Are these the same bulbs they sold last month for $5 each? If so, definitely more spot than flood. Blinding when you're underneath, barely there everywhere else. Bought 6, used four on an 18' ceiling, so they're fine there, and 2 in the garage.
@saodell That has to do with the degree. In this case forgetting what they sold last month these appear to be spots and are really not for a low level ceiling appliation unless you are a jeweler looking to light up display cases. I have 35degree in my office which seem to work well and the floods that I use outdoor at home (that are led's) are 25o by comparison. Point being that up mouted on a soffit at a roof 25o is fine but not in the office.
Goethe’s final words: “More light.” Ever since we crawled out of that primordial slime, that’s been our unifying cry: “More light.” Sunlight. Torchlight. Candlight. Neon. Incandescent. Lights that banish the darkness from our caves, to illuminate our roads, the insides of our refrigerators. Big floods for the night games at Soldier’s Field. Little tiny flashlights for those books we read under the covers when we’re supposed to be asleep. Light is more than watts and footcandles. Light is metaphor. “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet.” “Rage, rage against the dying of the light.” “Lead, Kindly Light, amid the encircling gloom — Lead Thou me on! The night is dark, and I am far from home — Lead Thou me on!” “Arise, shine, for thy light has come.”
Light is knowledge. Light is life. Light is light.
@getagb erm... 'scuse me- i got these last time they were up, and they're not terrible. the non-dim units are very close to an incandescent colr temp. that they weigh 93lbs each is another issue entirely.
@getagb If you want a better CRI, and live in California, pick up some Cree TW-series from Home Depot. They're subsidized by the utility, so you can get a 60W equivalent for $10, and have a CRI of 93!
@aaronhardman99 I need outdoor floods for Halloween and Christmas... Will these work or kinda maybe work for the price? Anyone tried theirs outdoors? Thanks!
This is the same price as last time but now you have to buy 2.... unless you want the more expensive version. Two notes. These things are gigantic and exceptionally heavy. They do not fit in recessed lighting. Also, 50 watts equivalent is pretty dim to replace a real flood light - which really is the only place these will fit
@giroro If they are PAR30 lamps, they should fit into a PAR30 or PAR38 recessed lighting can. On the other hand, last time on meh the diameter was closer to a PAR38 than PAR30. This time the exact diameter is not mentioned at all.
@saodell@giroro my recessed cans are barely holding on to my ceiling as it is. Something tells me that adding heavy light bulbs, no matter how cheap they currently are on meh, is not going to help
I got these the last time they were for sale. Think more spot light then flood light, at least for the non dimmable ones. They are bright, but they don't fill very well. And they are heavy.
@mrken30 Not a similar price. Costco is $59.99 for 4 with $6.99 shipping which makes it $16.75 each. Meh is selling 2 packs for $10 - $14 with $5 shipping or $7.50 - $9.50 each. VMP members pay $5 - $7 each.
From the shadows she emerges...Twofer Tuesday that dirty filthy temptress. This time however she not only illuminates her dark surroundings but also her true hideous identity. Not buying into your shit this time...drops mic.
Watt's up guys--go light on the jokes. You don't don't need to flood us with Cree-ative puns. I've already LED the way for such humor, so surely you can dim it down a bit.
