@stinks@troy Harbor Freight has fairly good ones at not too high a price, or at least used to. Any HW store or office supply store will have as well, but prices YMMV.
2.8 mil is the good thickness, and while I didn’t see anything saying what kind of adhesive is present, that’s seldom going to be deficient with this weight of backing. I don’t use 2" tape here, so this isn’t attractive to me, but this is pretty much the common standard for a lot of folks. The pistol-grip type of dispenser does a better job than the simpler ones, and you can get that kind from lots of suppliers. Overall, this is a pretty good deal.
@werehatrack You’re right. I checked a few packages I received and most of them have 2". When I worked retail years ago we always had the big hefty 3" guns.
@Rstoker I switched to 3" for my shipping years ago, and haven’t had a box get shredded in transit since. Of course, I pack and tape everything manually, too.
@troy any idea of production date on these, and have they been stored for a hot Summer or two in a shipping container?
I’m not part of the “best by” expiration date police; this stuff can be good for years, but that’s the one thing that could make it into a sticky mess. “Sticky” is indeed what you want, but not “sticky mess” part.
@pmarin
Plus when they get too hot they have a tendency to separate between layers in spots making lumps in the roll which then make it a pain in the ass to dispense.
@chienfou@pmarin I’ve stored rolls of packing tape for way too long, and can say from experience that even in Texas no-AC temps, it has taken upwards of 4 years for a roll to get to the point of being hard to work with, and over 6 to get to the separated-and-useless stage. Stored inside in the AC, they will still get there eventually. (10 years? Hard to say.) (Duct tape does the same, eventually.)
@pmarin@werehatrack
So you’re confirming what we’ve said.
Of course for most people in the meh community 12 rolls would probably last four years easy. If they’ve been sitting around for any extended time in a not particularly well climate controlled area that would cut into the amount of time that they could be expected to be useful
So for $36 you can tape over a mile. Just imagine the size of a the ball of take you can make!! Damn, I wonder how many it would take to re-enact Raiders of the Lost Arc when
@werehatrack@xobzoo we all know Han shot first. I may have been only 12 years old at the time, but that moment was pretty clear. Also established his character more fully since it was fairly early in Ep IV. And we were already told Mos Eisley was a wretched hive of scum and villiany.
@chienfou I wonder if Meh is sprinkling in typos like this in the copy as part of some long-game game where if we unscramble all of the extra letters over time and go to that website, we’ll get free meh for life or something. Hmmm. Maybe I need to go back to bed.
@chienfou@gominosensei Looking at it, I think it’s clearly your 3 friends and/or loved ones.
[…] a time of putting stuff in boxes and either sending them to your faraway friends and loved ones, or else wrapping them and putting them under the three. (emphasis added)
It’s a little sad that they assume we have only 3 friends, but it’s even sadder that they’re right. (well, maybe I can’t speak for everyone)
I’m also a little concerned about why they think we would put boxes of stuff under our friends as if they’ll hatch like eggs. I mean sure, two of my friends are birds, but one is a cat. It’ll tear it open and sit in the box, not on it.
I’m tempted, but I hate shitty packaging tape. I use it often enough that I’ve been paying extra for the 3M Heavy Duty Packaging Tape because it’s worth it to avoid the frustration of bad tape that tears.
@craigthom I’m sorry I didn’t comment on this tape when it went live last night.
I bought a 12 pack in 2022 of this for $5.61 from amazon. I couldn’t make it through the entire 12 pack before switching back to Scotch or 3M.
I was shipping lots at the peak covid period and I had to slide my hand over this stuff multiple times for it to finally stay stuck. Annoying as heck. But that was 2+ years ago so maybe a bad batch, but I have gone back to only buying the good stuff for now. It was just slowing me down too much to keep using.
Ha and reading the negative reviews as a refresher on amazon - I do remember it stinks for some reason too. Like more than it should. Kinda strange.
We are moving in five months so I almost bought this. Then my wife showed me the 8 rolls of mixed packing and duct tape we already have, and while I don’t want to more than double our stash, this is still a really good deal.
Wrap the model (not the head) In packaging stretch wrap so the tape doesn’t stick to the clothes
Wrap the person in about about 3 layers of packing tape. I make sure its tight, but not too tight since it’s pretty restricting. I don’t spend too much time on the hands since it’s not really suited for detail work
After they have been wrapped in tape, I’ll cut them out using either athletic safety scissors, or one of those Slice ceramic safety cutters for packages. I’ll cut the back of the form, going up the back of the legs, the spine then the back of the arms. I like to split it sections, like wrap the bottom half in tape, then cut them out, and do the same for the top…They really can’t move their legs very much and are prone to falling over if you aren’t careful or they don’t have something to lean on.
Peel the tape mold off the person.
I bought a plastic model head from amazon and wrap with stretch wrap/ tape
7.(optional) I like to string some of those LED strip lights… between 20-30ft for a 6ft model.
(optional)You can also fill the model with Bubble Wrap to help hold the shape.
Use more packing tape to to seal the seams and attache the head to the shoulders.
Whole process takes about 45 minutes to an hour for me now, but the first time was longer.
Max order quantity of three?! C’mon Meh. How am I supposed to return all of the stuff I buy elsewhere so I can continue buying stuff I don’t really need here.
Okay, I’m done. I’ll see myself out.
Every time i see one these “Paused Deals”, or “Sold out” before 11 am i wonder
Do the higher ups regret not buying more. “I had no idea “tape” was in right now”.
When they get more are they going to increase the price because “. Did you see how fast it sold out last time ?” 99$ battery generator ill take 2, 150$ ? thats a hard pass.
Alter their buying strategies “I wouldn’t have brought a shipping container of paper clips, but did you see tape sold out in 4 hours.”
Yes, with the caveat that often we bought all there were at this price
Not usually, except that sometimes we have to pay more to get more (see #1)
Yes, but with the hugely important part of adding “at this price” to the end of everything, because it’s not like you all would be excited to see paper clips at the same price they are at Office Depot
That said, I don’t mind an early sellout. It’s good for people to remember they should get here early if they don’t want to miss out on the best deals.
(I should remember that as well. I tried to get in on this at 4pm eastern and even though I was in within the first minute, they were already sold out.)

@werehatrack yes definitely a good deal (see my next post question though).
2.8 Mil is good, just like my bank account balance
@werehatrack 3" is standard for a tape gun. I don’t know what you would do with 2". Maybe for a small box
@Rstoker If 3" is standard for your area, that’s bloody strange. It’s like pulling teeth to find it around here.
@pmarin @werehatrack
