Ordered this last time around. I’m constantly washing my hands at my office (woo norovirus outbreak) and tbh it’s kind of a lifesaver. This is coming from a very dry adult male who generally does not like moisturizing.
I got this just in time for peak dry hands season, and when I remember to use it it works pretty well. I still get dry hands (see comment about when I remember) but so far have kept them from cracking. Also a little goes a long way, one little dab on a fingertip is good for both hands unlike other lotions that seem to need more. That’s the only reason I’m not ordering more now–the first two bottles will last me a long time.
@djslack Hmm I always thought this was like a bandaid or invisible glove like in the title. I use a lotion that shields the water, kind of like a child’s butt cream. I didn’t realize this was a lotion, guess I never read the description correctly if at all. This is what I use and like, but I don’t like the usual $10 for 4oz. Right now it’s on sale for $8.45 https://a.co/d/7buhwaf
@djslack@Lynnerizer How does the one you use smell? I got this “Gloves in a Bottle” stuff and it has a smell I don’t really like; that doesn’t last too long, at least.
@djslack@Kyeh
If you’re asking me, the Remedy doesn’t have a smell, at least not to me, it also says unscented.
I use a few of their products and some come in a lavender scent, I haven’t tried that scent though. 🪻
@Kyeh I agree about the scent, it’s weird, but it’s light, so i don’t smell it unless i put my hands near my face & it does dissipate pretty quickly. Since i’m really picky about scents on my hands, the fact that it doesn’t bother me is a plus. It seems to be helping my chronic winter hand cracks & sandpaper effect, which is a minor miracle, considering the desert-like conditions in my house when the forced air furnace runs constantly.
@djslack@ircon96@Lynnerizer Yes, the Remedy is what I’m wondering about, because I have this stuff and don’t like the smell that much. I also don’t find that it really shields my hands that much either. I put it on but then put on Eucerin afterwards.
@Kyeh Oh, i knew instantly what you meant, because i was glad to find out i wasn’t the only one who thought that, since i didn’t see anyone else mention it.
As far as the feeling of it, i think that’s what i like about it, it’s very light & seems to absorb into the skin, rather than coating it or feeling greasy or sticky, which really bothers me, along with strong fragrances. That kind of stuff just makes me want to wash my hands even more, which is the worst thing for cracked alligator skin. I do feel that this one is still there when i wash my hands, though, so it seems to stick around for awhile.
You said you add lotion on top of it, which makes me wonder, are you just using a small amount of this, or do you slather it on? I’ve been using a decent amount to be able to coat both hands, otherwise it seems like my overly dry skin just sucks it up too quickly.
@ircon96 Sorry, only just saw this! I put on about a nickle-sized blob. It’s always my fingertips that get cracked and this does seem to help shield them somewhat but it doesn’t help soften the cracked places.
@Kyeh Yep, that sounds like the amount i use, give or take, after washing my hands so they’re damp & don’t suck up all the stuff. That’s too bad about the cracks, those are the WORST! Luckily, i was able to start using it before mine appeared, maybe that helped. Unfortunately, there’s a good test coming, cuz the temp is due to drop precipitously this upcoming week, so . Assuming I’m diligent about reapplying it when necessary, it’ll be nice if i can confirm it’s actually helping & it’s not just the relatively mild winter so far.
@ircon96 The temps have already dropped here, along with about 5" of snow so far. I’m not planning to leave my house until at least Tuesday! Currently 14 according to my phone.
@djslack@ircon96@Kyeh
Truth be told I don’t use it on my hands, I use it on my lymphoedema where I have a really dry spot that sometimes cracks. It does a great job keeping it protected and soft. Our local hospital uses the Remedy brand skin care products as well. My lymphatic therapist is the one who turned me onto the Remedy prevent lotion.
@ircon96@Kyeh
My dad used to slather lotion on his fingers and cover them with cotton socks when he slept to help his deeply cracked finger tips. I always felt so bad for him, it looked so painful.
@Kyeh Yep, that sounds exactly like what’s coming our way, thanks in advance! Lol… It’s almost 40 here today (above 40 in some places) with rain, but starting tmrw afternoon, they’re expecting maybe 6"+ of snow by Mon am & no melting due to the Arctic temps for several days. Ugh. I just might have to locate the neighborhood bear’s den & hibernate with him/her!
@Lynnerizer Ouch, lymphedema sucks! I’m glad you found something that helps the dry/cracking spot, at least!
Ooh, yes, fingertip cracks must be SO painful! I get bleeding cracks, usually on the backs of my hands, which are bad enough, but the fingertips are so sensitive & you use them for everything, so there’s no avoiding irritating them. That’s a tough problem to solve. My late husband used to get the deepest cracks in his calloused heels; that was another persistent issue. We tried your father’s method to no avail. He couldn’t feel his feet due to severe neuropathy, so at least it wasn’t super painful. Silver linings, i guess.
@ircon96@Lynnerizer It looks like we’ve gotten about 6" here so far and it’s still coming down, those fine powdery flakes you can hardly see. At least it’s cold enough that it will be easy to shovel once I get up off my butt and do it. My phone says it’s 12 degrees out there!
@Kyeh Ugh, it’s bad enough to have to shovel, but when it’s that cold, it’s adding insult to injury! They said ours is supposed to be fairly powdery, too–I’ll believe it when i see it! But i just heard on a Boston radio station that some areas are going to get a foot! That better not be us; why can’t it go up north to the ski areas where they really need it?? I get so grumpy with this winter crap! Lol
@ircon96@Lynnerizer Thanks! It wasn’t too bad shoveling today, although there must have been more residual warmth in the ground than I realized because the snow wasn’t just power, and the mailman’s footsteps left icy patches I had to scrape and put deicer on.
José Díaz-Balart annoyed me on the news because he said “much of the country is preparing for frigid temperatures tonight” or something like that. Hellooo, this part of the country already HAS them! Sheesh. We’re just fly-over country, I guess.
But you guys are in for it tomorrow or maybe already, aren’t you! Stay warm!
@ircon96@Kyeh
Glad you survived today’s snow chores!
Yeah I was just looking at Monday’s forecast and it’s going to be in the teens, that’s cold! Silly me had been looking at Sunday’s forecast earlier and I thought we beat the cold. DUH…