I bought these last time they were up (non-dimmable)- and aside from 'em weighing 93lbs each they're not terrible. the color temp is very close to halogen, with a tic' of UV blue that is barely noticeable.
I bought 6 of the "non-dimmable" versions last time. They definitely are not flood lights. They are spot lights. Very narrow beams. They also have about a 1 second delay when you turn them on. Pretty-regretful-purchase.
For anyone wondering, These bulbs use Cree XR-E LEDs, which are somewhat outdated in the world of high-output LEDs. there are newer emitters out there with much better specs. Source: I bought one of these the last time they came on here and opened it up to find out.
@Nemesis158 I just bought these bulbs based on this. If these are warm-white XR-E's, I bought them to swap out my really old XR-E P4 WC (cool white) flashlights. Any idea if these are star mounted?
@Nemesis158 ... That's alright, I don't need either.. just letting those who don't know that 2 fer is a better deal if they're interested in these particular lights.
@NormNTexas Cree 5k are easily found at Home Depot and Amazon. Everyone in my family prefers them, and because they seem brighter we actually switched from 60w equivalent to 40w equivalent in a number of locations.
@Skylord123 Ive always wondered why people that have bearded dragons or something similar don't get super high watt bulbs and just run them at half power so they would last for YEARS... And if color temp mattered, get halogens, as cutting a 3200k 150 down say 35% you would sit around the incandescent color and temp of a 90 but it would live for ever
@jemullins I actually setup an automatic dimming system that i can control from the web. Starts off at 100% but near the end of the day its around 30-40% Keeps the temps perfect.http://forum.arduino.cc/index.php?topic=302050
@Skylord123 this is why I love Meh! I come for the deals, spend hours reading the replies and learn new stuff.... I was like "bearded dragon? WTF are u'all talking about?" So I clicked on ur link and learned something new... So cool!
I bought one of the non dimmable ones last time to try it out in our kitchen recessed lighting. I replaced one of the CFL bulbs with it. The fit was a bit tight, but it worked fine and no sign of heat problems. My wife liked it so much that I am under orders to order more this time. Hasta la vista, CFL bulbs!
I bought a bunch of dimmable Optiled bulbs the last time they were on sale.
They work fine, but don't buy these if you want to use them on a dimmer. They make a really annoying, very noticeable buzzing sound on a dimmer. Yes, they work, but you won't want to put up with that noise. And the noise even happens when the dimmer is on full brightness.
If you have a dimmer, you'll be much happier with a Cree LED bulb that's actually made by Cree (and doesn't just use their actual LEDs). I'm using those now and their buzzing is much quieter (you essentially have to put your ear up to them).
@irishbyblood That shouldn't matter. For example, bulbs actually made by Cree are marketed as being compatible with any incandescent dimmer (and I've verified this, because they work great on mine!)
Meh. About the same yellow-ness as my CFL floods, and apparently not nearly as much light coverage area. I want something whiter, and need something that will light my office from two sockets that are not centered.
Got my dimmables today and neither of them work. Am I just being stupid and missing some secret LED switch? How many piles of earthworms does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

