A Humongous Hummus Sale
Hummus is the perfect microcosm of what many people experience along their journey of culinary snobbery:
They buy it. They like it. Then they decide, Hey, I should try and make it! And when they look up a recipe, it’s, like, hey, rad! This stuff’s actually pretty easy to make! So they turn up their nose to store-bought and make their own for a while. Until, finally, one day, all they want is a damn snack, and they don’t want open a can and drain chickpeas and get out the food processor and peel garlic and whatnot to get it. So they go back to store-bought knowing, sure, they could whip up their own, but sometimes shortcuts make life easier.
That’s the reason to buy hummus pre-made: not because you can’t make it but because you don’t always want to.
Now, here’s what you need to know about this hummus. It’s got a best-by of New Year’s Eve, 12/31/23. Depending on your hummus-eating habits, this might sound challenging. On the other hand, you might be thinking, Only 12 hummus tubs in 2 and a half months? I better go in for 2 or 3. (And, we’d be silly not to mention that best-by dates are not expiration dates, just “peak flavor” dates.)
What’s more: Mezete uses a “unique aseptic manufacturing process.” What does that mean? We’re not entirely sure, but the big takeaways, according to a video on the Amazon page, seem to be:
-
It maybe allows them to put in more tahini than other hummus brands; and…
-
It’s shelf-stable.
In other words, if you’re looking for a hummus you crack open on hour 7 of a long road trip, and you don’t want to deal with a cooler bag and some ice packs, this stuff would be a great option. Also great for camping and any number of other fridge-less situations.
So, that’s the story. Like hummus? Then choose your flavors and buy it. Don’t like hummus? Then we’ll see you tomorrow.
