Short and Simple
Finding clothes that are comfortable and respectable can be tough.
On the far end of the comfort spectrum, you have pajama pants. And don’t get us wrong. We love pajama pants. About 60% of the write-ups you read here on Meh are written while wearing pajama pants (and that number jumps to nearly 95% in the winter).
But here’s the thing: pajama pants are like wifi. They have a range. In the home, they’re very functional. Down to the washer and dryer in the basement of your building, or out to the end of the driveway with the trash and recycling? It’s getting a little iffy, but should be mostly fine. Beyond that, though, they just don’t work.
Why is that, you ask? Honestly, we’re not entirely sure. Maybe it’s something about the boxy, shapeless cut. Maybe it’s the boldness of the patterns. Or maybe it’s a cascade of associations: you see a pair of pajama pants in public and you think about pajamas, which makes you think about sleep, which makes you think about beds, which are sometimes occupied in the nude, for sleep or otherwise. Vis-a-vis, seeing someone in pajama pants is like seeing someone naked. You have to look away.
And yet, you don’t always want to go too far in the stylish direction either. After all, walking the dog around the block is not like walking the runway. And going to the grocery store for a few dinner essentials shouldn’t be like attending the Met Gala.
All you need is something comfortable and not totally crazy-looking with a few basic utilitarian features.
These are all of that. They’re made of tech fleece, which is just soft enough to be cozy, but hefty enough not to feel like overlarge boxers. Plus, they’re shorts, which is great for this time of year, because wow do sweatpants really start living up to their name once the temperature gets above 80 degrees. As for utilitarian features, they’ve got two easy access pockets on the sides and one flat seam long zippered pocket in the back, which means you don’t have to worry about your phone that costs a bazillion dollars to replace falling out and smashing on the pavement of the gas station parking lot.
So, you know what? We take it back. It’s actually not all that tough to find clothes that are comfortable and respectable. You just buy these shorts.
