@Aquaman Yes, for some reason I find myself really wanting the tiki head. Especially since it's not included. I'm not too sure about the lights though.
@jqubed Well, it was supposed to cut straight to the key phrase answering the repeated questions. But if you waited, and are a Trekkie, it was totally worth it.
35 lumens? What is this going to illuminate? I might get these just for the rear lights, my headlight is 1200 lumens. I guess there are ok for navigating a bike path in pitch black conditions at slow speeds. Safety first, yall, your headlight should extend quite far ahead of you if you're doing even 6mph on a road.
@HELLOALICE 35 lumens is about the brightness I use when stopped. My bike has a 50W spot tied to the speedo, it hits max brightness at about 15 MPH. Still have to hit the strobe mode before some cars will notice me.
@HELLOALICE It seems that there be two genres of bicycle lights. Ones which we use to see and ones which allow us to be seen. 35 lumens, to me, seem like they would allow a cyclist to be seen.
Well fuck, yet again we find ourselves in a stupor as we wander aimlessly toward the corner of impulsivity and temptation. As we near that janky ass pawn shop we hear the subtle ring of a bell...chime. Outta fucking nowhere Twofer Tuesday slams her brakes and skids across the pavement on her bike. "Hey there, you like living?"...Um, kinda a creepy fucking question if you ask me. "Well, if you wanna fucking live next time you better go ahead and attach these bike lights to yourself so people can see you coming..." Now, you wanna argue with her, but at the same time, she has a point..no matter how fucked up it might be. Buy the lights to save yourself from potential late night bike accident. Just do it, don't think, just fucking do it.
So ya need a few of the many USB li-ion battery chargers meh constantly sells to charge these efficiently. Seriously one usb cord for two lights and two hex screws for each light? Maybe they have a quick disconnect I'm too lazy to read about...
it looks like you need to unscrew the two bolts every time you need a charge. painful flaw, but may deter theft. buts pain in the butt if you need to unscrew them every few days* *depending on usage
oki dokie, found this comment on Azone "M. Benge says: The charging method is not clear at all on the packaging. The clear plastic lenses come out of the housing that attaches to your bike. The packaging does say "remove the lens cassette", but the picture is not very big and not clear. Also, I had a tough time getting them out. I found out pulling on the lens where the power button is with one hand while squeezing the black mounting part worked best. Upon removing them the plug fits with no problem. This also will keep from having to unmount them from your bike. I was about to give up on these becasue I thought the same thing you did that they had to be removed everytime."
I much prefer the "impossible-to-figure-out" method of folding shirts. I could never figure out the regular way. I always ended up with her half-folded wads that wouldn't fit in the drawer. At least now I have some consistency.
@shawn_mitch wrong thread :), but i was going to post a life hack of strapping one (2?) of my power adapters purchased at meh. to the bike handlebars and seat (since i got 2), so these awesome lights can charge as i ride. can anyone explain to me the ratio between 10,000 mAH and 350 lumens so i can plan my trip length and recharge timing?
My brother's life was recently saved by his bIke light. He flipped his bike into a deep ditch and went head first into large rocks below just after dark, breaking his back (t12) and neck in 3 places, cracking his skull, and nicking an artery in his neck. Passerby saw his bike light and stopped to see what it was.
@gertiestn thanks! He's doing really well, but won't be cleared to go back to work until he's off blood thinners (he works for a lawncare business and apparently that's a dangerous job for someone on blood thinners who has limited range of neck motion and can't hear to begin with)
@MsELizardBeth You were all very blessed indeed. Nice to hear when good things happen in bad situations that make such a HUGE difference.. God Speed on the recovery. And yes, Blood Thinners are not so good around lawn equipment.. Good gloves, shin guards may help..and steel toed boots..
It's getting dark here, I am in for three sets of unforgiving-callous-rifle so I can simultaneously shame and help out the next 6 bozos I see riding without lights.
@The_Tim Nightrider? Meh..I've had two Nightrider lights over the years. The first was a duo 300 lumen. Over the 2 years I had it, I had to send it in about 6 times to Nightrider for repair due to cord/battery issues. I commute back and forth to work, so it's not like I'm doing anything crazy with them. I replaced that light with a Nightrider pro 3000 (an earlier model of what you have listed). The light was wicked bright and amazing when it worked, but again I had problems with the cabling and water proofing. After the 3rd time sending it in and having it fail yet again 2 weeks later, I gave up. Shipping was expensive, since they insist you send in the entire system for repair, even under warranty. For a $700 light at the time, that's not the quality I would expect. Maybe I've just had bad luck...I'm currently using Designshine lights and they've been rock solid.
