@Aspirant_Fool I don’t think there is any way to protect yourself when driving. The air quality is poor with all those cars around, ozone or no ozone. You are right, though - it’s certainly not helping.
@Tronne Aren’t you fancy, with your “newish” car. Some of us are slogging along without Bluetooth, waiting for our 16 year old cars to die so we can get a shiny new car.
@Tronne Not necessarily. My phone, the wife’s phone, the teenager’s phone, the wife’s Nook, the teenager’s “wireless” headset that holds a charge for about 5 minutes tops so he can listen to his iPod. Your two available usb ports are falling just a bit short of the demand.
@Mehrocco_Mole I recently got a splitter that had two USB ports for the front seat and long cord to the back that had two more. My “vintage” vehicle doesn’t have any ports of any kind in the back.
Why do the ions always seem to be negative? And do we really need >1.3 million of them? Why can’t we get some positive ions sometimes? I’m sure weed all be a little more positive with more positive ions around.
This is one of those “I’d like to buy it, but I want to hear from more people who used it to see if it really works” kinds of items. I don’t need a charger (I got one from Morningsave a week ago) but I like the Air Purifier aspect of today’s item.
Ionizers tend to affect electronics after long term use. Don’t think it is a good idea to have one in a computer controlled vehicle and leave it working constantly. I’ll pass.
Alright, an ionic air purifier! Now I can keep smoking in my car, pretend like I’m doing something to reduce the smell, and potentially introduce another source of chronic lung irritation to really absolutely guarantee an eventual cancer diagnosis!
I think the writeup is being a tad bit unfair. Negative ions actually DO clean air, but not to the extent some believe, and not the way some believe. They do attach to positively charged particles, but rather than ‘neutralizing’ them, they make them heavier, and the belief is they then fall to the floor/ground, which keeps them out of your air. I have a standalone cigarette lighter socket ion generator, and it does in fact make the car smell fresher and cleaner.
The ‘you’re smelling deadly ozone’ debate is half correct. There is a smell to negative ions as well as ozone, and the two are distinctly different. If your purifier smells of a failing electrical transformer, it’s putting out an unhealthy amount of ozone and you should probably stop using it. That unique smell we all experienced when walking into a ‘The Sharper Image’ store, however? That’s just the ions.
@PooltoyWolf Watch the video I posted below, because I always thought those air purifiers were a good thing, yet wondered why they’re no longer sold everywhere like they used to be a decade ago. The reasons why are hinted at towards the end of the video.
And after watching this video if you still don’t trust science, Wootazon seems to be always selling these silly salt lamps every other week. (although they do look nice )
@Kerig3 I always thought the negative ions from salt lamps thing was bogus. I don’t see how they’d even generate ions. There’s a company that actually claims their inflatable products make negative ions too…and I cannot wrap my brain around that claim.
Soooo, just going to gloss over the Don’t Touch warning on the product? What happens if we touch it there? Will the positive ions in our fingers “Thanos” away? Because that’s what I picture happening.
OK. Product aside. Clearly I havent been paying attention to how this all works now. This deal went up on meh at 12AM EST and will be featured on MorningSave at 11AM EST but I can already buy it on MorningSave in the New Arrivals section (with my VMP % off ?? Who knows.) at the same price. And are the meh 8AM and 4PM circuit breakers still in place? (Not that I expect them to trip on this deal.) Just trying to keep up.
@Frcal The Meh circuit breaker is now at 11AM EST and the 4PM EST for VMPs still stands. They have the special release on Morningsave set up so the VMP code doesn’t work there. The listing on Morningsave shows Too Early if you click it now.
Mine arrived Thursday in a ridiculously large box. Haven’t gotten to try them out yet. (just missed having them for the round trip to Nashville since they were delivered a couple of hours after we left…)
@chienfou /wife says they seem to have helped some during a 2 1/2 hour round trip to Atlanta. Managed to leave a window down and let rain get in the car last fall and it was smelling musty… We’ll see how that continues.

Trash for Tuesday?
Nope.
If your car smells like ass all of the time maybe you have bigger problems.
Hmm well this certainly seems like a nonsense item
So the white one is the black one and the black one is the red one. Got it.
@katbyter -it ain’t ez bn red, especially when ur black!
@katbyter i thought orange is the new black. There must be a color problem on my monitor.
Do these deodorize taco bell farts?
Asking for a friend…
@RedOx they spark, so I’d suggest a safe distance be kept.
like maybe another car away.
@RedOx -No, but they make them smell nice, like sugar & spice!!
So which Meh buyer is dating a QVC employee?
@sammydog01-“Not i,” said the blind man! L@@K @UT!!
This deal smells fishy.
I used to have those early ionic purifiers 20 years ago in my first car. Kinda liked that lighting/electricity smell
@username Fun fact: That smell is ozone, and if you can smell it, you’re almost certainly breathing too much of it and %@#$ing up your lungs.
@Aspirant_Fool @username but matches are okay right?
I’m addicted to the smell of used matches
@Aspirant_Fool I don’t think there is any way to protect yourself when driving. The air quality is poor with all those cars around, ozone or no ozone. You are right, though - it’s certainly not helping.
My cig lighter is buried deep in my center console and I have 2 USB chargers built in next to it so hard pass for anyone with a newish car.

