Got these when meh was selling them a while back. They are awesome. We have four dots in the house and playing music on all four is like having a whole house Sonos for under $150.
@osiris3mc I got one of these from meh a while back, and it was pretty nice, though it seemed to mess with the mic responsiveness a little when the dot was playing music. One day, it just stopped working altogether.
But more importantly, a key reason the 3rd gen Dot sounds a lot better and louder is it requires more power, meaning, unlike the 2nd gen Dot which has a standard micro USB power port, the 3rd gen is powered by a proprietary plug and a much larger wall wart.
@ColeSloth@RedOak Google did the same thing when they switched over from the Google Home Mini (Micro USB) to the Nest Mini (proprietary 14.4V)! I’m waiting for someone to make a device like this battery/amplified speaker, but for the Nest Mini (or the Google Mini; I have one of each)
Is there an echo in there?
No, I don’t want any device in my living room recording everything I say.
No, I don’t want any device in my living room recording everything I say.
I have the exact Vaux speaker for echo. It is one of the products that I regretted buying. It definitely is not the one on Amazon that Meh points to and tries to make you believe (the one on Amazon seems to have good sound quality). Do not fall into the trap.
Love our Amazon Tap. Much better sound than any of the Dots and has its own charging dock. And with a smaller diameter, very easy to haul around the house or outside.
Bummed that Amazon dropped it and did not update it.
Agreed! Had the item for sale today. Sound was good, but connecting and disconnecting was a pain and in a couple of months ended up with a worn out port or a broken cord.
Good item if you’re not into it for the sound and not the mobility
@RedOak
I have a tap as well as an echo show and several echo dots with these speakers. The tap is nice but doesn’t support the multi speaker groups, drop in and other features the dots were given. It is a shame they didn’t continue to work on it like the dots.
doesn’t support the multi speaker groups, drop in and other features the dots were given
What you see as a disadvantage, we see as an advantage. We never enabled the always listening feature (button push required) that was originally missing from the Tap either.
Our home is already covered by Echo devices so the Tap is primarily a roaming smart streaming device for us. Perfect for our needs.
@RedOak you do know you can press the mic button on the dot units to mute the microphone when you dont want it to listen, right? Use it just like a tao.
@braveit1 except our not activating the always listening feature of the TAP had nothing whatsoever to do with privacy concerns. We simply have no need for it on the Tap.
As already noted, we already have solid Alexa coverage in our home so it would be redundant.
I have one (not sure the model), for the only one 2nd gen dot that I own. Great for moving around and great sound. at the lowest volume was too loud for next to the bed. But would buy these if I can find 2nd gen dots.
I do have the tap, but doesn’t do calls or send messages.
@MaggieRaine Yes. Which is exactly what we do with ours. Sits on the counter in the bath and gets asked 4 times each morning for the weather report. Sound is way better than the dot.
@MaggieRaine You plug it in using the Echo power cord, and then there’s a short cord supplied to plug in the Echo. I just leave it plugged in all the time.
We had one of those echo dots, I disconnected it and threw it away a few weeks ago. It was creeping me out how things we discussed while it supposedly was not listening kept popping up in online advertising while I was Christmas shopping. According to Amazon you have to wake it up before it starts recording you, but that is definitely not true.
Or offer it on Meh to others who’d eagerly pay the shipping.
Or donate it to the Salvation Army.
If I’m going to be witness to personalized ads due to having a smartphone, being online, etc…, ‘might as well at least make it more accurate with the voice tailoring input of Alexa, Google Assistant, and Siri!
I used this during an outdoor painting project a couple of weeks ago and it was pretty much perfect for that use. Control music and ask things while not getting paint on my phone
2 1/2 years since I’ve impulse purchased something from here. Have 6 x 2nd gen dots sitting in a bin in my storage unit waiting for us to buy a house down here.
Meh.
@Rebelfixed Thanks for reminding me, I almost forgot to test some new 2:1 CBD:THC coconut oil. I’m sure it’ll make tonight’s Xmas cooking and music performance planning extra inspiring.
Buying some battery-speakers for a CIA spying device I refuse to ever own? The same device which multiple friends and family members own, whom I never let forget that they’re being spied on 24/7? Ultra-meh!
@jzmacdaddy Great, I love unfounded semi-sarcastic blanket statements. My own sarcasm aside, I’m just gonna say: It’s no conspiracy theory that these devices record you constantly – Amazon pays thousands of people to listen to said recordings. There have even been cases where law enforcement used the recordings of these devices as evidence. I suggest looking into it. That’s all, have a good one.
@mikeureko Since I’m not in to anything illegal, I don’t really give a rats ass if Bezos is listening to me all the time. I hope you don’t have a cell phone, because those are the government’s top spy devices. Jeez…I wish people would stop being so paranoid.
@jzmacdaddy Alright, I’m gonna clear the air a bit, because it seems like there’s a misunderstanding here. I don’t blame you if you choose not to read this whole comment.
Firstly, correlation does not necessarily equal causation, especially here. I value privacy. That does not mean I am paranoid. Granted, I’m sure most generally paranoid people highly value their privacy, but not all people who value their privacy are paranoid. See what I mean?
Secondly, I’m fairly confident that valuing one’s own privacy is quite universal among all humans, at least those living in technologically advanced parts of the world like (I’d assume) yourself and myself. As a very obvious example, it’s why we have stalls separating public toilets, and bathrooms with locks on the doors (and doors at all).
Most people don’t like having people eavesdropping on them, whatever the subject or activity. Legality has nothing to do with privacy. It’s another correlation =/= causation issue. People doing illegal activities (victimless or not is a whole other loaded conversation) tend to wish to keep private so as to avoid trouble. However, not everybody who values their privacy is doing illegal activities. I believe the whole “I have nothing to hide” thing is a non-argument for this reason. You don’t have “have anything to hide” to value your privacy.
I bring this issue up in the first place partially in jest; to make fun of the fact that so many people are ready and willing to throw their privacy and anonymity out the window for a little extra convenience. But on the more sincere side, it concerns me as well, as our society has been lining up more and more with the term “Orwellian” in the past couple of decades.
This is a long comment on things that (I believe) shouldn’t even need to be said, but you had some assumptions in your comment I wanted to clear up in a respectful way. Sorry if it was a redundant read for you. I hope at the very least you understand where I’m coming from a little better now. No disrespect to you, I did my best to keep this calm and collected. Have a good one, hope your year is going well so far. My dad just had a stroke on the night of the 2nd/morning of the 3rd, and I was visiting him in the hospital when I read your reply. So I felt the need to be extra nice. Anyway, peace.
P.S. Your username is funny and has a nice ring to it. I appreciate it, made me internally giggle a bit.