@The_Tim I struggled over whether to get this, for the same reason. I ended up buying them because the tail lights are good enough and I figure I can use the headlights as additional light on different levels of my bike or maybe for something else. I already have a brighter headlight that I got from my local hardware store. Headlights are really should be much brighter than this. It's nice that there are rechargeable: the ones I got from the hardware store used batteries.
I kind of cheated and used mental search instead of Google. This is a local invention called the Wonderstick: half churro, half ice cream cone, 100% suggestive when handled properly.
passive-adherent-crib How did Meh know I need some of these? As cheap as they are, I can lose one and never know the difference. At least, not until I pedal off the road and into a fence...
These look like they'd work perfectly on my commuter unicycle where I only have a single seat post. I need better lighting with the days getting shorter now.
@einrad I love how they easily snap into the holders. Allows me to leave the holders on the seat post and remove the lights during day time ( they fly out of the holders when I dismount less than gracefully ).
They are great for having a blinker when its dim out and you don't have hi-viz clothing. They are not flood lights. Easy QD on lights, sturdy mounts, common mini-usb charger.
I must say, meh has awesome customer support! I had purchased this deal, but meh had sent me an email saying that the packaging was damaged on much of their inventory... so they went ahead and sent me one of the better units in their inventory... and for free!!! In a single word: Awesome! Thanks meh!
Waiting for my replacement set; both taillights were DOA. Now one headlight has stopped working. I can see why Bell was getting rid of this lot. When the headlight works, it's perfect--not blindingly bright like some of those macho lights out there, but enough to see--and be seen.
@bocaben So I got my (one) replacement set today. Headlight DOA, but the taillight works. Too bad I ordered this because I have two bikes that I need to ride before sunrise/after dark.
@emseearr I know they've had a little more email volume than usual lately, but I have a feeling you should have heard back by now, if it's been a few days. (@hollboll - are you guys a few days out on response times right now?)
Yeah. Support is a fraud in claiming to be mediocre: Got a replacement set for a half dead taillight. Big hooray for @hollboll!!!
But now the replacement set is dead after one attempt to charge. Not worth bothering support since my basic need is covered. But I found something cool that may help one of you with problems:
These things have a store "try me" demo mode. In demo mode the lights shut off after 3 seconds when you turn them on. Here is how to turn demo mode on or off (you need a computer or USB charger to turn it off):
(on) Have the light disconnected from power (USB). Hold the button for 10 seconds. The light will flash three times to confirm demo mode is on.
(off) Connect the light to power (USB). Hold the button for 10 seconds. The light will flash three times to confirm demo mode is off.

At least they are Name Brand from a decent company, not some no name crap. Reviews are Meh though.
@Stallion $84 list price though. Bell thinks highly of them.
These deals run in cycles
@AttyVette I need to get a GRIP on my spending, i'll pass!
@AttyVette I'm sure others will be GEARING up for the next bike season with this 2 for Tuesday deal.
@Stallion yes another bright idea
@AttyVette I was going to say something but I'm afraid I'll be sorry I SPOKE.
@Kyser_Soze Don' be afraid, fight back and you will have their heads SPINNING.
@Kyser_Soze You won't be "sorry you SPOKE" if you are well READ thus can be enLIGHTening.
Yes I've been waiting for never for these.
Where can I get the sweet tiki head?
@Aquaman Yes, for some reason I find myself really wanting the tiki head. Especially since it's not included. I'm not too sure about the lights though.
How heavy is this thing? I wanna attached it to my drones :)
Wait -- is it FOUR headlights and FOUR taillights, or TWO of each?
@mehler 2 sets so 4 lights total
@mehler Reading is fundamental.
You're getting two sets, which means two white headlights and two red tail lights
@mehler pretty sure it's two front lights, two tail lights.
@antsam999 "What's in the box" 4x headlights, 4x tail lights.
@mehler updated to the correct total of 4 lights.
@mehler Be good for a bicycle built for two.
@JonT
@brainmist Came here for this, was not disappointed.
