10-24-17 Coulrophobia
7Clowns!

I’m not afraid of clowns, but I know a lot of people are.
By definition, an irrational fear of clowns is known as coulrophobia, with the prefix “coulro” coming from the ancient Greek word for “one who goes on stilts.”
I get a kick out of people being afraid of clowns. I guess I’m just twisted.
Killer Klowns From Outer Space
This movie is just so silly, I don’t see how people can be afraid of these guys.

Who wants cotton candy?

Pretty much everyone knows about IT. It’s one of my favorite Stephen King books. It was a creepy book, for sure. I enjoyed Tim Curry’s performance in the tv miniseries, but the new movie was definitely creepier.
Last year we had the phenomenon of the creepy clown sightings. There was these prank clowns as well. I’d be afraid of being attacked if I tried to do these pranks.
Do clowns freak you out?
Tonight’s musical selection:
Disarmonia Mundi
Last night we had Soilwork with the lead singer Björn “Speed” Strid. He did the vocals for a two and a half of Disarmonia Mundi’s albums, which are of course my favorite. I think I might like them a little better than Soilwork. It feels like Soilwork, but different. Those Italians have it figured out.
Celestial Furnace
Resurrection Code
Quicksand Symmetry
Perdition Haze
The entire Isolation Game album
The entire Fragments of D-Generation album
The entire Mind Tricks album (which has a clown as the cover art)

I was thinking of booking the AHS clown for my kid’s next birthday party.

@mfladd whoops. Was going to mention that… I’m in the middle of that season and unfortunately the person I’m watching it with, won’t be available for a few more weeks to finish.
The town it’s set in… I’ve been there several times. I think someone on meh actually lives there.
Once I’m done with the season, I’d look up more info about it, I just don’t want to spoil the season for myself.
I’m sure it’s going to be a great party as long as your kid isn’t a spoiled brat like the one in the show.
@RiotDemon Well after the Haunted House incident I thought it might be a nice surprise for him. I will have a change of clothes on the ready
When I was a kid, maybe 5 or 6 years old, I convinced the babysitter that my parents said it was ok for me to watch Poltergeist on HBO. I’m not sure if I was really convincing or just had a shitty babysitter. Maybe both.
The clown scene totally freaked me out (like it would for most any 5 year old).
Shortly after, my grandparents came back from vacation and they brought me back a gift. A clown doll. A creepy little thing that looked something like this:
It came from some special store in Florida that I can’t recall but I remember the excitement around their return from vacation and delivering me the gift. My parents hung it in my bedroom on the wall across from my bed. I spent every night for years as a child:
My 6-year-old son recently heard this story and thought it was hilarious. He drew me a picture at school recently to test my coulrophobia.
@shawn this story brought me so much joy.
I never really liked clowns much.
I also don’t know how someone would make ‘being clown’ a career choice.
Insane Clown Posse
Damn! Italian metal and clowns clowns clowns!
It just warms the cockles of… well, wherever my cockles are.
Here’s another Swedish guitar player doing what Swedish guitar players do.
Yngwie Malmsteen - Arpeggios from Hell
@2many2no Any time I see/hear of him, I think of this: https://www.google.com/amp/s/entertainment.theonion.com/yngwie-malmsteen-officially-changes-middle-name-to-fuck-1819586873/amp
There is no such thing as Coulrophobia- because, there is no such thing as an irrational fear of clowns. https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00431-017-2896-x and https://thoughtcatalog.com/ethan-ryan/2011/03/why-clowns-are-scary/ and https://listverse.com/2017/02/10/10-psychological-reasons-why-people-are-afraid-of-clowns/ and http://www.smosh.com/smosh-pit/articles/irrational-fears-are-actually-pretty-rational
Myself, I’m not exactly afraid as much as-say- creeped-out by them.
We went to see the new “IT” and it was also not scary, but very creepy.
I agreed w/ my M-I-L, who thought that the original [which had been playing a lot on cable in the weeks before we went to see it] was much scarier because of the less visible, more insidious threats.
My feelings exactly!
I’ve hated clowns for as long as I can remember. I actually do think it’s because of the Killer Klowns movie. I probably shouldn’t have been watching it when I was 5…
