Good, Clean Fun: a Meh-rathon

Ms. Theroux thought she must be losing her mind. Had she not helped her client, Mr. Pempernill, set up his various artificial wreaths when she’d arrived? And yet, how could she explain that one of the wreath bags remained full?
Unzipping it, she received her answer. It contained the body of Mr. Pempernill’s yappy dachshund, Clyde.
“So the letters weren’t idle threats,” said Mr. Pempernill.
When Ms. Theroux turned, she saw him standing in the doorway, his eyes glassed over with oncoming tears.
“Letters?” she said.
“Come to my study, and I’ll show you,” Mr. Pempernill said, barely keeping it together.