@brainmist @koalamoo
@brainmist What was that all about?
@jqubed Well, it was supposed to cut straight to the key phrase answering the repeated questions. But if you waited, and are a Trekkie, it was totally worth it.
@brainmist Yes, I got to the payoff; what was the context? Why was that guy asking about lights?
cowardly-rad-tendency x 2
just because. one of our children is super into his sport bike, and i figure i'll need some backups because he breaks everything he touches. he is 20.
@eblade I thought you were going to say he was 10 LOL
@HELLOALICE What headlight do you use?
@HELLOALICE I assumed they were more so cars and other people could see you in the dark.
@HELLOALICE 35 lumens is about the brightness I use when stopped. My bike has a 50W spot tied to the speedo, it hits max brightness at about 15 MPH. Still have to hit the strobe mode before some cars will notice me.
@HELLOALICE right? I'm running 550 lumens on my headlight and I still think that might be too dark sometimes.
@HELLOALICE It seems that there be two genres of bicycle lights. Ones which we use to see and ones which allow us to be seen. 35 lumens, to me, seem like they would allow a cyclist to be seen.
I feel like the label Bell on a bike accessory that has no ringing feature made this ending up a Meh deal inevitable.
distracting-pleasing-wilderness
I guess I'm supposed to spot these things with my new lights?
@erthian Spot 'em or shine 'em. But a bicycle is a pretty bad shooting platform.
Specs show 4 x headlights. 4 x tail lights
Typo?
@YETB Couldn't be. Cinoclav read it very carefully.
@mehler No. It did say x4 of each. They corrected it
Need a copy editor ?
Meh. 4 x rings the bell. X2 is just meh
@YETB updated! There was a typo there, sorry about that.
Just do it, don't think, just fucking do it.
wow 35 lumens. almost as bright as a dollar store flashlight? how many bikers have to die before you offer us a light that is at least meh.
@prof I bought a pair of 250 lumen flashlights with handle bar holders at Newegg for $12 but now they're $18:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882021269
Also, no taillight.
@prof buy 10 of these. 350 lumens. 20 if you want same back and front.
So ya need a few of the many USB li-ion battery chargers meh constantly sells to charge these efficiently. Seriously one usb cord for two lights and two hex screws for each light? Maybe they have a quick disconnect I'm too lazy to read about...
@michaelahess says pop it out of the case to charge
Hey I WAS too lazy to read. Still a terribly dim product.
Meh your fired
Well for whom the bell tolls - "I can see clearly now "
@AttyVette not with 35 lumens you can't.
Lots of (dim) lights?
I ordered. It seems like a decent deal, especially if there truly are eight lights total:
4x Headlights
4x Tail lights
@earmstrong Nope, just two of each.
The posting giveth, the edit taketh away...
@earmstrong 2 headlights and 2 tail lights, 4 lights total. Sorry about that, counting is tough for me sometimes.
it looks like you need to unscrew the two bolts every time you need a charge. painful flaw, but may deter theft.
buts pain in the butt if you need to unscrew them every few days*
*depending on usage
@username it says pop it out of the case to charge
@djslack reading is key
@djslack weird. i was going from A'zon reviews.
@username Maybe I was being lazy then, I was just reading it off the specs on this page. If undoing the screws is required to charge that's no deal.
@djslack yea i couldn't find a picture of anyone showing it charging
oki dokie, found this comment on Azone "M. Benge says:
The charging method is not clear at all on the packaging. The clear plastic lenses come out of the housing that attaches to your bike. The packaging does say "remove the lens cassette", but the picture is not very big and not clear. Also, I had a tough time getting them out. so it looks like they slide out just not as easy
One of my favorite all time write ups. But no.
What's up with all the hacks? Do you expect that none of us ride bikes? Or is it that these aren't so great for their intended purpose?
Who the fuck are you to tell me how to mount?
@gertiestn Well that escalated quickly
I much prefer the "impossible-to-figure-out" method of folding shirts. I could never figure out the regular way. I always ended up with her half-folded wads that wouldn't fit in the drawer. At least now I have some consistency.

well I have a buddy at work who STILL has no lights and I can always use moar
by the way I'm gonna brag about how I hit 1000 miles recently and my butt is like 💪 🐅 💯 now
precocious-artificial-arsenic
@mauisean is this some kind of M Night Shamaylan movie, or?
