Lookin' Good!

You know what I love? Diner coffee. Let me be clear: a lot of it is very very bad. I’m talking crazy bad, like “I didn’t know it was possible to make coffee this bad” bad. But diner coffee is an experience more than it’s a beverage. It’s a chance to drink 3-12 cups of coffee without ever seeing the bottom of your mug (while consuming roughly 3,000 calories worth of eggs, bread, and potatoes as you do so). Thus, I enjoy diner coffee no matter what, but if the coffee is remotely okay (or even pretty good), that makes the experience magical.

Still, just because some diner might have better coffee than other diners, that doesn’t mean it’s great coffee. It just means it’s good, for diner coffee, and it needs to be described as such. Because context matters.

I try our best to employ this principle here at Meh, too.

Yes, I want you to buy stuff from us, but I also want you to know what you’re in for. A lot of what we sell is good, for the price. Or fun, for the price. Or, in the case of today’s bluetooth speaker/alarm clock radio, really cool-looking…

Wait…

Is this really happening?

Could it be… just really cool-looking?

Is it possible that no context is required here? That I can speak of its attractiveness without adding, “You know, for something less than $20”? Can it actually be that we’re selling a product that I see and think, “You know, I wouldn’t be embarrassed to have that on my bedside table. As a matter of fact, I think it would look great there!”?

OMG! It’s a miracle! No hedging required!

At least, not in terms of how it looks.

In terms of how it works? Uhh… probably fine…

…for the price.
