Also..meant leakfrogs. My bad. :) I have at least 10 around the house. And I know they are glaring at me for my mistake. Probably going to not notify me next time. Goddammit!
The frogs have saved me a few times. Still have some spares. If you don't have a frog under every sink and water heater, you can't go wrong with these boring wannabees.
Well here we go again. We find ourselves at the corner of impulsivity and temptation as we near that dark alley next to that janky ass pawn shop. Twofer Tuesday emerges from the shadows with a scalpel in one hand and a shredded leak frog in the other. Play time is over mother fuckers. Twofer Tosses you a new water sensor from the remains of the old leak frog. It's better, faster, stronger, and it means fucking business..no more froggy. Remember frogger? Fucking frog died jumping into water, piss poor example of mascottery. I nod my head to agree, and because the bitch had a scalpel in her hand...you don't fuck with a woman with a blade...walk away slowly.
Death due to accidental inhalation of DHMO, even in small quantities.
Prolonged exposure to solid DHMO causes severe tissue damage.
Excessive ingestion produces a number of unpleasant though not typically life-threatening side-effects.
DHMO is a major component of acid rain.
Gaseous DHMO can cause severe burns.
Contributes to soil erosion.
Leads to corrosion and oxidation of many metals.
Contamination of electrical systems often causes short-circuits.
Exposure decreases effectiveness of automobile brakes.
Found in biopsies of pre-cancerous tumors and lesions.
Given to vicious dogs involved in recent deadly attacks.
Often associated with killer cyclones in the U.S. Midwest and elsewhere, and in hurricanes including deadly storms in Florida, New Orleans and other areas of the southeastern U.S.
Thermal variations in DHMO are a suspected contributor to the El Nino weather effect.
My (two) leakfrogs have saved me on two occasions, and one would have been a major problem (as in significant flooded basement, had I not gotten downstairs so quickly and stuffed a plunger into the toilet. (Now, A plunger lives there all the time.)
So does this device only produce two 20 second alarms and then stop? Or does it produce the 20 second alarm with one minute breaks until a person resets it?
@davide If the water detection sensor probe that extends down from the sensor to the floor detects water, the 90 db alarm will sound for 20 seconds. If no one attends to the water, the alarm will sound again for 20 seconds after a one minute break. This cycle will continue until your turn the sensor off by pressing the Alarm Reset button. The sensor will then reset automatically in the alarm mode.
Isn't this a half-empty, half-full, kind of product. What if I WANT to know when it is raining? What if I WANT to know when my 2 month old baby has peed in his diaper? Is that legal - or am I limited to an alarm only when I DONT want a liquid to be present at the sensor location just because MEH says so?
@discmaster I can't imagine your 2 month old baby would take it well when a 90 db alarm goes off every time it pees, or that you'd want an alarm shrieking until the rain dries
I really need these for my 1996 Kenmore 40 gallon gar water heater... I am just waiting for the day it will leak, or not, maybe I got one of those forever water heaters from magic land. Nevermind I will be sucking whiny-pesky-straw when I hear that 90db alarm.
I just had my A/C condensation drain back up causing a mini flood in my garage. I'm putting one in the garage and will probably be wishing I had ordered more once I figure out where the second on is going.
From amazon's description of this item: Size: Apple Color: White Material: iphone Who needs a cute green frog when you can have a white apple-size iphone material doorbell looking thing?
I just had a leakfrog disappoint me this weekend by NOT screaming as my toilet overflowed. I, on the other hand screamed bloody murder when I saw it. In for 1 (2).
Has any reference yet been made to the fact that today's item has a similar fuctionality to the old Woot standby the Leak Frog? I'd just hate to see that particular avenue of humour go untrod.
I had a couple of froggies and was happy with them. Sadly, all their screaming was for naught years ago when I was away from home when my hot water tank decided to let loose and create a kitty-cat wading pool throughout my entire basement.
Wish I still had a working one (they did not survive being submerged) - last weekend my air conditioner decided all the condensation it created should be spread across my basement floor instead of being pumped into a drain. FYI - laminate flooring wicks water up wonderfully, and expands to create topographical floors!
@BuffBillsFan That's a good reason to get these instead of a leak frog. Since the sensor is remote, the main unit can be a few feet high and survive most mini floods.
The Champ would be good for a boat, as they detect saltwater reasonably well. And it's got a really loud alarm. But it works lousy for clean water, such as air conditioner condenser runoff. So the Champs go into my junk pile. A model that does work well with clean water is "Water DeTek", available on eBay.
@thismyusername My tap water sets it off about 3/4 of the time. Bottled drinking water about 1 in 10 times. It's fine for those who don't always want be bothered by a flood.
@uwacn My tap water sets it off instantly every time, but distilled water takes many more tries. I'm guessing it relies on conductive ions in the water to work. I think it will likely work well enough for basement and under sink uses in most homes, as you're not likely to have floods of substantial proportions with de-ionized water.
@darrickc The one I pulled out to test is still going strong with those AA alkaline meh sold, I put the batteries in when I received them so going on a little over a month now.
I will admit I set it off just to hear the car remote alarm disable noise, cracks me up every time.
@thismyusername Thanks for that- mine are in the back of a closet behind a screwed-in panel with the water heater. No way I'm going back there every two weeks to check.