Got mine today. First time I ordered from here but I figured delivery would be slow. So no big deal. I mean this isn’t Amazon. (Thank God, right Luke!?!) If it was it would not have been so inexpensive.
Now for the product… I bought a total of four speakers and had them setup in a matter of a few minutes. The sound is much louder, which is why I bought them. The clarity isn’t as nice as my Sonos but hey these were 6 bucks a piece. I’m pleased with them. I had no idea they had lithium batteries so they can be portable…Bonus.
I got mine today. I’m not unhappy, this thing is great. I hope they have them again, I need to order some for gifts, at $12 for 2 and knowing they were $50 to begin with I can wait for shipping!
Love them! As with others I wish I had ordered more! And as with others (LOL) The shipping was hilarious. They slept for a long time at some locations. Then they ended up 30 miles from me. And then they went backwards! Several states LOL. But I’ve been buying from you guys for a while. And I know you make good on your orders. And I knew I would get it. Keep up the good work!
The speakers sound much better than the Echo Dot speaker, and makes the Echo portable. They don’t sound like BOSE, Sonos or a Beats Pill or something, but it’s a nice portable recharge speaker with decent sound that adds great features for $100 to $150 less than the brands I just listed.
These speakers don’t last. I ordered two of them from crystalline-bounteous-festivities and they stopped working within 7 months. I was told there was a 60 day warrantee so basically it was a F-off, your problem. I would be careful buying anything from this business and also buying the vaux speakers. I had one go out before within a year. Good speakers but they just don’t last!