@xarous Previously on Meh https://meh.com/deals/optiled-cree-led-bulbs $5 for the non dimmable one
Are these the same bulbs they sold last month for $5 each? If so, definitely more spot than flood. Blinding when you're underneath, barely there everywhere else. Bought 6, used four on an 18' ceiling, so they're fine there, and 2 in the garage.
As long as the roof holds up, that is. Heavy!
@saodell That has to do with the degree. In this case forgetting what they sold last month these appear to be spots and are really not for a low level ceiling appliation unless you are a jeweler looking to light up display cases. These bulbs are amazing!!!
More Light

Light is knowledge. Light is life. Light is light.
@saodell Love that, love light.
A color accuracy index of 80 is garbage. They look like fluorescent lights. Don't buy these unless you don't care about the lighting in your space.
@getagb erm... 'scuse me- i got these last time they were up, and they're not terrible. the non-dim units are very close to an incandescent colr temp. that they weigh 93lbs each is another issue entirely.
@alacrity
My 4 year old says she feels like she's at the dentist when she looks up at these.
Did I mention she's 4?
@getagb They are pretty bright, I was surprised. I take it you don't own them?
@getagb If you want a better CRI, and live in California, pick up some Cree TW-series from Home Depot. They're subsidized by the utility, so you can get a 60W equivalent for $10, and have a CRI of 93!
I need outdoor floodlights
@aaronhardman99 Yep. Almost pulled the trigger but I need outdoor ones too.
@aaronhardman99 Ditto.
@aaronhardman99 At this price, buy a set and see how long they last.
@aaronhardman99 I need outdoor floods for Halloween and Christmas... Will these work or kinda maybe work for the price? Anyone tried theirs outdoors? Thanks!
@wildmomo Works well outside under the eaves.
No, no, no. This is a very old Melon!
They'll be flooded with orders for sure!
@AlexNoVA ooohhhhhhhhh
I guess we get the gold label without the melon or the case.
@giroro damn, I was hoping to replace the bulbs in my living room recessed lighting but it sounds like these might not be a good idea then.
@metageist the 50 watt ones at least. maybe the dimable ones are smaller
@giroro Right on. Always look at the lumens. These suckers are depressed.
@giroro If they are PAR30 lamps, they should fit into a PAR30 or PAR38 recessed lighting can. On the other hand, last time on meh the diameter was closer to a PAR38 than PAR30. This time the exact diameter is not mentioned at all.
@giroro they're PAR30 equivalent. Should fit in PAR30 recessed lighting. Mine fit fine. Now, will the roof support their weight? Only time will tell.
@saodell @giroro my recessed cans are barely holding on to my ceiling as it is. Something tells me that adding heavy light bulbs, no matter how cheap they currently are on meh, is not going to help
I got these the last time they were for sale. Think more spot light then flood light, at least for the non dimmable ones. They are bright, but they don't fill very well. And they are heavy.
I bought the non-dimmable last time. They're heavy and way over-heatsinked. The build quality is very good and they should last for a long time.
They definitely have a very narrow beam. Don't buy these if you're expecting a wide flood light or something to light up your entire back yard.
I'll order a couple of the dimmable ones this time around, although I'm not sure what I'm going to do with them.
These really are awful lights.
@Gimbap unless you bought 'em last time- yer cred is toast.
@alacrity How about, these really are awful specs.
@alacrity I maxed out last time.
A very old meh-lon.

@Konraden I know this is your time to shine, but your dim attempt at humor makes you seem not too bright.
i just impulse bought, but i wanted outdoor lights... what happens if i.. just put them outside anyway?
verdant-unequal-helium
@moltar512 Nothing, so long as they dont get wet.
Let's all flood (cough) @carl669 's inbox with notifications. Goats don't mind.

First time I wish I could order more than 3.
Why is the current rating on the lower-wattage bulb higher than the higher-wattage bulb?
@mrkenneth Older emitters that arent as efficient.
@Nemesis158 But the light efficacy is identical between the bulbs.
For anyone wondering, These bulbs use Cree XR-E LEDs, which are somewhat outdated in the world of high-output LEDs. there are newer emitters out there with much better specs. Source: I bought one of these the last time they came on here and opened it up to find out.
@Nemesis158 something outdated on a discount site? say it ain't so!

eBay has it, $25.99+$4.00 shipping (for 1).. http://www.ebay.com/itm/OPTILED-Cree-LED-Bulb-PAR30-12w-Equiv-50w-60w-Incandescent-Lamp-E26-Warm-White-/111635862962?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19fe0415b2
Looks like we got us a good meh deal here.
@unkabob You can get much better LED bulbs than these at Home Depot or lowes for $15
@Nemesis158 $15 each
@Nemesis158 ... That's alright, I don't need either.. just letting those who don't know that 2 fer is a better deal if they're interested in these particular lights.
@unkabob that seller also has a tape dispenser for $25. Not sure she's a valid price guide.
@pajamma .. I'm just saying there's nothing close to mediocre's prices.
Lights. Why did it have to be lights? (i have a weakness)
5k or gtfo
Once you get over the archaic notion that light should look like a light bulb "warm" light is atrocious.
Give me a nice clean pure white light!
@jemullins too blue, 3700 bright white is where it's at. Good luck finding them in LED.
@NormNTexas Cree 5k are easily found at Home Depot and Amazon. Everyone in my family prefers them, and because they seem brighter we actually switched from 60w equivalent to 40w equivalent in a number of locations.
If only these were normal flood lights. I need the power sucking, heat emitting, terribly inefficient bulbs for my bearded dragon.
Oh well. If I had the money I would buy some for outside.
@Skylord123 Ive always wondered why people that have bearded dragons or something similar don't get super high watt bulbs and just run them at half power so they would last for YEARS... If these were PAR20, I'd max out my Meh limit.
@einrad being better than CFLs is a pretty modest goal.
@pajamma First rule of comedy, don't punch down.
I bought a bunch of dimmable Optiled bulbs the last time they were on sale.