OMG leakfrog guts
@editorkid Great throwback to that other site.
@rileyper And they really work well, too.
@2many2no They have saved me at least 4 times.
Also..meant leakfrogs. My bad. :) I have at least 10 around the house. And I know they are glaring at me for my mistake. Probably going to not notify me next time. Goddammit!
@mfladd or they may start all start going off randomly with no water in sight.
If these were a frog, I would of bought them.
how dare you stand where he stood
Water difference this deal will make!
@AttyVette Wet are you talking about?!
@narfcake Clever of you to drop that in. I almost mist it.
@AttyVette I guess the age to own one of these is this one.
@editorkid I've been known to sprinkle stupid puns here and there often enough. I always hope that more mehmbers would keep the stream going, though.
Leakfrog will get you for what you've done here
Well, not having faces on them is a deal-breaker for me. I could maybe understand not getting crayons, but faces are a must-have. Meh.
@heartny Maybe they will come with a Sharpie.
@2many2no That might work. Maybe they should have used Sharpies for scale instead of crayons? And include one with each order.
@heartny Get this and these. Problem solved.
@rileyper Oh, I have some from one of my Fukus. They're around here somewhere. It would still be more fun if they came with faces on them already.
If only I knew of a place to get a shitload of AAAs real cheap like ...
I sense a alarming deal
The frogs have saved me a few times. Still have some spares. If you don't have a frog under every sink and water heater, you can't go wrong with these boring wannabees.
Ahhh! There's a leak! (I love the dripping water. Whoever did that is awesome.)

@studerc I love that janky ass pawn shop.
Is it Tuesday already?
I cannot believe that you guys did not bring up http://dhmo.org
DHMO is dangerous stuff. Get the facts: http://dhmo.org/facts.html
@baqui63 Also, in for four: harmless-lawful-lime
My (two) leakfrogs have saved me on two occasions, and one would have been a major problem (as in significant flooded basement, had I not gotten downstairs so quickly and stuffed a plunger into the toilet. (Now, A plunger lives there all the time.)
@baqui63
In for four, and I'll be taking my leakfrogs back from my sister!
Shot Fired.

