10-10-17 Fog Machines
6Spent my evening helping a friend make and test some fog machine chillers. We are hoping that Halloween won’t be so windy. Even though the chiller worked pretty well to make the fog creep along the ground, the wind kept whipping through and dispersing the fog. I believe he has 8 or 9 fog machines, so we will hopefully get the right placement figured out before Halloween.
I know there’s at least one person that has experience with fog machines here. Anyone else have any ideas of what to do about wind? We are making the vortex style chillers. We have two runs of flex tubing with holes in it for the graveyard and thought about doing a straight run of just pvc piping with holes along the side of the house. Don’t know if all the other machines should just use the chiller and let the fog flow wherever, or if we should use more piping to direct it more evenly. I forgot to test the garbage bag method to see if that helps at all.
No photos yet. Hopefully something closer to Halloween.
Tonight’s musical selection is:
Sybreed
I’m just going to link some albums because that’s how I tend to listen to these. They are great music for when I’m cleaning.

Using HDF juice used to help when I was trying to fog an outdoor dance floor at an event. Chillers and HDF tended to creep the ground better. It still whips and dissipates in the wind, but as long as you keep pumping the juice it will definitely hug the ground a bit.
@ruouttaurmind thanks. Already have the hdf juice. It’s hot and windy here in Florida… The fog’s enemy.
I’m hoping with so many machines running, we’ll be able to get a fair amount. I can only hope we get a cool front and calm winds on Halloween. (It’s been years since that’s happened)
@RiotDemon BTW, I’ve tried dry ice in the chillers. Didn’t seem to make much difference except there was no melting ice to deal with. Maybe it lasts a bit longer, but not worth the extra expense I think. A little rock salt on the ice seems to provide about the best effect from a DIY chiller.
Never heard of these guys before, but I like it.
Getting weird stares at work so I guess I need to listen more when I can turn it up.
Going back to Japan tonight for something only the Japanese could invent – kawaii metal かわいい
I know it’s odd, but you just can’t look away.

@hollycrisson They were at the Isleta in Albuquerque with Korn and Stone Sour this summer. I seriously regret not being able to be there.
That Robot Restaurant looks like a blast.
@2many2no I’m glad I shared something that you haven’t heard of.
Unfortunately I found them after they broke up already.
I saw this a while back while researching ultrasonic water vaporizers : in case anyones interested in fog thats not that gross smelling stuff
We used dry ice in heated water. Its not good for a long run though.