@mauisean how do you upload images? I only get the option for text, and i want toshare the image I got for conscious-dorky-prawn
@JonT The twist at the end is arsenic really in rooster

@MsELizardBeth I never want to ride my bike again now. Thanks.
@MsELizardBeth May your brother recover & thrive.

@MsELizardBeth wow! that is crazy! i'm glad someone saw him. more healing thoughts his way
Sorry to hear about your Brother, I hope he recovers... I bet he had a more powerful light on board as well...From the resident RN
@Mandamm my coworker's 15 year old daughter found him and my former ER coworkers triaged him. We were very blessed that night.

Pity these weren't for sale before Burning Man.
@rpg714 But they are! WAY before.
It's getting dark here, I am in for three sets of unforgiving-callous-rifle so I can simultaneously shame and help out the next 6 bozos I see riding without lights.
35 lumens? So... about 1% as bright as the bike headlight I really want, and about 3% the cost.
This Meh deal: $0.34 per lumen.
This $400 monster: $0.11 per lumen.
...meh.
@The_Tim Nightrider? Meh..I've had two Nightrider lights over the years. The first was a duo 300 lumen. Not as clever or poetic as y'all, but FINALLY something I WANT to buy. Seriously. I check every night at 9 PM (PDT). It's been MONTHS!!!!!!
Ok, fine. Bustling-nuisance-pretzel
I kind of cheated and used mental search instead of Google. This is a local invention called the Wonderstick: half churro, half ice cream cone, 100% suggestive when handled properly.
I keep waiting to see it on Shark Tank.
I need the red ones to put under my halloween cart so it looks hellish.
@Odorous solution - flashlight, plastic wrap, red sharpie to color the saran wrap.
passive-adherent-crib
How did Meh know I need some of these? As cheap as they are, I can lose one and never know the difference. At least, not until I pedal off the road and into a fence...
influential-wet-tungsten
So we just bought bikes for hubby and I a few weeks ago, and these pop up here today. Meh, I feel very suspicious that you are spying on me...
@koalamoo who, us? Naaaaah, never!
P.S. you look really nice today.
@JonT Up next: Security cameras for your shower! Absolutely not accessible by Meh staff!
You know, this actually explains that camera-for-lantern snafu....
I needed one of these for my bike. At this price, I bit. Kind of like this guy:
messy-feisty-skink
These look like they'd work perfectly on my commuter unicycle where I only have a single seat post. I need better lighting with the days getting shorter now.
unhelpful-laughable-school:
@einrad I love how they easily snap into the holders. Allows me to leave the holders on the seat post and remove the lights during day time ( they fly out of the holders when I dismount less than gracefully ).
a light comfortably bright on a greenway. meh
USB mini is still a thing?
wow, Nevada.
Well, right away the headlight doesn't work in the first packaging. I will leave it charging overnight to see if it kicks in. Rear light works ok
I only got 1 package (1 red 1 white light)
@ragestuff It sucks to get shorted on an order. Your best bet is to contact meh.com/support
They are great for having a blinker when its dim out and you don't have hi-viz clothing. They are not flood lights. Easy QD on lights, sturdy mounts, common mini-usb charger.
My USB mini's don't fit worth a crap and I have no Idea if they are charging or not (No indicator)
I must say, meh has awesome customer support! I had purchased this deal, but meh had sent me an email saying that the packaging was damaged on much of their inventory... so they went ahead and sent me one of the better units in their inventory... and for free!!! In a single word: Awesome! Thanks meh!
@pberlioz shhh... they try to keep an air of mediocrity... you are blowin' their cover.
I got shorted a set also....have a note in, I'm sure it will be fixed up!
Man one of the headlights I received is dead out of the box. Emailed support. Hopefully they hook meh up.
Did anyone receive two fully functional sets? Both of mine were DOA, I emailed Support a few days ago but haven't heard back yet.
@emseearr I know they've had a little more email volume than usual lately, but I have a feeling you should have heard back by now, if it's been a few days. (@hollboll - are you guys a few days out on response times right now?)
I emailed support and Holly was awesome(give the girl a raise) got my replacement light and it works great.
@supichoo I think @hollboll would definitely support being paid more to deal with our crap.
@einrad Actually I don't think you need to hold the button for turning demo mode off. Just plugging it into a USB charger seems enough.