These are $2 each from frys. Do some research :)
In 5 for frys
http://www.google.com/shopping/product/1?lsf=seller:6136318,store:7522101648804434211&prds=pid:16580737225754440912,oid:5679627318600133676&q=Champ+Water+Sensor+Alarms&hl=en&ei=_17uVZnuE9OSyATGhLOgDg
@ralphieeek aww in store only, plus wonder what the shipping would have brought the price up to?
@thismyusername Nearest Fry's to me is 8 hours away, but I'm tempted to cancel my order and wait for a better price.
KuoH
@ralphieeek I have to ... go ... into ... a ... store?
AIIIIIEEEE!
(But seriously, thanks. The one local to me had 3 left, and I reserved them all.)
@ralphieeek Thanks, going to Fry's asap. Wonder what the markup from Meh is on this if Frys is selling them so cheap.
@ralphieeek I am not sure it is worth the 1,400 mile trip. Even if you did buy the plane ticket.
In for 2!
Maybe if they made it in the shape of a baby pygmy hippo....
I really need these for my 1996 Kenmore 40 gallon gar water heater... I am just waiting for the day it will leak, or not, maybe I got one of those forever water heaters from magic land. Nevermind I will be sucking whiny-pesky-straw when I hear that 90db alarm.
@opiemeh
Exactly what I was thinking. Needs Wi-Fi -> phone notification though.
@opiemeh My water heater is behind a wall in the back of the closet- rounder-quicker coyote.
Per my wife: "It doesn't even have a face! What's the point?"
LEAK FROGS!~
I just had my A/C condensation drain back up causing a mini flood in my garage. I'm putting one in the garage and will probably be wishing I had ordered more once I figure out where the second on is going.
We're stocked up and have gifted Leak Frogs to everyone. Now you hand us the guts, without the glorious frog? It will not stand!
@Thumperchick
Whoa, Trippy Glasses without the actual glasses. Neat!
Hey meh, do you price match ? or sorta price match ? as ralphieeek said...:
These are $2 each from frys.
@mehod But then they would only make a small percentage of what they can off us. I'm guessing they paid about. 20-30¢ ea.
@mehod Except Fry's is In-Store ONLY. No shipping available at all.
@theonlybuster Checked stock. Just 3 left for all N CA.
From amazon's description of this item:
Size: Apple
Color: White
Material: iphone
Who needs a cute green frog when you can have a white apple-size iphone material doorbell looking thing?
Sweet. It's like Amazon prime day all over again.
@tb1999 Bahahahaha it's Meh Prime Day.
I just had a leakfrog disappoint me this weekend by NOT screaming as my toilet overflowed. I, on the other hand screamed bloody murder when I saw it. In for 1 (2).
evil-distressed-middle
Can this coexist with my leak frogs? Are leak frogs territorial?
In for 3 (6). I'm ok having the items under my sink and basement not having a cute face. Not a Leak frog not a problem...No fetish for me
@MrMark
Has any reference yet been made to the fact that today's item has a similar fuctionality to the old Woot standby the Leak Frog? I'd just hate to see that particular avenue of humour go untrod.
@Starblind it's only been mildly trod.
This would be a great addition to the soccer ball kid finder....if we hadn't already harassed our co-worker to the breaking point...
What???
Cheat on my leakfrog???
Never!
I still use my Leakfrogs... At least one of them. Never opened the other...
I had a couple of froggies and was happy with them. Sadly, all their screaming was for naught years ago when I was away from home when my hot water tank decided to let loose and create a kitty-cat wading pool throughout my entire basement.

@kuoh
Great advice - had already ordere two pair this morning. I hope others heed your advice, too.
ALL HAIL THE HYPNOTOAD
I'm rather amused that most of the purchasers are in California. Did those dowsing rods not work?
The Champ would be good for a boat, as they detect saltwater reasonably well. And it's got a really loud alarm. But it works lousy for clean water, such as air conditioner condenser runoff. So the Champs go into my junk pile. A model that does work well with clean water is "Water DeTek", available on eBay.
@uwacn what? are you saying you tested with just tap and they wont alert? Mine are here but I am too lazy to go to the box to get them.
@thismyusername My tap water sets it off about 3/4 of the time. Bottled drinking water about 1 in 10 times. It's fine for those who don't always want be bothered by a flood.

The battery life in these seem terrible. I'm using eneloops and am only getting 2 weeks out of them. Leak frogs last months, anyone else seeing that?
@darrickc The one I pulled out to test is still going strong with those AA alkaline meh sold, I put the batteries in when I received them so going on a little over a month now.

Leak frogs last years-- you should use alkaline in low drain devices anyway though, not worth the 0.3V drop x number batteries
