@AaronLeeJohnson@Forkbomb You’re right, the “antiqued” look is so much better when it’s authentic.
But most viewers don’t appreciate the difference, so you can usually get by with artificially distressing your belongings.
I have one of these. I love it. It’s much harder to lose my keys in this than anything else I’ve had. Mine is probably a decade old and no signs of wear beyond some minor scratches.
I bought plastic ones on here years ago, upgraded to the titanium one once those broke. I use mine for my house and mail keys. If you have a bunch of keys, or just a couple and hate them jingling, I’ll highly recommend these.
At $5 a piece these are one of those “practical stocking stuffer” gifts you can give someone that they’ll actually use every day and not just end up in a junk drawer. Easy buy for regifting.
I’ve had one for years and can’t understand why someone wouldn’t have one. Give them one so they have no excuse.
@dahobbs9 I just went to watch the video.
At first I thought the USB feature you meant was pulling a key out to discover that you had it upside down, then you turn it over, and discover that it’s upside down, so you turn it over again, at which point it works again.
Just like the old USB.
But then I saw the USB drive they’d put on their keyring. That’s probably a “bring-your-own” deal (I know I’ve seen some before that would probably work, but I have no idea how I’d find them again).
(fwiw, I wonder how much practice it takes to open the keys in the correct orientation more than half the time)
When I had enough keys to use one of these, I really liked it. I think I inserted a thin Nites carabiner so I could clip it to a belt loop and tuck it into a pocket. It was quite secure and much more comfortable without all that weight flopping around at the bottom of your pocket.
This is a hipster product for me. I got a keysmart through kickstarter, before it was cool. I also gave the XL version to my dad who put all his work keys on it and loved how much less loud and bulky it was than a key ring
I used to work a job that I had a Ton of keys for. I Really liked the idea of this. It worked for awhile, then one day it just cratered. So I went thru the process of reloading keys in the extra one I had. Hate to say it, the concept is Great but it didn’t hold up. Fell apart in my hands again. The keys took up a lot less space. I only used as many keys as it was meant to hold, unless they are stronger now, save your money.
I’m gonna be a snob, but I prefer the Keyport line of key organizers - yeah, they’re several times more expensive, but I feel like the Pivot’s a better design, and I ADORE the Slide. I’ve been using the Slide since 2014 through three product revisions, and they’re just great. Can’t recommend it enough.
Also, Keyport’s current mounted flashlight is easily the best keychain flashlight I’ve had. (Not counting big ol’ flashlights, and not flashlight nut flashlights.)
On the flip side, though, gotta admit that ten bucks is ten bucks. Might very well still pull the trigger myself.
If you want to tighten down the screws, they really only hold 4, and the keyring doodad is the thickness of a key. So 8 is really pushing it with the screw half into the other side. I’d say 6 keys is more reasonable.
I never understood the use or allure of these. When I had a ring of keys that would make a high school janitor grin, i just kept them on a carabiner. Nowadays I have 3 keys, and besides the key fob just a keychain or two.
Is the target market someone with a bunch of keys or people far cooler than I?
@Ozzie2191 for any kind of regular outdoor activity, the ability to hold a few keys flat against your body is pretty great. I have one of these along with a quick disconnect for my car key on a ring, so I can carry them split apart in two pouches of a flip belt.
I have something like this. Love it so much I changed my mailbox lock to have a key compatible with the holder. (Not because it seized, not not possibly that) Got frisked by security one time when they mistook it for a multi-tool or folded knife though.
My previous workplace gave us four bulky keys that looked identical and my apartment at the time also required three keys to enter. Key management was an absolute menace before I got a Keysmart with the extra-long screws.
Wow. This was pretty lame, @mediocrebot. The exact three words, in English instead of Mediocrese, on a background of '60s hippie flowers? That’s all ya got? Did Casper Milquetoast create your new AI engine?
For a few years, I lived in a house with an attached garage and worked at a place secured with RFID badges, so I didn’t have to carry any keys. Literally just put my vehicle fob in my pocket and walked out the (garage) door. It was amazing.
I now have to have one key for my unattached garage, and every few months, I consider getting a smart lock for that door so it’ll automatically open when I walk up with my phone.
I’m thankful I haven’t had to carry more than one key at a time for…17 years?
When I go to ballgames or concerts or the like and have to empty my pockets before walking through the magnetron, the security people always think it’s a pocketknife. Once, even after showing the guy it was my keys, he wouldn’t let me through. Had to wait for the security boss to come over to allow it.
@accelerator This reminded me of a time I went through TSA to get to my flight. They confiscated my fingernail clippers because it had a 1” “blade” for cleaning under nails. Once through security I sat down at the gate next to a lady. She reached into her knitting bag and pulled out two 15” metal knitting needles. She had a “look” about her that seemed shifty and menacing. I quickly got up and sat somewhere else. Needless to say, I may have dodged a bullet. I kept my eye on her throughout our flight.

This is a smart deal!
On one hand this is less jingly but on the other hand the keys are less likely to scratch things in your pocket?
@AaronLeeJohnson The structure of your statement implies that you consider one of those features to be a downside.
@AaronLeeJohnson @xobzoo How else are you supposed to get that nice loose key patina on your cell phone screen if they’re all nicely packed together?

I don’t really get the point of this product. But I kind of want to buy it anyway.
@dpease justdoit.gif $10 is worth the science. You’ve probably spent more on dumber here.
@dpease It keeps the keys organized and they are not digging holes in your pocket or your thigh.
Probably??
@haydesigner I thought the sarcasm was implied on the site we compete to buy disappointment.
@dpease Even if you don’t have a ton of keys, there are tools you can add to this like scissors or lock picks.
@Potatoboy twist my arm why don’t you
This deal is as smart as “AI” is dumb.
@DrunkCat But not as dumb as you for letting them get away.
@yakkoTDI k
@DrunkCat Who is this Al guy that you are so obsessed with? (Is it Al Franken? I bet it’s Al Franken - he’s such a douche bag.)
@macromeh who is Franken and why is he such a douche bag
Looked and looked but have not found the usb “tool” add-on for these as shown in the promo video

Keys? Who the h*** uses keys anymore?
@ellett I have an electronic keypad on my house but still like to have the key as a backup.
2010 called and wants this deal back.
Who’s using keys these days? Tomorrow meh will be selling a CD storage rack to neatly store all your CDs.
@uscpsycho I hope so, I need a new one!

I still use mine today that I bought either here or that W**t website.

@bibulb Is that a keyport in your pocket… or are you just happy to see me?

I had a few of this brand I got as deals.
It didn’t annoy me enough to stop using it. I also had the bottle opener accessory.
Occasionally two keys would get stuck and it was a pain to separate them.
I no longer need the two work keys, so I’m down to my house key and a couple of padlock keys. I’ve switched to a little carbiner key ring.
Have it from back in the day. Bought another set!
I never understood the use or allure of these. When I had a ring of keys that would make a high school janitor grin, i just kept them on a carabiner. Nowadays I have 3 keys, and besides the key fob just a keychain or two.

I’ve had one of these for 5-7 years. They’re great. Occasionally get compliments on it (which is admittedly weird).

@AROAH I’ll definitely be recording my opening of my package now when it arrives. Did you contact them to resolve?
