10-17-17 Costumes
8As an adult, do you still dress up for Halloween? Do you do it just to give out candy or do you wear costumes to parties? At the party I went to recently, there was only a few people that dressed up.
If you are going to dress up this year, do you already have your costume or are you a slacker?
Tonight’s musical selection is Metallica.
As a child, my mom exposed me to a lot of different music. Jethro Tull and Led Zeppelin are just a few that I knew my mom had records of. Of course she also listened to Madonna, Michael Jackson, and whatever else was popular in the 80s.
When cassettes were still a thing, I remember that I owned a Prince album… I basically listened to whatever was around. Eventually someone loaned my brother, Metallica’s black album. This was my first real toe dip into metal. I loved that album so much. It spiraled from there. I definitely enjoy their older albums better. Master of Puppets is probably my favorite. As a teenager, whenever I’d go play billiards with the family, I’d always play For Whom The Bell Tolls on the jukebox. I saw them when I was 15. Great show.

Whoa! Bringing out the big guns tonight!
Got to see them in 2004 (doesn’t seem that long ago) with Godsmack. It was a great show with lots of pyro, but too many rules at the venue. No moshing! WTF?
Here’s a band from Slovakia.
Galadriel - Evilution
@2many2no I don’t mind the no moshing rule. I know I’m in the minority on that though, lol
I just hate when the mosh pit is way far away from me and then all of a sudden I’m in it. I’ve broken too many things and I’m not interested.
No dress up and my street is quiet. Several years back, I picked up 10 pounds of candy; I could have handed out a pound each and still have leftovers.
@narfcake
Tell ya what, buy chocolate and then send it to me.
@mflassy If I bought chocolate, it wouldn’t even make it inside my house.
@narfcake
I know California has strange rules regarding concealed weapons, but seriously, you should do something if you’re buying things which don’t make it into your house even though they should.
@narfcake
That came out a bit more extreme than I intended.
But seriously, look for ways to ensure stuff you buy makes it into your house.
Unless you order online. Then make sure nobody is stealing boxes.
@narfcake I think they mean they would eat it all before they got home.
@narfcake same here. This is why I go to a friend’s house. He gets a lot of kids. Last year was kinda slow, so I’m worried that this year is going to be slow as well. Still way more kids than my house though. I might get two groups of a total of 5-7, if anyone.
We don’t do halloween anyway but in 20 yrs we’ve never had 1 person come to our door because we live so remote.
@lseeber I’d dress up then.
If I were attending a Halloween party I’d wear a costume, but I don’t wear one around the house. Back when we got trick or treaters here I’d put on a comfortable costume for opening the door. Coming up with a costume is no effort, I have a shrunk full of them from my days of medieval larping and costuming for sci fi cons. I’m going to a Cajun themed birthday party Saturday so I’m going to wear one of my New Orleans voodoo themed t-shirts, my Bourbon Street hat, and some Mardi gras beads. I’m making bread pudding with rum sauce and jambalaya.
@moondrake sounds yum!
For weekend Halloweens I still do something to hand out candy in costume, not that we get all that many kids any more. Otherwise no; I’m rarely home before the official trick or treat time ends.
This year I used Halloween as an excuse to buy the overpriced bear jacket from workaholics as a ‘costume’
@LordSalem no idea what that is. Let’s see:

Ooh, looks fun!
I’m doing a Bob Ross thing. I don’t think it’ll look remotely convincing but hopefully the props will help to salvage things.
@Krydon Sweeeet! Going old school PBS.
@Krydon fun! I did that a few years back
@mfladd I’d go Mr. Rogers but people would probably look at me funny if I brought 100 puppets with me and talked to them all night.
@moonhat Did you do anything specific with it? I was thinking about carrying around a painter’s palette and a paint brush all night. Maybe I’ll tape a small canvas on myself with some happy little trees.
The other thought I had was going all Flava Flav and wearing the palette/brush on a chain around my neck.
@Krydon sounds fun.
@Krydon yes I carried a paint palette too (and had blobbed some paint colors in it a couple days before to dry) and paintbrush, and wore a light blue button down and of course wig. I can’t remember what else… the canvas is a good idea!
I usually dress up in something scary to give out candy. Since we usually get around 100-120 trick-or-treaters, I think its worth it. Most kids enjoy it, but occasionally I get one that refuses to come up to the door. Usually in that case I can send the treats by way of a sibling or parent, but on rare occasions they don’t even want any part of that.
@DrWorm my favorite one year was my hubby dressed in all black (hood over face, black gloves, full body robe, kind of Death but not really) then he sat in a chair about 2 feet in the door and we put the bowl right in front of him (door cleared and kids didnt feel they were “coming in” - even back in 90s we figured that would be too creepy).
I’d open door (dressed as witch) and tell them take the candy.
Little kids he’d stay still (so they wouldn’t be scarred for life) but if they
looked over 12 he’d either slowly lift an arm, or stand up suddenly. One girl ran out to the street and wouldn’t come back even when her friends showed her it was okay they got their candy.
@DrWorm I usually dress as a grim reaper and my friend dresses as a clown. I stand at the bottom of the driveway, and he stands at the top. Sometimes people don’t want to walk by me, so I’ll eventually move aside… Then they have the clown to deal with.
I usually scare teenagers and adults. I don’t know why they’re so afraid of death.
they are the ones that make me laugh. I don’t like to see children cry.
Some of you already know who I dress up as for Halloween
I’m trying to find this mask. Scary isn’t even close.
@OldCatLady
Just having a comb-over mullett would be awesome!
Scares me thinking about it.
@OldCatLady They’d make Mick Jagger?
@OldCatLady I was thinking more of Don Imus on a bad hair day.
@mfladd I missed this show, my daughter went.
Lots of fun, but that shit doesn’t wash out.
@2many2no and anyone else that is following along.
No post for 10-18-17. Sorry about that. I haven’t even been able to reply to this thread yet. Been a long day. Goodnight.
@RiotDemon

@RiotDemon Good night, hope everything is copacetic.
I’ll leave a band here tonight for later.
From Brazil.
Sepultura - Slave New World
In high school I fell asleep listening to Master of Puppets and Ride the Lightning to fall asleep nearly every night.
No dressing up for me, although I’d love to. Gotta work.
The skull mask and robes will be mine this year, the inflatable will be my husband’s and this is my yard at the moment.
Also we celebrate mischief night with friends and neighbors to create this look.
@callow nice! I like.
