Ordered some the last two times these were on Meh. Fun stuff. Now I have extras for gifts.
Obviously, do not get it on fabrics. If you allow it to seep into the fibers you’ll never get it out, just like Silly Putty.
My family likes all the varieties but they spend the most time playing with the UV reactive one & the heat sensitive ones, but I like the transparent one best. It is TOTALLY transparent. Disruptions to the surface temporarily reduce transparency due to surface texture, but if you let it sit a while to settle and it’s as clear as water.
I’d buy more, but since I have 36 cans of it now I’d better hold off or my wife will doubt my sanity. Even more than she already does.
@mbimeh what exactly does “playing” with this actually involve? As interesting as it may be, I don’t picture anyone actually engaging with this product that much.
@katbyter@mbimeh children at heart. Im quite old but often feel as im a teenager. Shit I still ride around with loud music and wear my hats crooked. You only live once fuckit buy it, let it sit in the heat, cut it up and snort it. Is it edible? Much like meh way cheaper than Aaron’s putty. I was tempted to buy some the last time. Im gonna get a 12 pack just to really play with.
The texture of this substance is just weird. It’s not the type of thing most people run into very often, if ever. You can pull it slowly and stretch it, or pull suddenly and snap it. It seems to shear-thicken, like Oobleck, but it has much stronger surface tension so it doesn’t turn into a liquidy mess when just sitting in your hand, unlike Oobleck.
It’s squishier than Silly Putty but not as liquidy as Slime (from 70s and 80s).
My wife has MS, which means her immune system is attacking her nervous system, so she uses it to knead in her hands as she watches TV to help strengthen them and slow down the loss of their use. It seems to be helping so far but its still early; time will tell. My daughter uses it as “stress putty” to knead when she’s tense. Seems to work there too.
But as for me, I’m just simple minded & easily amused. I sit there & play with it & see how it acts when I think of different things to do with it, like fold it over to make an air bubble to pop. Or see how temperature or other variables affect it’s properties. I don’t monkey with it every day, but it’s nice to have as an occasional distraction.
I imagine I’ll get tired of it eventually, but I’ll have gotten my money’s worth out of it by then.
Oh also, each one comes sealed in a baggie inside the tin. Once it’s out of the bags though, each tin will nicely fit two packages of putty. So my family members have each grabbed two tins of the same type & combined them. It seems like a more satisfying amount to play with when doubled up.
Then I take the tins and use then to make fire starting kits to go in emergency bags that I sometimes give to friends and family. I’ve paid as much just for empty tins like this, without the putty. This Meh deal really is a good price.
I imagine this stuff will dry out over time, but the cans seal pretty tight so I suspect these will last quite a while as long as you keep it clean and fully close the tin when not in use.
@katbyter@mbimeh I’ve never had this brand but have a few cans of the Crazy Aaron’s type. It’s good to keep at your desk for virtual meetings. Something to do while management is droning on about job cuts and other unimportant stuff. At least that’s what I did at my last job.
Having got my hands on this stuff, buy Crazy Aaron’s Thinking Putty instead.
Though I guess it really depends on what you desire. If you desire cheap, get this. If you desire putty, get Aaron’s.
Let me explain. No, there is too much, let me sum up.
Quantity: Though the tin is the same size, you get about half as much putty as Aaron’s.
Quality: Thinking Putty is in a different league. The colors are more vivid, the texture is less sticky and more satisfying. This stuff is kinda “ick”.
There’s also a great deal of difference in texture & firmness in the various types of Aaron’s, and that’s a sort category on their site. They list attributes like: Lustrous, Sculptable, Tearable, Firm, Soft, Memory Effect, Bounceable, etc.
I don’t know about this stuff, but I’ve had some of my Thinking Putty for several years, and it does not dry out.
I think my favorites are the magnetic (magnet included, but any magnet will do); thermal reactive “Hyper Color” (tear it in half, and get one lump warm, then twist the warm and cool noodles together); and the iridescent multi-color “Super Illusion” like Super Scarab & Super Lava - the colors never blend, and they vary with the light, so I’m guessing it’s tiny particles that do the magic.
The clear and marblized ones tend to remain quite sticky, but the heat sensitive and glow-in-the-dark ones are hardly sticky at all, which makes them more fun/relaxing to play with.
So why were mehrathon orders of this stuff cancelled when it seems like you didn’t have any inventory problems at all (just going by the times you’ve subsequently had this as a deal)?
@sammydog01 it was erased from my order history so couldn’t really tell for sure. Not going to use that coupon on this though lol, ill never have children, thank god
Tried to buy this during a recent Meh-rathon and weeks later was told there was inventory issues. Tried to buy tonight with the code given and it seems invalid.
WTH, PC Richards and son is national??? Out of every relative my dad had to get mad at, he picked them??? PC Richard’s wife is my grandmothers sister. My dad worked for them when he was young. When the son took over he got rid of everyone but his kids and their spouses. 1st cousins didn’t count. My dad never talked to him again. My aunt took me to their house once. It was a huge house (at least to me) They had a built in swimming pool!!! They only lived about 20 miles away. I do laugh at the friends and family discount. We always paid full price! My dad could read the code to see how much of a markup there was and if it was fair.
@smilingjack I hope this is copypasta, but they are not a national chain. NYC area only. I can only assume they are the ones selling this stuff for the highest price.
Therapy putty has to be stored properly to keep out dust, but it doesn’t dry out, it doesn’t stick to stuff, and it doesn’t randomly fragment during use. It’s basically Silly Putty with selectable stiffness.
I bought some Kitty Putty here, thinking it would be about the same. But it seems to constantly generate annoying little snotballs that are impossible to get off of some surfaces.
Is that typical of toy putties? Should I just stick with proper therapy putty? Because, yunno, I think glitter would be really therapeutic for my RSI.

