Soap and water are best when it comes to washing up.

That’s why, when you get on the highway for hour five of a long road trip and some soda fizzes out of the bottle you bought at the rest stop just a minute ago onto your thumb, you should immediately get back off the highway, find a bathroom with running water, and wash your hands thoroughly.

Or, if you go out to the screened-in back porch with a beer and a book for a relaxing evening of reading and imbibing, and you have to wipe a little accumulated dust off the seat, you definitely should go right back inside and wash your hands in the nearest sink.

Or, if your kid drips a little bit of melted ice cream on your deck on a hot summer night, you should tell them to put the cone in the freezer, get a bucket full of some hot soapy water, and really scrub the affected area, even if it’s only about the size of a nickel.

Okay, we’re obviously being facetious here. Point is, while hot water and soap really are the best, it’s good to have some alternatives for minor messes that are made when soapy water isn’t right on had.