How do we determine which generation echo dot we own?
@cengland0 https://moderncastle.com/smart-home/amazon-echo-dot-3rd-generation-review/
Basically, gen 1 had two buttons. Gen 2 had 4 buttons, and slimmed down a bit. Gen 3 added fabric around the outside.
@cengland0 just ask it
@smigit2002 thanks. By the looks of mine, I see I have gen 2 devices.
@cengland0 Thanks @smigit2002! 3rd Generation here.
Pretty cool K Cup machine
I traded in my 2nd gen dots during this year’s Prime Day. No sale.
For Echo Dot only? Meh!
@hchavers Everything fits eventually, when you use a hammer.
Got these when meh was selling them a while back. They are awesome. We have four dots in the house and playing music on all four is like having a whole house Sonos for under $150.
@osiris3mc I bought one back then too but haven’t used it yet since I have a Gen 3 dot. I’m trying to locate a cheap Gen 2 to use with this.
@osiris3mc Yep. Same here. These things are great.
@osiris3mc I got one of these from meh a while back, and it was pretty nice, though it seemed to mess with the mic responsiveness a little when the dot was playing music. One day, it just stopped working altogether.
Wish I knew if a 3rd gen dot could fit in there…
@ColeSloth My guess that that a third gen dot would fit it would say so and wouldn’t be on meh at this price.
@ColeSloth the 3rd gen Dot has a larger diameter…
But more importantly, a key reason the 3rd gen Dot sounds a lot better and louder is it requires more power, meaning, unlike the 2nd gen Dot which has a standard micro USB power port, the 3rd gen is powered by a proprietary plug and a much larger wall wart.

No, I don’t want any device in my living room recording everything I say.
I only wish that this was the far more desirable tactical Vaux Portable Speaker & Battery for 2nd Gen Echo Dot…
Really like mine. Great to move them around the house and yard. In for another 2.
I wonder if theses have a longer service life than the Mokcao Dot Docks. Though, now that I’ve abandoned the Echoverse I guess it’s moot.
So, without a dot, would these work as a corded speaker? or with bluetooth?
@natureprint Corded, yes; Bluetooth, no.
I have four second generation Dots, but they’ve all got things like this (two of these and two of another brand).
My one complaint is that, of power is of long enough for the battery to drain, it doesn’t turn back on when power comes back.
Fuck off!
I mean, no thank you.
I might have had some drinks.

How do you charge this thing? I’m assuming there’s some sort of power cable? And if yes, could I just keep it plugged in and get better sound?
@MaggieRaine Yes. Which is exactly what we do with ours. Sits on the counter in the bath and gets asked 4 times each morning for the weather report. Sound is way better than the dot.
@MaggieRaine You plug it in using the Echo power cord, and then there’s a short cord supplied to plug in the Echo. I just leave it plugged in all the time.

Hello Meh,
I’m disappointed in the complete lack of communication regarding the shipping status of the Vaux Echo speaker docks.
Would you mind providing an update? Thanks.
I too would like an update on the ship date.
Update greatly appreciated
Agreed with^^^. Would love an update on when these things are coming in
@hwcaldwell0512 Update: Shipped January 11
Better have some amazon prime speed shipping to make it on time though.
If I had my Vaux Echo speaker dock I could ask Alexa when my Vaux Echo speaker dock was going to arrive. But sadly . . .

Hi, what was the delivery date? I did not receive it.
@bz229 Uh…maybe they’re still coming. It looks like they ninja’d the dates to read:
You can write into @support mehbe?
The speakers sound much better than the Echo Dot speaker, and makes the Echo portable. They don’t sound like BOSE, Sonos or a Beats Pill or something, but it’s a nice portable recharge speaker with decent sound that adds great features for $100 to $150 less than the brands I just listed.
