@therealjrn see, these are good because it looks like you can keep stacking them up on each other until your drink is at mouth level, and then you can just lap at it like a cat as you drive through this great country of ours.
@JohnQ118@omally@therealjrn the one that has all the weird curly bits? But you never get it clean inside so your mother throws it away?
Who am I kidding? my mother would never throw anything away.
@mycya4me I remember those. Might still have one downstairs. There was screw/clamp mount and suction base. If suction base pretty sure the rubber will be petrified now.
@pmarin Not Mine, Mine might release once a year in the Fall. I just wet the suction base & stick it back the the front window under the rear view mirror. It holds my phone when I am using the GPS.
I found out about them from some of my Ham radio friends, which needs a lot of mounts for their radio hardware. Yes I am a Ham!
The problem with a phone holder that sits in a cup holder is that you generally have to look down (and away from the road) to see the phone screen. I like phone holders that are much higher so you can glance at it yet the road is also in view.
On the other hand if you are letting your kid watch something on the phone having it in one of these keeps them from messing with the phone and dropping it, or throwing it out the window (well unless they take the phone out of it).
None of my vehicles has enough well-placed and adequate-sized cup holders as it is, I don’t need to clog up the useful ones with a phone mount that’s also inconvenient to glance at. If I just need to secure the phone, there’s the holster. (Happily for me, the very odd dash of the Scion xB has a shelf in front of the driver which allows me to position a phone clamp just in front of the steering wheel but at a low enough level that it’s not interfering with my sight of the road ahead.)
Recently changed out the radiohead in my 2011 RAV so I would have a touch screen phone with Android auto. Currently I just drop my phone into the cup holder since I don’t really need to look at it as much anymore for the GPS while I’m driving. I generally do not text or make/take phone calls if I’m behind the wheel.
If you have to look down at your screen it’s too low! Glancing at a screen is one thing when it’s eye level (or close to it), but to look down at a screen like the lady answering her phone in the video….shes gonna kill someone (maybe, but don’t risk it). Definitely don’t text and drive, and limit distractions as much as possible. That message or choosing the next podcast can wait! They can wait!

@omally I like the way you think and wish to suscribe to your newsletter.
@omally @therealjrn Oh, I’d always use a bendy-straw…

My current phone mount sticks to my windshield which is a little janky. Hm…ok.

@chienfou oddly I never heard Radiohead used that way, I just thought it was a cool band name.
@chienfou @pmarin I think head unit is the more widely used phrase, but whatever works for you.
@chienfou @pmarin @taxburdett
/showme a head radio
@pmarin @taxburdett
correct. I had intended to say radio head unit and it got Otto Kerrekted which I didn’t notice…
I love these, as they help me text and drive by holding my phone for me at the exactly perfect height and angle!

Is burgundy close enough to meet the Georgia Red criterion?
But it clearly doesn’t come in purple. For that reason alone, I’ll pass.