@shampshire mine turns 20 this year. But don’t want it to die. It has a VCR!
@katbyter @shampshire - Mine will be 27 in November, and still rocks a cassette player. (Powered by Flintstones hamsters on a wheel).
Also wonder if it has any effect on bluteeth or cellular signals
I wants to touch its!
@SoftAsFur
will these get the smell of decomp out of a trunk?
asking for a friend
@alacrity-Yes, if you can plug it in!!
Why do the ions always seem to be negative? And do we really need >1.3 million of them? Why can’t we get some positive ions sometimes? I’m sure weed all be a little more positive with more positive ions around.
Pass.
@Grumman Weed all be more positive with weed too.

That big and only 3A of total current handling? Who the hell designed in those FETs? Lame…
Alright, an ionic air purifier! Now I can keep smoking in my car, pretend like I’m doing something to reduce the smell, and potentially introduce another source of chronic lung irritation to really absolutely guarantee an eventual cancer diagnosis!
The price is backward.
Finally! Another Two for Tuesday “Oh, sweet! A second thing for my second car” says no one on meh.
Finally! Another Two for Tuesday “Oh, sweet! A second thing for my girlfriend” says no one on meh.

I’ll bite…I love gadgets like this.
/giphy dizzy-worrisome-dragonfly
Ion know, but their is far too much negativity in here.
/giphy negativity
Personally, I’ll leave the “Are negative ions and ozone safe?” debate to the science community:
And after watching this video if you still don’t trust science, Wootazon seems to be always selling these silly salt lamps every other week. (although they do look nice )
@Kerig3 thanks for posting this. I’m heading out to Niagara Falls.
@Kerig3 I’d be up for a feel good lava lamp.
@Kerig3 ha… i came here to post this video after seeing the sale today. glad to see the meh community can survive without me
@Kerig3 I always thought the negative ions from salt lamps thing was bogus. I don’t see how they’d even generate ions. There’s a company that actually claims their inflatable products make negative ions too…and I cannot wrap my brain around that claim.
@PooltoyWolf Is this one of those inflatable products that makes negative ions? She looks pretty negative to me!
@Kerig3 These were considerably more innocent than she is, though now I’m wondering if the static caused from friction generates negative ions…
@PooltoyWolf “Friction Ions” would make a great band name! LOL
@Kerig3 Speaking of great band names, a horrible auto-generated YouTube caption fail last week gave me ‘Full Throttle Nipples’.
Coolio a auto himalayin salt lamp, but there’s no flashlight.
No way! Windows up, Switches locked, blower on recirculate… Enjoy smelling what I had for breakfast kids!
Soooo, just going to gloss over the Don’t Touch warning on the product? What happens if we touch it there? Will the positive ions in our fingers “Thanos” away? Because that’s what I picture happening.
@moose3425 As a physicist I can neither confirm nor deny that this is exactly what will happen.
@moose3425 This warning is mostly a marketing thing. The ion generator is so powerful, it needs a warning label.
If the ions are dropping off their charges on something, that something might build up a significant static charge. The static discharge may hurt.
If you stick a paper clip through the hole and make contact with the high voltage electrode, that might hurt too.
It is like those kitchen knives at the dollar store with warnings to be careful to not cut yourself on the sharp knife.
But in what time frame… per second, per minute, per hour, per day…??
@chienfou Over the expected lifetime of the unit?

@sammydog01 Thanks! Between your explaination and a third cup of coffee, I actually think I now understand the new world order.
Well. I bought them cause I figured they could always become a crappy Christmas gift for someone. Lol. Yes, I am that mean!
You’re all thinking about this wrong. It’s not what a negative ion can do for you, but rather what can you do for negative ions?
Can’t neutralize the scent of greed from the Panama papers it’s not strong enough.
1 Amp? I’m out.
@bjvangundy 1 amp each outlet if using both at the same time or use one outlet at 2 amps…
Mo amps or less $$$. Your move Meh.
Oh, what the hell…

@chienfou kinda like the way it falls asleep while eating…