I’ve witnessed enough putty in the 90’s.
Taste is mediocre at best. Pass.

@blaineg
I want that gold putty!
@blaineg @sammydog01 hmm. I have gold foil… I wonder how well it would incorporate into clear putty.
Gold leaf, rather.
@RiotDemon It might vanish without a trace, the stuff is immensely thin.
meh… needs more garlic
“Each tin is 1.8oz and you get 12 tins, so 20.4oz of total putty” math says either each tin is 1.7 or you are getting 21.6oz

I don’t care but my neighbor hoped you’d have more of the don’t ask don’t tell hammocks.
@andrewj I am so mad that I missed the hammocks. I have a $200 budget to buy the exact same hecking product.
I got my hopes up on putty once…

@eonfifty I am taking away my like. The other giphy was much better.
@yakkoTDI
I think it was the Matt LeBlanc one, but I can’t seem to find it again.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I bought this last time and my kids love it! Decent price and it comes in a giftable retail package which is nice
Can someone just take the hit and buy this down to IRK-level quantity?

Meh…I still have 4 cans out of my 12 that I haven’t opened yet from the last time I bought these.

Put. Put. Putty.
Hey-I paid $ 19 for those last time. Where is my $ 3 credit?
@Felton10 I used it to buy tacos.
So why were mehrathon orders of this stuff cancelled when it seems like you didn’t have any inventory problems at all (just going by the times you’ve subsequently had this as a deal)?
@andrd The mehrathon putty was different. So take your coupon and pick up this!
@sammydog01 it was erased from my order history so couldn’t really tell for sure. Not going to use that coupon on this though lol, ill never have children, thank god
@sammydog01 also, it’s the same brand of putty. just a different sized container. so probably the same source
@andrd It was in plastic tubs and cost $4. Maybe the same manufacturer, I don’t know, but I haven’t seen plastic tubs for sale at the sister sites.
@mediocrebot /buy

Help please?
@ChadP not sure who to tag, I also emailed support.
Maybe @RiotDemon too?
@ecanada I’m asking.
@ecanada I just responded to your email.
@ChadP @RiotDemon
Thank you!!! Turns out user error/drunken buying is to blame!
I’ll still be purchasing. Thanks again!
@OnionSoup wears socks with sandals.
Isn’t it silly (putty) to sell this so soon after the previous sale?
Oh, Glennnnn!
How does this compare to the ‘real’ stuff from A-A-Ron?
