16-Pack: Funny Farm Goat Cheddar Mac & Cheese

Our Take

  • Made with goat cheese, but doesn’t taste super goat-cheese-forward
  • ‘Deluxe’ versions come with a mixed cheese packet so you can enjoy great flavor and texture with no butter or milk required
  • Best-by dates for the non-deluxe flavors range from 7/24/24 (gluten-free and white cheddar jalapeño) to 9/28/24 (cheddar fun shapes)
  • Deluxe options say they’re best by 6/22/24, but that’s not right, per this letter; it should be 12/22/24
  • Can they make a margarita: No, but maybe you could incorporate some of the powder into a salt rim and… oh, sorry, we just threw up

Part Of A Com-bleat Dinner

Ah! Boxed mac & cheese! Except: Fancy! Although: not too fancy. Because: it still comes in a box.

At any rate, this is possibly the least straightforward-sounding version of an otherwise very straightforward product, so we’re just going to go point by point here and answer the questions you very likely have.

Question 1: Can we just get the inevitable best-by-date discussion out of the way?

We sure can!

Here are the facts: the standard mac options have best-by dates ranging from 7/24/24 (gluten-free and white cheddar jalapeño) to 9/28/24 (cheddar fun shapes). The deluxe versions, meanwhile, have a printed best-by date of 6/22/24, but this is incorrect. The boxes were mislabeled. Their actual best-by dates are 6 months after that, per this official letter from the company that makes this stuff.

(But let’s be honest, even if that June best-by date were correct, you’d probably still eat this stuff.)

Question 2: So, goat cheese? Really?

Yes, really. This is made with goat cheese. As in, cheese made with goat milk. But, just to be clear, despite this, it tastes more like normal cheese than like goat cheese. Or, as the brand itself says: “All of the wonderful benefits of goat milk, with none of the ‘goat-y’ flavor.”

This is important to know because, while classic goat cheese is delicious, it’s also a bit of a palate overwhelmer. No matter how little goat cheese you add to a dish, it usually ends up becoming ‘goat cheese & friends.’

This is not that. It’s going to taste like rich creamy mac & cheese, not noodles and tangy crumbles.

That all makes sense, right? Good.

Question 3: Does this mean it’s lactose-free?

Nope! Because goat milk itself isn’t entirely lactose-free. Still, if lactose gives you the tummy troubles, this stuff might go down a bit easier. Again, from the brand itself:

“While NOT a lactose-free option, our cheese is a2 protein based, making it easier to digest.”

Sounds promising!

Question 4: WTF does ‘deluxe’ mean?

Basically, these versions include a mixed cheese packet that’ll give you the consistency you so desperately want from mac & cheese but without the need to add milk or butter.

To put it differently: the zhuzh-up is coming from inside the box.

Question 5: Okay, but how fancy is this stuff really?

Again, we need to reiterate: any meal that can be made wholly from a box is not super fancy. But, in the context of boxed mac? This stuff is very luxurious. Like, luxurious enough that, on Amazon, you’d have to pay anywhere between $50 and $94 for as much as we’re selling here.

Our price, meanwhile, is $16 ($1/ea) for the basic and $24 ($1.50/ea) for the deluxe.

So go ahead, get some goat mac. You know you want to try it.
