@bobogobo Much faster than the crummy ones that get shoveled into IRKs by the dozen, much less fast than the top-of-the-line stuff from Anker and such.
@AaronLeeJohnson What? You’re not siphoning any energy from the car battery if your battery and alternator are working properly. (Not including times when the engine isn’t running.) A power bank would be more for places you don’t have access to any other sources of power.
@PooltoyWolf Hmmm. Maybe this person drives an electric vehicle? Although such a fear(?) sure does seem almost irrelevant since a full charge of a phone or tablet would consume a teeny-tiny percentage of the vehicle’s traction battery capacity…
@AaronLeeJohnson A typical car battery in good condition: 75Ah at 12V (nominal), or about 900Wh. Typical high-capacity phone battery: 4Ah at 3.7V (nominal), or 14.8Wh. Obviously, charging your phone battery for several days’ worth of operation is not going to drain a typical car battery very much, although leaving a slow-drain device connected, like a poorly designed charger with a high no-load parasitic draw, will often drain it dry in a week or less.
@andymand@PooltoyWolf Not even that, electric vehicles have a regular 12 volt car battery just like regular cars, and accessories like this would run off the 12 volt battery not the EV batteries.
@AaronLeeJohnson@werehatrack And even this would be assuming your car doesn’t cut power to the 12 volt sockets when you shut the engine off (most modern cars do).
@bugger well I have at least 10 of the low-power version of these, 1A output only (not these). Also came in 2-packs. Much of the ´regret’ from IRKs in the past year has been ´Oh no, not more low-power USB-A car chargers!´ I usually got a handful in each IRK.
@bugger@pmarin I got “lucky” this time and did not get any of the 1A “chargers”. (I’m almost to the point of calling them “retreaters” since they can’t keep up with my phone in navigation mode.)
@jml326 I consider those to be instant e-waste. These, however, remain useful for most device-charging tasks. Not all, there are things which demand a C to C cable and a native USB-C port to charge from. (Trying to cheat with an A-to-C adapter results in Fail with these.)
@spiffchili The ones in the IRK are crap, only 1A charge rate. 1A isn’t enough to maintain the charge on my phone’s battery if I’m using it as a navigation GPS in my car, particularly out on the road where the signal gets weak. These are better; 3A charge rate. That’s useful for just about any phone or non-gaming tablet, where the others are a joke at this point. (And that’s why you got a dozen of the now-crummy ones in an IRK.)

Stocking Stuffers!!
Literally bought the same two pack for $8 on October 20th from MEH. They are alright. Fast but not that fast for my 14 PRO.

Remember guys, you can’t spell Hussell without “sell”!

Better to buy a portable powerbank than to siphon energy from the car battery.

@AaronLeeJohnson
I hope you are being sarcastic.

@AaronLeeJohnson - I just came here to say, “Lololololololo-whaaaa???”

@AaronLeeJohnson Never go full numpty.
@AaronLeeJohnson @davidfast What’s a full numpty? Is it like a Full Monty?

Good deal but I’m a usb -c guy now. Plus I have like 10 of these already.

Accurate statement is accurate.

@Rhyvangaralian “Trial” mix day? Like when you’re a defendant in both federal and criminal cases?
@hugacrv @Rhyvangaralian Man, they’ve got a day for everything!
If only irk didn’t ship me 1 1/2 cases of the low amp already…
@jml326 I consider those to be instant e-waste. These, however, remain useful for most device-charging tasks. Not all, there are things which demand a C to C cable and a native USB-C port to charge from. (Trying to cheat with an A-to-C adapter results in Fail with these.)
I got like 14 2-packs of these dealies in my last IRK. I think I’m good for a minute.
@spiffchili The ones in the IRK are crap, only 1A charge rate. 1A isn’t enough to maintain the charge on my phone’s battery if I’m using it as a navigation GPS in my car, particularly out on the road where the signal gets weak.
