy’s Law, whatever can go wrong usually does!
@dpease@JohnQ118 We’ve got some glass ones with plastic clamping lids that fit well and lock easily, and they haven’t chipped at all. Much depends upon who’s handling them, of course.
These are GREAT! I own scads of them, square, round, rectangular; even the glass ones (which suck and I hate them greatly-lids difficult to clip, glass is easily chipped {sharp edges!}) and the newer hard-plastic clear ones too. The round ones even stack inside of each other. This square set is a good intro.
Buy 'em and throw out your old plastic storage containers.
@mediocrebot@therealjrn Thank you for mentioning this. What people forget is that Tupperware and the Roswell incident happened within a year of each other … COINCIDENCE???
/showme Tupperware floating in air and text below saying “I WANT TO BELIEVE”.
I like the glass ones A LOT! I have never had a chipping problem, but there is definitely a learning curve on locking them. I prefer glass for heating for sure, but the plastic ones will certainly have some uses. Not for heating, just for storing
@Joedetroit According to LocknLock’s own specs, the containers in this set are made from food‑grade polypropylene (PP) with a removable silicone gasket. The official product listing for this “Russian Doll” set lists the material as polypropylene and notes that the silicone seal can be removed for cleaning and that the containers are BPA‑free (the listing is here: Foh Foh product details). LocknLock’s own catalog likewise notes that the lids and bodies of their Classic containers are polypropylene, while the packing (gasket) is silicone and everything is dishwasher‑, freezer‑, and microwave‑safe (PDF: LocknLock catalog). I might be a GarbageAI, but at least my facts aren’t leaky!
Anyone happen to know dimensions instead of volume? I’d like to use them for storing things other than food, like art/craft supplies…pens, pencils, markers, paint, etc.
@jmrobinett Good question! I hate how storage containers are always sized by volume, especially the huge Rubbermaid or Sterlite totes, which are generally used for storing clothes or items NOT measured by volume. I want to know how much shelf or floor space they’ll occupy!
So I know the writer was joking about using these to keep airpods fresh, but I actually do use lock and lock containers in my work backpack for storing and organizing computer accessories and cables
We had glass for a couple of years and I loved them. Then suddenly they all started chipping and I’d find tiny shards of glass in my cabinet/microwave/freezer/whatever. Recently threw away the last 7-8 of them. I don’t love storing things in plastic but I also don’t like cutting my hands or eating shards of glass. YMMV
@Pufferfishy I started my addiction of LnL at the original Woot way back then. I eventually went to the LnL site where they had mystery boxes every once in a while. I remember they had some restructuring of company and huge blow out sales!
Got a lot of unique containers and a few kitchen utensils. Love LnL and if I didnt have a ton stored away in the basement would be ordering more.
@mediocrebot very decent and relaxing.
I think I might save this as a background image.
People may ask “who is she?” Oh just some Ai Elf I met on the internet. You know you can’t meet real Ai people, or Elves!
@mediocrebot@rpstrong indeed. Plus if you read down a few posts there is a cute old comfy looking house for us! Ai is so wonderful! The real world is sucking so pretend elf wife and house sounds pretty good now!
On the topic of round ones, and glass, I have accumulated a collection of round glass ones too. The problem is that there are 2 main brands, Pyrex and Anchor Hocking. With care you can try to match all the lids which “kind-of” work either way. But if you are OCD need to make sure you have complete sets with only the correct lids. Not sure I was ever OCD, but now I am pretty much WTF?
For those who are concerned about BPA and the other forms of bisphenol and their endocrine-disrupting capabilities, here’s a link to the Wikipedia article that barely scratches the surface of the topic.
I found a good high-quality brand made in South Korea, called BioKips. Probably a bit heavier than I expect these to be, and have versatile shapes like long ones for ramen noodles. More expensive than these would be. Also small ones with compartments for packing small servings of nuts or fruit. Very heavy grade plastic.

But you need these for your American cheese slices.
@yakkoTDI
@yakkoTDI- you store them the way you always have before seeing this deal.
@1DisabledWarVet My stomach says thank you.
@1DisabledWarVet @yakkoTDI Then what do I do with 6 dozen of these I bought?
I know that will be a Major Problem. Just like Farm animals no longer get square meals since the bales are Now ROUND!

I agree!
I love this set. More versatile than typical tupperware, they sit neatly inside each other, and can store liquids with no leaks.
These are leftover Mac and cheese compatible
@djkevdogg who ever has leftover Mac and cheese?
@djkevdogg I would never have leftover M&C because I’m never going to make M&C. I’m the person who does not like M&C.

@jmrobinett The official product listing for this “Russian Doll” set provides the sizes: about 93 × 93 × 54 mm (180 ml), 117 × 117 × 61 mm (430 ml), 141 × 141 × 71 mm (820 ml), 165 × 165 × 81 mm (1.3 L) and 189 × 189 × 91 mm (2.1 L). Each Meh set includes two of each container size. The same listing notes that the containers are airtight, BPA‑free and safe for the microwave and freezer. So do you get a total of 20 since it’s a 2-pack? My brain can’t process…
@KewlKevin but wait, the piece count usually includes the lids which is kind-of a cheat but many sets do it. Meh math is hard!
@KewlKevin yup looks like you get 2 sets each with FIVE, count ‘em, 5 containers. And each container has a lid. So, 10. X2. now I am confused too…
Are these Chinese plastic or U.S. plastic, I.e. DuPont, Monsanto? (Oh wait that doesn’t sound much safer…)
